It would have been cooler if he'd built a secret passage in his canoe.

A+ Headline subby, would read again!

So sick of hearing about these people. THEY'RE FARKING SCAM ARTISTS!! Ohh and they made off with all of $50,000 in insurance money. How is this still news? It's boring.

2007-12-11 4:53:53 PM
Sooo he was in the closet this whole time?

2007-12-11 4:54:39 PM
Isn't this headline a repeat or was it just the headline I saw yesterday on CNN? Even CNN came up with the same thing.

Did he pull out his gun?

TFA: It's like something from [The Chronicles of] Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Yes, it's quite a lot like that. Especially in how they both involve a wardrobe. And also in no other way at all.

2007-12-11 4:55:52 PM
She said that she was "on eggshells" when visitors - including their grieving sons - came to visit, and her spouse reportedly slipped through a wardrobe into the passageway and escaped into his hideaway.

How could you do that to your family? OMFG.

Someone tell me what "mind bloggling" is. Is that like making mental notes?

Awesome headline. Verb and elide the fist noun for perfection.

"It's like something from [The Chronicles of] Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe . . . to think the bloke has been living just feet from his wife - it's mind-bloggling."

"Mind-bloggling"? What the hell? Does that mean you write up a little journal entry about it in your brain? Is it anything like "mind-bottling" from Blades of Glory?

It could have been worse, you know. I heard he's finally matched his meet. And that he's really licked his ass.

The first time I went to Aruba it was so nice there I thought about faking my own death and starting a new life in Aruba.

I got back home and that missing white girl was all over the news about a week or two later.

Weird.

Yes, he even came out of the closet. Or, was he forced out? Hmmmmm...

These people are interesting as hell. I think the most surprising thing isn't them faking his death, or them even having a secret passageway. It's the fact that these people have been married for so long and want to start over together.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. (and I never do that).

I direct rip from another publication

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/12/10/2114128.htm

I submitted the headline two days ago but unlike the subby I didn't have the balls to take credit for it myself.

This is stealing, plain and simple and Fark should be ashamed!

John Duffield, the new owner of No 3, told how he found the secret passageway on Thursday: "It's like something from [The Chronicles of] Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe . . . to think the bloke has been living just feet from his wife - it's mind-bloggling."

The Narnia wardrobe was a magical portal to a world of mythological creatures. This is just... a wardrobe with a hole cut in it.

Richard_M_Nixon: He was a Jew, she was a whore, and Swearengen holds all the cards.

Deadwood: Better analogy.

nrv0us: Is it just me or is this almost exactly the plot of Arrested Development Season 2?

Also better.

How secret was it? The way I hear it, many frankfurters had been down that corridor.

I don't know the bankruptcy laws in the UK but it seems like filing bankruptcy would be less painful than faking your death.

"Seaton Carew"

I've been there. It's full of inbred ex-coal-miners who sit around all day smoking unfiltered cigarettes in filthy pubs which let their whippets in but not their wives.

(The women had to sit in a special little room 'round the back).

If the UK had hemorrhoids, that's where they'd be.

I wonder what the sons think of these parents for putting them through this.

FTA: tens of thousands of pounds in debt.

Shoot, I'm tens of thousands of pounds (dollars) in debt, but this sort of shiat never crossed my mind. And I make pretty shiatty pay, all things considered.

Being debt-free isn't worth faking your own death. If your life is that shiatty that you don't think you're losing that much by cutting yourself off from your friends and family, then you might as well drop the 'faking' part and just kill yourself. What failures of life.

The sons probably did know that he was alive. The parents are just saying that the sons didn't know about it in order to protect them from prosecution. If the sons knew that he was alive and benefited in any way from his "death" they might be charged as accessories or something.

So what I want to know is did he never go outside of the house?

I am with you, no way did the greiving sons not know about this scam. I love that he got lonely for them in Panama. What a moron.
