It turns out that Kohn's mailing had frightened bill processors when it arrived on Oct. 8 at the Hicksville mailroom of KeySpan Corp., which handles the joint electric and natural-gas bills of LIPA and KeySpan.

2002-10-17 06:43:43 AM
They overreacted, so he gets the blame. And the legal bills. Poor guy.
2002-10-17 06:43:43 AM
These must be the same liver-lilies who'll eject you for booing at a sports event.

Good for him.

At least he knows someone is paying attention.

Beautiful! I should have done the same thing for Qwest when I was living in Minnesota. Only it would've said: QWEST SUCKS A HARD ONE!

does anyone else save up all the junk mail they get and send it off to the worst offender? just me then? oh well

last month i sent a lovely big brown envelope with 78 bits of shiny paper crap off to Capital One bank. best 27 pence i spent that month

i need to get a hobby. does posting on fark count?
2002-10-17 06:54:54 AM
The gauntlet is down - let's go and arrest anyone who posts anything in a large, brown envelope. Don't they know it might scare someone? They ought to be locked up for the rest of their natural lives.

Alternatively, one could tell those who reported this as a crime to maybe try rebooting their brains. It might just restore some of the sense they were born with.

for all those who where saying the innocent have nothing to fear --- eat this --- anthrax's ass, the article says he does this regularly so it's a good bet someone on the receiviiiing end knew there was no threat but decided to get him in trouble. assholes.

This guy's lawyer is a farking moron. A first amendment thing? A brown envelope? That's your defense? How about -- it's a freaking envelope! Starting getting all ACLU and your client is screwed. Plus telling the press that cops are playing hard ball -- how dumb is that? Now they look like wusses if they don't charge him, so they probably will charge him.

Advice to guy: get a new lawyer who will shut the fark up and not ruin your case so he can get some press attention.

Dorks. What a bunch of brainwashed pussies.

Typical mind-control tactics explained well by Michael Hoffman (Former AP reporter and journalist, expert on Occult/Masonry/etc, yet NOT a 'kook' like all the rest)
2002-10-17 07:02:35 AM
Just out of curiosity, why do monopolies like power companies and the postal service feel a need to advertise? Like we're going to take our business elsewhere?
I'll continue to use the USPS regardless of whether they spend tens of millions of dollars to sponsor a cycling team, because the law dictates that noone else can open my mailbox.
2002-10-17 07:03:50 AM
here's the email address for the Long Island Port Authority executive offices:

i say we all send them an email, "LIPA sucks"

2002-10-17 07:13:14 AM
I have often wondered exactly the same thing
2002-10-17 07:18:02 AM

I mail junkmail from company A to company B in company Bs prepaid envelope. I do the same with the junkmail from Companies B, C, D, etc.

I also enjoy mailing companies a broken-in-half AOL CD in their prepaid envelopes :)
2002-10-17 07:21:10 AM
I am absolutely speechless.

RubberBandit it is absolutely right. Terrorists definately haven't won here..! We always make big deals out of brown envelopes in this country.
2002-10-17 07:21:33 AM
anyone want some AOL Cds i hear some freaks over in the US collect em.

Hell im from Aus i got like 200 of the buggers
2002-10-17 07:22:14 AM
Keyspan, like most energy companies is a den of crooks running a racket. The only difference is their extortion is legal.

However, this guy should have thought of a better way to express his displeasure.
2002-10-17 07:24:14 AM
SchlingFo in the prepaid envelopes you say? good idea. i tend to address mine for the attention of the Managing Director or Marketing Dept. just goes to a clearing house otherwise
2002-10-17 07:29:57 AM

Yeah, I use their prepaid envelopes. Why waste my money when I can waste theirs :)

For the ballsy/stupid in here, try sending tarot cards of death.

I'm sure you'd get a very nice reaction :)
2002-10-17 07:32:51 AM
Did anyone else get the lipa banner on the site?
2002-10-17 07:33:55 AM
Its always fun to change the scanner codes on the bottom of the phone bill when you send it in so it has to be entered manually. In the olden days bills came as computer punch cards, my old man would get pissed and punch an extra hole or two. don't know if it had any effect.

welcome to the USA, land of the paranoid, the scared and the grassers.

god I'm glad I don't have to live in that farked-up country
2002-10-17 07:53:56 AM
That's a nice red x.
2002-10-17 07:55:29 AM
nickkoto, that always pissed me off, too. At least the USPS theoretically has some competition from UPS & FedEx, With electricity, there's only one place you can get it. Quit blowing all the money on useless PR, and we could all have cheaper juice.
2002-10-17 08:00:38 AM
There's a reason we don't get to choose in some markets. Deregulation and competition seems like a good idea until it gets put into practice.
2002-10-17 08:01:59 AM
This is scary.
2002-10-17 08:07:46 AM
Damn those SbB girls give me a special feeling in my tummy.
2002-10-17 08:12:24 AM
Nickkoto The USPS does have competition, they are called FedEx and UPS. I don't recall seeing an ad for first class mail, I usually see ads for express mail, etc, which is the same thing that UPS and FedEx provide.

In some places, there is competition for electricity. I can chose my generator and supplier, but the transmitter is always Mass Electric, because they own the lines that attach to my building. It doesn't really lower prices though. My electric bill is still way too high, although they just announced a rate cut.

"What he did presented a situation where people got very concerned, and I can't blame them," Cunningham said. "It came in in a different kind of package."

I got your different kinda package right here.

Kip Kohn: "What are you in for?"
Inmate: "Murder. How 'bout you?"
Kip Kohn: "Sending a big brown enveloppe."
Inmate: "You BASTARD!"

mind control... blah blah... brainwashed.. blah blah..terrorists won... blah blah... nazis... blah blah...
2002-10-17 08:34:23 AM
Why does a power monopoly have to advertise?

farking idiots.
2002-10-17 08:37:51 AM
Ahhh Long Island, most expensive utillities, two bedroom house goes for $300,000 and the worst traffic and roads on the face of the earth. And highest taxes to boot.
2002-10-17 08:37:53 AM
Just a thought here. Why not charge the person at LIPA with causing a public nuisance and all those things that for example, that guy got charged with when he thought he saw the sniper (reported here day or two ago).
If they're going to be complete idiots and call in a bomb-threat just cos they got an envelope that says they suck, they should be the one accused of wasting police resources, not the guy who didnt do anything wrong.
2002-10-17 08:38:54 AM
here's the email address for the Long Island Port Authority executive offices: i say we all send them an email, "LIPA sucks"

OK, I'm in. Mine told them to get new mail room employees.

"Your papers, please."
2002-10-17 08:45:54 AM
As far as I have ever heard you can send mail in ALMOST anything if you have the correct postage and it is not a health violation. Meaning you clould but your LIPA bill in an old boot and affix stamps and send it to them. Fark the Po-lice.
2002-10-17 08:47:59 AM
I think you are all taking the side of this moron without considering those who have to handle his crap.

What would you do, as a mail handler, if a big brown package arrives with "(your company) sucks" printed on the front, I'd probably freak out too.

I sure LIPA probably have a customer service department, who have probably by now starting ignoring this moron which is why he has turned to this attitude, if he has a credible grievance he needs to phone his lawyer and sue, if not he should shut the fark up.

His actions are not doing anything except putting the wind up mail and bill processors, it has absolutely no effect on the company. I hope he now understands that making someone elses life a misery isn't the way to go.
2002-10-17 08:50:22 AM

I'm guessing you've never been in Europe, so I'll let this one go.
