It's a good idea. Before children were regularly screened for visions problems farsightedness was routinely being mistaken for mental retardation. Amazing how many learning disabilities disappear once a kid is given glasses and can actually see the books and assignments you place in front of him.

Yes, there are plenty of us who follow the the adventures of The Velour Fog.

Also, is it a problem that I read the headline and didn't notice it was spelled wrong until I came in here?

Headline reminds me of those "ooh, ahh" chain e-mails that show how you can read a paragraph full of scrambled (but complete) words almost as fluidly as a correct paragraph.

/Felt stupid when I finally noticed the misspellings.
//Not sure how to spell "misspellings."

I can read that only slightly more slowly than I read normal typing.
I often end up reading a page a few times just to make sure I didn't screw it up.

I'm definitely checking out that link. Husband has dyslexia but worked through it early. Sister showed a few brief flickers but got through without extra help. Now I'm wondering about my 4 year old -- is her letter confusion normal? Thanks.

thestr1ker: Apparently, this is what a person with dyslexia sees.

That is awesome!
I never thought anyone would be able to demonstrate that!
Thats far more exagerated than what I see. A little attention to detail and thought fixes it most of the time.
Its not just swapping around letters, they kinda jump all around. Makes for some interesting billboards when driving down the road.
some how a sign that says "Complete Home packages, turn left" gets an extra word thrown in. it kinda ends up looking like "Country", without the "o"....or the "try"

Students affected by learning disabilities may encounter difficulties with some of the following activities, among others:

* spelling
X reading aloud; stuttering
* mathematical calculations
X comprehension of large passages of text
X effective time management or organization
* rote memorization
X concentration and focus

Why do I get the feeling that this thread has, very stealthfully, turned into the Dr. Phil show.

/Why are the doors to the studio locked from the outside?

Everyone has some amount of dyslexia imho, it's just something you have to practice hard to work around. When I get tired, I often find myself swapping letters and even words, but it wouldn't have done one bit of good to label me dyslexic and put me in "special ed" classes. You can't tell kids it's ok to fail and then expect them to work hard to succeed.
