He said that when he saw that the curtains had been closed to prevent the light from entering, he realized that Hamas was trying to manipulate the media for political gain.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just get the AP to photograph the meetings and drop down the brightness in photoshop?

Next you'll be getting Ric Romero to cover the fact that some journalists like to make a name for themselves, so they'll cover controversial topics as news.

/Obviously, he doesn't choose to do so, however he'd like you to know that there are some people in his profession who do.
//He'll take the approach of studying whether closing curtains does, in fact, make a room darker.

The Jerusalem Post? I'm sure it will be a fair and balanced account of the plight of the Palestinians.

Maybe they were expecting the sun to be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood.

2008-01-24 6:47:49 PM
Couldn't they just reschedule the press conference for the evening? It's usually dark at night.

2008-01-24 6:51:51 PM
I suspect most Hamas politicians/terrorists (delete according to opinion) would keep their curtains closed as a matter of course.

Before this thread, like so many others before it, degenerates into wanton stupidity and the utterances of several TFamous morons who help to stir it up, allow me to posit this:

You're dealing with two sets of people who will murder each other continously until every last one of both groups is dead. They do it for a patch of arid, crappy desert infested with poisonous scorpions. Adding to the mix is the world's most calming influence, religion.

This is like two raging hobos mangling each other with sharpened versions of those plastic table-thingies from pizza boxes. Nothing, and I mean nothing, good will come of this.

Build a big wall around the whole area. Throw some steaks in occasionally. Shoot anyone who tries to leave. This is the best outcome you can hope for.

Or, you know, they could relocate everyone to Ethniklashistan like in that one Onion article.

Nobody comes out of this thing the "good guy". Now let's watch everyone try to be the good guy...

I'm more of a fan of simply glassing the whole region, but otherwise, THIS.

If Israel really wanted to "murder" Palestinians, it would have no problem slaughtering the entire population in short order. Israel has the means, but not the desire. The Palestinians are the reverse.

Hamas just needs to be glad it at least has the benefit of the Sun. Pretty soon Israel will just claim ownership over it. Afterall, the Sun has been central to Jewish life for thousands of year extending back to the story of Genesis.

Israel is on a short leash, otherwise they would have used the weapons we gave them to take over most of the region. Nobody over there has the technology to stand up to them one-on-one... or six-on-one, as the case may be. But, if Israel loses the support of the US, it'll be a lot more than six-on-one. So, they placate the giant behind them... simple as that.

"They had closed the curtains in the rooms to create the impression that Hamas leaders were also suffering as a result of the power stoppage," one journalist told The Jerusalem Post. "It was obvious that the whole thing was staged."

Well, if a JOURNALIST tells it to the JERUSALEM POST, it's got to be true, right?

Another journalist said he and his colleagues were told to wait for a few minutes before entering the chamber of the Palestinian Legislative Council so that each legislator would have time to light his candle. He said that when he saw that the curtains had been closed to prevent the light from entering, he realized that Hamas was trying to manipulate the media for political gain.

Omigod those godless bastards! How farking DARE they attempt to fool the media into believing they have no electricity!

Israel would NEVER do that. They don't have time to mislead the media.... Too busy running over peace activists with bulldozers.

As one who has visited Israel and enjoyed playing in my grandparents citrus grove, it is not, by any means, a patch of arid, crappy desert infested with poisonous scorpions. Yes there are desert areas, but the Israelis have turned their country in to quite a fertile area.

And for what its worth, the Israeli's do not want to irradiate the Palestinians--see the original plan which the Israelis accepted.

All Palestine has left is the guilt trip to draw sympathy.

They just blew open the Egyptian border so they should probably just cross and stay there because there is no way Israel is moving, voluntary or involuntary.

Hah, yeah. Look at them there, what a bunch of suckers... left with nothing but the ability to make the world feel guilty about itself. Haha. They should have been born American.

They just blew open the Egyptian border so they should probably just cross and stay there because there is no way Israel is moving, voluntary or involuntary.

But yet, we're lead to believe by some folks that the Palestinians are the sole problem!

Peace activist? She doesn't look very peaceful.

Yeah, how dare she express her opinion about the abject suffering she's struggling to deal with on a daily basis as she sees what life is really like in the territories. Do you know anything about her life? Have you read the letters she wrote to her family, detailing the suffering she witnessed with her own eyes and heart?

Anyone who doesn't get angry at the conditions people are living in there, at the abject injustice of their situation, I posit that there's something wrong with that person far more than anything was wrong with the late Miss Corrie.

Heh. The deep, dark secret of the middle-east: Egyptians don't want them in their country, either. And, for that matter, neither do the Syrians, Jordanians, Lebanese, etc. They make a great hammer to smash the Israelis with in the court of public opinion, but, when push comes to shove, NO ONE wants those uneducated, fanatical savages in their own backyard...
