So he wasn't a Muslim?
So what? He's worm food because he whored himself out to the terrorist creeps. Maybe there should be a PSA to the whack-job pseudo-Islamic terrorists out there with images from this scene. Or maybe a t-shirt:
I kidnapped a theater, and all I got was dead (and most of the dead people were killed by their rescuers).
2002-10-28 12:10:24 AM
Who cares about the Chechen terrorist? The big story here is the nerve gas used to sedate the hostage takers. Fark has been ignoring this story all day. Why?

Anyway, I think Russia did right by using gas to sedate the terrorists. If they hadn't, everyone would have died. There were 10-20 women suicide bombers with their fingers on the trigger. The only way to stop them all before any of them pull the trigger is with sleeping gas.

In addition, the hostage casualties are not suprising. As one article pointed out, hoity toity 60 and 70 yr olds watching a theater production are much more susceptible to the effects of gas than fit and ready 20-something terrorists. If any less gas was used, one of the suicide bombers could have pulled the trigger and the whole building would come down.

But what is inexcusible is the Russian government's refusal to tell the emergency room doctors what gas was used. The doctors had no ability to effectively treat the patients because they had no idea what was happening to them. Does Russia fear embarrassment by revealing the gas used? Do they worry that the next group of terrorists will be more effective if they know what type of gas to look out for? What ever concerns they may have had about their own dignity or possibility of future weakness, these are all certainly outweighed by the very real threat to people's lives happening at this moment, right now.

Any chemistry majors in here know if there are any less toxic sleeping gases the Russians could have used?
2002-10-28 01:14:12 AM
yes, the war on terror has nothing to do with anything. all religions are great. enjoy your monday!
2002-10-28 01:14:17 AM
OOOOOooooooooohhhhhhhhh! That makes the whole thing a little Fun-KAY!!!
2002-10-28 01:16:07 AM
I'm no chemist, but I'd suspect that if they used something less potent they ran the risk of the terrorists "rebel hostage-takers" noticing their buddies nodding off and figuring out what was happening.
2002-10-28 01:18:19 AM
Fox news less a legitimate news source, more a mainstream NewsMax

Another useless slanted story. I wouldn't mind if they would point out that it was a political piece.
2002-10-28 01:18:43 AM
I don't think that we should bias what we post by putting quotes on the rebel hostage-takers. I f we do, we run the risk of being hippocrits. Americans were rebelsat one time in their history...and they even had to get France help to get our collective butt out of the sling at the time.
2002-10-28 01:20:13 AM
Russian destruction of entire towns in Chechnya less warfare more crimes against humanity..but who really cares..we have Muslims to focus on..
2002-10-28 01:20:39 AM
I'm with Farkwicket Yes what they used was probably harsh, but consider the alternative.
All dead, or a fraction dead.
The outcome sucks either way, it just sucks less when a good lot of the hostages get out alive.
2002-10-28 01:20:50 AM
Man, I heve a terrible time with my "I, we, you, them" thingy. Maybe its an offshoot symptom of reading "Fondly Fahrenheit."
2002-10-28 01:21:00 AM
Taking over a theater and killing hostages is a terrorist act. So is killing Chechen civilians.
2002-10-28 01:22:06 AM
Well, FesterLDS, this being America, you're certainly welcome to say and think whatever you will.

(Cue "At least until Ashcroft and his fascist Thought Police take that right away" comment.)

2002-10-28 01:23:11 AM
Tarvuz rest assured, the plights of the chechens has been raised throughout the world due to this. Also, the means in which these plights have been raised most likely outweigh any public sympathy.
Terrorism does nothing but align everyone else against you.
2002-10-28 01:24:10 AM
so that is why much of the world is against U.S....ummmm aggression.
2002-10-28 01:24:45 AM
Thank you Sweater Girl.
2002-10-28 01:25:05 AM

Pot smoke.

And when the terrorists are all stonned, exchange some food(munchies) for hostages.
2002-10-28 01:25:19 AM
Farkwicket(Voice ala Homstarruner) Yeah, yeah. Youw pwobably wight!
But I'm taking a philisophy class, so I think twice before I label...not that this thing is directed to you, but to everybody as a whole in the discussion of this type of sutuation.
2002-10-28 01:25:28 AM
Sweater Girl..educate yourself and the thousands of civilian deaths and raping and destruction by the Russians and maybe you will understand why people are driven to desperate measures..they have no other choice...
2002-10-28 01:25:59 AM
Tarvuz - You're in Ballard? Same here.
2002-10-28 01:26:18 AM
Any chemistry majors in here know if there are any less toxic sleeping gases the Russians could have used?

That's a job for biochemists. Real chemists scorn them. Real chemists make the stuff, and then the biochemists go and play with their lab rats and draw diagrams involving blocks and triangles, rather than molecules.

