(Some Guy)   New tell-all book about Tom Cruise says Scientology has taken over his life completely. To prove the author wrong, Cruise is suing for $100 million, which certainly ought to discourage anyone from reading it   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line

I'm glad to know there is a tell-all book about Tom Cruise, I just put it on my must-read list, right below "Fun With Wattle and Daub" and "The Autobiography of Bishop Ussher's Great-grand Nephew, Irving."

/Obviously I am more into English literature.

It is utterly fascinating to watch the rise of Scientology. I mean Hubbard admitted that the way to make money was to start a religion, and people still bought the shiat during his life. There have to be studies on the phenomena. We get to see a real life religion spring up before our eyes. It's scary that people buy the shiat. It just shows that secular people need spirituality and/or meaning. It's something the New Atheists often overlook.

ANGRY ASSHOLE: How much longer before Scientology goes Jonestown?

-Why would they go that route when there's so much more money to be made bilking the weak-minded with worthless tests and high-priced courses? Those new properties in all over the world aren't going to pay for themselves, you know.

And don't forget the Sea Org. Why commit suicide when you have a faux Navy to play with?

I think Cruise needs Scientology.
I think he's majorly bi-polar and they have enough handlers to control him and keep it under wraps

That and they keep him happy with a steady stream of boy-toys and also keep that quiet.

It also keeps him from turning on them.

Whoa whoa whoa there. Yeah, Hubbard was a scam artist and a pathetic sack of shiat. He was delusional, crazy, and manipulative enough to get people behind him by using logical fallacies and New Age-style nonsense to justify the insanity. But I don't see how this means we need more spirituality. If anything, this means we should stop being such gigantic pussies about death and get over ourselves.

There is no secret to life. There is no meaning except what we make. We are in control of our lives. There is no God, Devil, Heaven, Hell, or anything along those lines. And if you find that horrifying, then you don't know the first bloody thing about the life you have been living, and need to realize the possibilities this presents to yourself.

This is what we all need to admit to ourselves. Otherwise? The fear of death is going to jerk you around all the farking time and will make you accept anything. Break that fear, realize what it is, realize that you will die, and your life will become a bit more fulfilling than you realize.

I'm concerned that Farkers are forgetting how to correctly type $cientology.

Anyway, Minority Report and The Last Samurai are pretty good flicks. My only concern is with Tom's middle tooth. Once I'd realized he only had one front tooth set right there in the middle I couldn't stop looking at it. Well, not as much as I couldn't stop looking at Alizee's swirling ass, but the tooth bothers me. Add in Martin Sheen's short arm and James Doohan's missing fingers and Darryl Hannah's plastic finger and Rex Harrison's glass eye and I get pretty distracted.

While it certainly is not an imperative concern in my life, I am curious to the reality of Tom Cruise's status within Scientology, and why he has become so publicly entwined with this peculiar belief system.

Personally, if I was running this "religion," I certainly would not want all the negative publicity which Tom's close affiliation would warrant.

It just doesn't make sense.

/I use to like his movies, but I can't stomach them anymore/
//I wonder how much value he destroyed for Paramount's library
// He must be costing them tens of millions a year.

Matt Drudge has the link to a story in the Daily News.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_arti c le_id=506359&in_page_id=1773&ct=5

As seen in the article, author Morton claims some "fanatical" Scientologists believed Suri Cruise was actually the result of a sperm donation by Scientology's dead founder, L. Ron Hubbard.

Given that Hubbard died in 1986, this sounds like something out of the Weekly World News.

OK people are writing wacko stuff for profit, just like the wackos who publish about Planet-X in 2012. Sound like someone scammed morton

How long does the old jizzity-jizz last in the freezer? Call me crazy, but I've seen pictures of Hubbard and that kid totally looks like she could be his. Much more so than Tom's...

And I can't watch a movie with Cruise in it, either. He has totally, completely jumped the shark in my book.

That's textbook cult behavior right there.

Seriously. I have to wonder what is so fundamentally wrong with these people where fear of a magic man in the sky is the only thing keeping them decent. Can't you learn to be a functional, good, kind, polite, and moral human being without that? If not, why on Earth is that so difficult for you?

It actually made me perspire out of nervousness. I can't identify what, in particular, but it has to do with the fact that scientology is a business, whose trade is religious ideas. The preciousness that is often a quality that characterizes a religious belief, that is to say, that a religious belief differs from others, perhaps in its immediate priority, is in scientology, mixed with finance and explicit ideas of social status. How sickening. I wish I never learned about scientology. But since I did, I have come on Fark to basically just type my mind out. It feels great saying,
"fark scientology, and fark those who are so dim that they commit themselves to a shiat ass religion, where people shiat in their pants, dig it out, and put it in a blender. Or they put it in the microwave and let the smell waft about the house. It really is a business, and it really is terrifying. My husband's father's family is very connected with Scientology, though he isn't. His dad USED to be in it, along with one of his uncles. His uncle recently left and is now having all kinds of issues with them and can't even see two of his children anymore. His kids were literally told by Scientology to choose between it and their father, and two of them actually picked Scientology. So I'll probably never meet these two cousins, since they're not allowed to go to any family functions, not allowed to have contact with anyone who has contact with their father, etc.

There's a lot more I could say, but I really don't think I need to elaborate on the crazy I've been privy to just through the family inside stories.

Ugh. The families inside the stories speak I think as suitable representatives for all the people who have experiences like your husband's and their own. Very straightforward adherence, whether inadvertent or not, to the definition of "cult." What's worse, like we've said, is that it's a business; as such, it follows the competitive model of capitalistic business. Furthermore, being a business that encourages competition (work your way to the top! buy buy buy, !!), is there a proper limit? By proper limit, I mean this: Is there a point in which someone can just be a mere learner, a follower, eager to learn the ways of their religious leaders? Where they can passively participate in religious praise for the sake of itself and itself alone; not anything in line with progressing and advancing through "religious ranks" ? The answer is no.

/sad stuff, scientology.

You keep right on generalizing there. All religions are the same. Everyone who believes in God believes exactly the same thing. All spiritual people have exactly the same motivations. Everyone has a perfect right to their opinion except people who are stupid (=people who don't share your opinion).

Yep, blinkared ignorance, outright lies, bludgeoning opinions you disagree with will get your viewpoint a lot of traction. It must be such a burden to know everything, to have the superior intelligence to be able to wipe away thousands of years of history, cultural impulse and human psychology because you have all the answers.

Now please go over your atheist factiod cafeteria and supply me with some weird cherry-picked Bible quotes and some statistics about religious wars, because you understand what I believe better than I do, and you can shoot me right down with "the facts."

Your ignorance makes me tired. I will pray for you, and not just because it pisses you off to hear that.

No hate like evangelist atheist hate.
