2002-10-25 11:34:30 AM
Oh my god I feel old. I remember Mr Wizard. He was so much better than that Bill Nye scmuck.
2002-10-25 11:37:16 AM
I remember watching Mr. Wizard... But his hair was not silver then... My mom hated him, because I made a huge mess in the kitchen every time I tried to do one of his experiments. Made a baking powder bomb once. It was supposed to blow up a balloon but I used too much BP and the Balloon popped, the ceiling needed to be mopped after that one....
2002-10-25 11:38:46 AM
bill nye himself kinda sucks, but i love the rat. ANd the psychochick assistant is kinda cute.
2002-10-25 11:38:55 AM
Ok, they didn't question the kid, they didn't dust the coffee pot for fingerprints - ohhh, I know! They're going to let a sliver-haired Dick VanDyke come in and take over the investigation. Should have it wrapped up in about 58 minutes!!

As an aside, I remember Mr. Wizard, too. He was the shiat. Taught me how to make a soap boat...that was neato.
2002-10-25 11:40:09 AM
He goes to school less than 5 miles from me... but not to my school becuase the boundaries are farked
2002-10-25 11:41:50 AM
bill bye had some kickin' tunes tho...
2002-10-25 11:42:25 AM

2002-10-25 11:42:25 AM
of course that says bill nye. you're just seeing it wrong.
2002-10-25 11:43:57 AM
Oh the kids these days! The pranks they pull!
2002-10-25 11:44:06 AM
The kid *should* have put in his/her used bong water... That would have learned that teacher. =p

(Note: I do not support the assault of teachers by asshats)
2002-10-25 11:44:21 AM
he probably didn't think the asshat teacher was going to make hot water and not coffee. She's probably one of those prissy teachers that drinks herbal tea.
2002-10-25 11:46:10 AM
Any of you guys ever add a little exlax to your teachers drink in elementary school?....

....uh...me neither.
2002-10-25 11:46:35 AM
When it comes to the evils of Kool-Aid, I admit nothing.

Re: Mr. Wizard... anyone ever watch CSI and think it's like "Mr. Wizard visits the morgue"? Mr. Wizard was cool. I remember him teaching a kid how to make styrofoam, and the kid said, "That's wicked cool!"
2002-10-25 11:46:50 AM
They are just jumping to conclusions that the water was bad, get out the mat...

Maybe it was some nice sunset water, pure as the driven snow:

TPerrin, tell the person with that pepto bottle that you have to push the cap down and _then_ turn it to get the bottle open.

They're going to be doing that forever the way they're going.
2002-10-25 11:48:40 AM

Yeah but that snow's been driven over by a tractor trailer.
2002-10-25 11:49:47 AM
In 6th grade this girl in my class kept having candy stolen from her desk so she put some ex-lax® in there. Some severe abdominal cramping exposed the perp rather nicely but the girl got suspended.
2002-10-25 11:51:49 AM

Typical. Schools love to suspend kids who fight back.
2002-10-25 11:54:39 AM
i knew a kid in HS who laced a P.E. teacher's drink w/ LSD....or something...she later died, but not from something else...kid felt bad.

kinda like Two-Face.
2002-10-25 11:57:46 AM
I can't believe the girl got suspended! That's so farking ridiculous. I'm so angry reading that that I'm biting my cheeks and clenching my fists. Must relax...think happy thoughts...why are people so stupid???? yeah, relaxing just went out the window.

As a former chemistry major, I have a pretty good idea what the kid did. There is a chemical called Phenolphthalein whish is used as an acid- base indicator. It turns from clear to pink depending on the pH of the substance it is in. The pH of tap water varies- it is usually a little on the acidic or basic side- If the kid put this stuff in the coffee maker, This would very likely happen. Also, it's a chemical very likely to be found in the water testing kit they issued the students. Now, after this long explanation... does anyone know what Phenolphthalein was used for commrcially? it used to be the active ingredient in ex-lax. Remember when ex-lax was pulled off the market for a while, along with a few other laxatives? it was because, after some, oh, 30 years of use, they discovered that Phenolphthalein could cause some people problems. Regardless, had the woman drank the coffee, the worst that would have happened is that she would have gotten the shiats.

Say what you will about Dane Surdoval, but you gotta admit he plays terrific defense at long pole.

Greek - I remember those experiments, trying to "neutralize" it by eye-dropping acid and alkaline in it, trying to get that "inbetween" shade. "Looks like it could do with one more" (drop) "Argh its gone pink again", etc.
2002-10-25 12:10:08 PM
in that second picture of Mr. Wizard posted by Shagadog, Mr. Wizard looks like a wife beater.
2002-10-25 12:16:31 PM
Big word Phenolphthalein correct little word whish haha just messin with ya Greek...
2002-10-25 12:19:20 PM
I have some test strips for my fish tanks the lable has Phenolphthalein written on it.
2002-10-25 12:19:37 PM
I agree with Greek on this one. Probably Phenolphthalein or another indicator like methyl red. In either case, I'm sure no harm would have befallen the teacher, and if the apparently stupid teacher knew her chemistry (which is SUPPOSED TO BE WHAT SHE'S TEACHING), she wouldn't have been concerned. Just add a little acid and the color would go away and the "TOXIC CHEMICAL" mystery would be solved.

Ahh, everyone hide, it's the typo police!!!!!

The first chick on Beakman's World was cute. The rest of them were ho hum.

The first chick was in one of the Brady Bunch movies; she played the lesbian who was interested in Marcia. Oh, if only they would've developed that a little more....

Well as long as he's not poisoning pigeons in the park.

"With each drop of strychnine my pulse is quickening.."

Nice Tom Lehrer reference.

You know, it seems to me that it's irrelevant WHAT the kid put in the water, since it's inexcusable that he put ANYTHING in the water in the first place.

What do you think, so it's ok, to make someone sick as long as they don't die? Jesus H Christ.

We have a charge in Canada of 'Adminstering a noxious substance', which usually means you get an additional charge when you drug a girl to rape her. That could work if there's a similar charge in PA. In any event, it's still assault.