It doesn't surprise me that hostages died in the rescue. Russia has always seemed to put the Rodina before the individual Russian - plenty more where they came from.
(WWI wooden rifles, Stalin's purges, the use of labourers as commodities and resources under the communists, the Kursk, and now this). Anyone have examples from prior to, last century?
2002-10-28 01:26:48 AM
Perhaps. I don't know. But if the Chechens feel they did some good with this.. the really should think again. If nothing else, it made the russian troops they hate so much heros for getting the innocent civilians out. Most of them, anyway.
2002-10-28 01:27:21 AM
Anyway, back to the flame war - Even if they have no other choice, that doesn't make killing civilians right.
2002-10-28 01:28:45 AM
I think this sleeping gas thing all goes back to the Russian thought pattern:
You have to break a couple eggs to make a cake"
2002-10-28 01:32:45 AM
What do they do? What do you do when your families and people are being bombed and slaughtered? Do you sit back and not fight back or only shoot at the tanks and the jets overhead?
2002-10-28 01:35:27 AM
What do you mean ONLY shoot at the anks and planes? That takes bug red hairy balls to do! Dang! I'm not shooting at no tank!
2002-10-28 01:35:43 AM
I just saw a commercial where a kid runs through the house and his mom catches him and he then spits a live goldfish out into a glass of

Also, I am pleased to anounce my friend is the sexy blond dude in the new taco bell may also see him in "We Were Soldiers," as the phone operator guy that is always around Gibson..
2002-10-28 01:37:37 AM
anyhow..I think that the Russians did the best thing possible under the circumstances. I hope that most of those in the hospital make it out okay.

When the majority of civilians are violent towards a big government, what do you expect? See: Israeli conflict
2002-10-28 01:44:10 AM
I agree with ya on at least that much,'s a crappy outcome, but it's not as bad as it could've been.

Condolences to the families who lost loved ones.
2002-10-28 01:49:40 AM
Big Al- which citizens are violent towards a big government? Oh Chechnya...tell me all about it buddy of big government and the good ol boys. Oh, where did you get the "majority" part of your post?

Comparing Palestinians and Chechens is not that good of an idea. Actually..Palestinians are getting shafted even more..but will side with the big boys cause you go with the crowd.
2002-10-28 01:53:51 AM
Something is amiss: Tarvus is posting and nobody is fighting with him.

Big Al:

Yep, the Russian military will return fire when attacked by Chechen civilians. That means occupation is a bad idea, not an inevitable conflict.
2002-10-28 02:04:18 AM
Fifth Column..I want you to know that everytime my username is ended with an S..well it hurts.
2002-10-28 02:08:59 AM
Tarvuz What the Chechens did could incite Russia to bomb them some more.

Solving violence with violence doesn't work well.
2002-10-28 02:10:25 AM
Well either way he's a dead log of shiat now, I hope they toss is body into a pen full of hungry pigs.

Yay! Reinforcements. <*more Nerfbattery*>

Tavuz So everytime someone ends your username in S, another angel gets its wings? Wait a minute, i think I got that wrong somewhere.
2002-10-28 02:18:27 AM
Bullshiat. Not a Islamic-fundamentalist, nor is he a gun for hire. If we was all about money, he wouldn't have put himself in a no-win-no-spend-situation. Just another non-goal-oriented rebel with a stupid plan. I guess he did do a good job of getting a boatload of followers though, I'll give him that.
2002-10-28 02:19:57 AM
I am retarded..goodnight.
2002-10-28 02:22:27 AM
I wonder which president had the biggest penis?

I wonder which first lady liked it in the pooper?

I wonder how many presidents have had homosexual relationships?

I wonder where Chechnya is on the map?
2002-10-28 02:25:06 AM
I am retarded..goodnight.

I don't think any of us expected him to say that.

I wonder where Chechnya is on the map?

Near the yellow bit between the blue splotches.
2002-10-28 02:28:47 AM
Tarvuz -

Jackie O

Not sure, how many Democratic president have we had? All of them, plus the Federalists, John Quincy Adams, Nixon, and Bush Sr.

Somewhere in South America between China and Australia.
2002-10-28 02:29:15 AM
He doesn't know the true meaning of Jihad... sad...

"Something is amiss: Tarvus is posting and nobody is fighting with him."

well, i swore that i'd never engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
2002-10-28 02:33:52 AM
I show up and Tarvus leaves. That's interesting.
2002-10-28 02:36:43 AM
Damon_ryde, come on not all Democratic presidents had homosexual relationships. I mean Bill Clinton wouldn't of had one. And I'm sure that there are a bunch of interns willing to testify to that effect.
2002-10-28 02:41:04 AM
DocBubonic - Oh, well I took "homosexual relationships" to mean that they experimented at least once, not that they were necessarily all-the-way gay. C'mon, you KNOW Clinton of all people had to try it at least once, along with all the drugs he didn't inhale.
