owlywowly: a girl at the high school two towns over was shot when I was a boy to death by the bullet of a gun fired over a mile away from her.

I lost my best friend when I was ll years old (she was the same age as me). She was camping with her parents & after breakfast she was sitting at the picnic table next to the campsite, reading a book. Her mother was in the tent rolling up the sleeping bags & called out to my friend to put down her book & do the dishes. A few minutes later she found her daughter with her head lying on her book, dead. From the investigation, it was thought that an out of season hunter fired his rifle in the woods near the campsite & the bullet richocheted off a tree, hit my friend in the head, killing her instantly. They never found the person who killed her. We never knew if the person who killed her was even aware that they had taken a human life.
