I've been noticing that when someone says something negative about Obama they are instantly a Hillary supporter, or it's because he's black. It's an odd place to be and for the media they can't really rake him over the coals like they normally do, so it's coming off as a huge media ass-kiss.

It's not that he's the best thing since sliced bread.. Is that when you have a choice of death, pestilence, war, famine, or cake a person will tend to choose "cake".

Even if the cake tastes like cardboard
Even if the cake is a lie...
It's still the best alternative.

I sure would like to see Obama run a Number 6 on the Republicans.

The Republicans are peeing their pants over Obama. I always thought he was so-so, but if conservatives hate him THAT much, maybe I should put my support behind him.

I love conversations like this:

Democrat: I like Obama.

Republican: Meh. He doesn't have much experience.

D: WHY DO YOU HATE OBAMA?!?!!????

R: I don't hate him; I just want to vote for someone with more experience.

D: You Republicans are so afraid of Obama; he must be a great candidate?

R: Why do you think I'm afraid of him? I'm just not sure he's the best candidate for the job.

D: Racist asshole!

I'm not even a Republican and I've been in the same argument. I'm sorry he might have all these wonderful qualities but I can't get over the fact that he smirks all the farking time like Bush does. Look at me I'm go great, bask in my greatness. *smirk*

GAH it drives me nuts. That and the fact he has no real experience. I hate when Senators do not fulfill their obligation to the state that elected them. You ran for Senator and excepted a 6 year job, IMHO, and your should feel an obligation to complete that term. I've felt that way about every senator that has ran for office in the middle of their term.

Yeah, that about sums it up for this republican. But he's looking like the most attractive option right now, whatever the party.

I didn't know I was supposed to hate him... guess I didn't get the memo.

Gwendolyn: Wow. Way to prove the submitter's point in the Boobies. Good jorb!

I know that you are not an Obama fan. So I am not going to try proselytizing to you about him. But, I think the author is one of the many liberals who are entrenched in the partisan ideas of Republicans vs Democrats, Liberals vs Conservatives... and he is not sure what to make of Obama's anti-partisan style. My parents are in the same boat, they are not sure what to make of Obama... they are so used to hating the Republicans that they don't know how to deal with a Presidential candidate who openly reaches out to Republican supporters.

Oh and I should add I don't think it any more wierd than voting for someone because he talks to the same imaginary friend in the sky as you do. Or voting people solely because you're afraid the other candidate is going to take your guns away. I think not having a pompous jackass in the White House is equally important.

Dude, Gwendolyn doesn't like Obama for a plethora of reasons, and chief among them isn't Obama smirking. Wasn't there a whole thread a little while ago where she gave a list of things she wanted in a candidate and insisted they only fit Kucinich or Paul or someone?

That would actually be an advantage of an Obama presidency. You think the media would withhold criticism for four years? "President Obama, I have to tell you, I voted for you and thought you were an inspiring candidate, but this is just plain stupid" would remove the race issue from a lot of discussions.

2008-01-08 1:35:26 PM
actually, in the last thread Gwendolyn listed all the attributes she wanted in a candidate, it was pointed out that Obama has all of them except for extensive experience, at which point she started talking about his smirk.

So the smirk does appear to be pretty important to her.

/some would call it a smile.

And so starts the inevitable Obama backlash...

It's really one of the unfortunate certainties about his campaign, he's managed to become so immensely popular so fast and there's so little truly negative press around him that a backlash is nearly inevitable, I just hope he can keep his exposure to a reserved but necessary level and weather the storm if and when it does hit.

I gave you specific examples of Republicans following a pundits lead and you retort with sites (no matter how loony) where you can find people discussing who they feel is the best candidate?
