New post counting may be off a bit

The red line marking the first new post in a thread may show up in the wrong place for a little bit. This should only happen to each user once per thread; once you go back in a second time (after more posts appear) it should then be in the right place. By later tonight, hopefully, it won't even happen the first time.

If you go back in and there aren't new posts yet, the line's still going to be in the wrong place.

Counterintuitively, this should only affect threads you've read today. Going back to a thread you haven't read since yesterday or earlier should give correct behavior.

Anyway, temporary situation and should be fixed by later tonight anyway. It's just taking a while to do a SELECT on a 54 million record table.

The red line was off for me for a while a few days ago. I assumed the data was lost when the database reset itself or something like that. Was it some sinister plot?

Like the new user tools since the profiles got revamped, but why don't you put prefs at the bottom? If most people are like me, they never change them.

The new post count is wrong in some threads I submitted which are no longer open for posting. I think the count is being displayed as the number of non-new comments rather than the number of new comments. For example, my profile shows thread 3181584 as (239) (+238). I followed that thread so I didn't miss 238 of 239 comments. I may have missed the last one. (I'll avoid loading it for a while, Mike, in case you want to check it out.) This could also be the same problem I mentioned above -- a few days ago Fark forgot my last visited information for some threads.

Yeah, looks like some backward math, I'll have a look.

Counters should be fixed in all non-archived threads now.
