Actually, I can see how that could happen, as I've had encounters with "invisible" vehicles in the past. Here you have a black car, at night, crosswise (? Why wasn't that reason to block that lane?) in the road (also dark coloured), surrounded by bright, flashing lights and 'viewed' from a significant height. Perfect setup for what happened.

Those damned "public safety" vehicles with their blinding blinkers often make the scene they're working more hazardous, not less. Same goes for those night work sites.

My theory is that both the semi driver and the car he pushed were rubber-necking, the semi driver didn't notice the car in front had slowed down to rubberneck, and ended up hitting/draggin him. And yeah, those epileptic-seizure-inducing LED 'safety' lights that blind you from 5 miles away don't help either.

I'm simultaneously pleased and dismayed that I wasn't the first to say anything about the BMW's fabulous seat covers. Nothing says "taste & class" quite like a car full of cowprint.

Well it's a Holden Commodore, not a BMW, so it's got "taste and class" written all over it already, even without the seat covers!

That was classic. But I agree with SirFire, those "safety" lights probably can induce a seizure. I do plenty of night driving, and I have to avert my eyes when I come across an accident or someone getting pulled over so I'm not blinded. To go from having your eyes adjusted to the dark conditions to intense bright blinky lights can lead to a perilous situation.

I can handle the peril.

I could see, pun intended, how this could happen, too.

On this very night, ten years ago, along this very stretch of road in a dense fog just like this. I saw the worst accident I ever seen. There was this sound, like a garbage truck dropped off the Empire State Building... And when they pulled the driver's body from the twisted, burning wreck. It looked like this...

I've been to many traffic crashes as a volunteer firefighter. It's amazing how clueless other motorists are. They are either wrapped up in staring at the original crash, or are so intent on not being delayed or further inconvenienced that they are completely oblivious to anything else occurring on the road.

Absolutely right! It often seems that the flood lights are intentionally aimed into the eyes of passing drivers.

Oh man, I love the Australian cops screaming "are you fair dinkum mate?". It's right up there with the arrest (in Australia) of a suspect they had momentarily disoriented by throwing a beer car at his head
