I'm still worried about the carcinogen commonly called "The Sun"

Fried foods have acrylamide, a neurotoxin
Beans have cyanide
blah blah blah ...

Well, shiat. There goes lunch.

Can I still have my Lego fruit snacks, at least?

That sucks.
For lunch today I was planning on having a yogurt sandwich washed down with my favorite drink of beer and soy sauce.

wait.. wait.. THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Does this mean I get to laugh at all the idiots taken in by the marketing of yogurt as the new miracle food?

Whoa, I guess I'd better cut back on the saki-and-soy shots...

Not funny. A guy I know died breathing that stuff in.

Do East Asians have significantly higher cancer rate than the rest of the world? If not, I'll continue eating my sushi soaked with soy sauce and teriyaki beef.

what i want to know is how many people used to die of cancer before we knew about it? Pretty soon you'll get cancer and die from worrying about getting cancer. Oh noes! Worrying causes cancer?! Quick.... everyone.... uhh..... spontaneously implode?

Really? I enjoy Dihydrogen Monoxide sports - no not that kind, the other kind. I guess then the DIMO designation doesn't work.

PSA- I understand that there are some decent dihydrogen monoxide filters out there. However they are somewhat costly and need to be replaced every couple of months.

If this is true, how come Japanese people live so long?

They have soy sauce on everything.

Particularly some cancers. Japanese men essentially don't get prostate cancer.

Over the years, I've been developing an immunity to dihydrogen monoxide. Now, I can swim around in the stuff and not have a problem.

It's in yoghurt too!

2008-03-17 11:41:49 AM
Yeah. Alcohol, part of human history since we first walked upright (and then staggered around swaggering with our beef filled coconuts), which has been consumed by so many people living so freakin' long, suddenly "might cause cancer".

That's it. I officially declare Western civilization as dying of boredom. Christ people, get a day job.

Stomach cancer, yes. Significantly higher.

You can have my soy sauce when you pry it from my cold, dead, cancer-ravaged hands.

The only thing that's changed in this world is our awareness thanks to things that go "BING" and John Q. Public's gullibility to believe that something that has been a part of everyday life is now deadly. Today soy, tomorrow the plastic used in keyboards. Edward R. Murrow had it right when he said: "Just because your voice reaches halfway around the world doesn't mean you are wiser than when it reached only to the end of the bar."
Sliante everyone!

I recently found out that pickling causes the formation of carcinogens. WTF? I'm not giving up on pickles, pepperoncinis, or kimchi so I guess I'lll just have to deal with the slight risk. Yawn.

2008-03-17 11:46:37 AM
No mention of the dose needed to get cancer from it, of course.

Rapmaster2000: I recently found out that pickling causes the formation of carcinogens. WTF? I'm not giving up on pickles, pepperoncinis, or kimchi so I guess I'lll just have to deal with the slight risk. Yawn.

I did IT at the National Institutes of Health for a while. There's an oral cancer that occurs in the populations of Taiwan and southern China that is inherited, but is triggered only by consumption of a particular pickled fish product. You get the cancer in your 30s, but only if you ate the pickled fish as a toddler.

Cancer is complicated...

FTFA: AUSTRALIANS should try to limit their exposure to a "probably" cancer-causing chemical found in many common foods including soy sauce, the food regulator has urged.

What?!? No story on the dangers of the massive amount of green food dye consumed on St. Patrick's Day? Clearly the media is in the hands of big Irish.

Another story that boils down to: Everything in moderation, and you'll likely be fine.

Through my extensive research I have concluded that white laboratory mice are the cause of cancer.

2008-03-17 11:53:07 AM
Let me add this to the list of potentially carcinogenic things that I am constantly exposed to and don't mind, so I can completely alter my lifestyle to avoid this carcinogen due to this new and completely realistic and impeccable research.

Still working on avoiding all the other stuff, such as the Sun, barbecued food, cigarettes, smog, industrial emissions, cosmic background radiation, and cell phones.

Delay: Japanese men essentially don't get prostate cancer.

Given this finding and the Japanese adult manga/anime industry, well, draw your own conclusions...

The Japanese do get higher incidence of stomach cancer, though. Ten times as high as the incidence in the USA.
