It does prove that "deluded" and "evangelical" are synonymous, though.

It's ORU. Being smart is never a prerequisite there, and is in fact, probably a hindrance.

Awesome. You christians keep giving them the money, and they'll keep giving you the shaft.

Later, we can talk about how not all christians are like those.

It'll be fun, I'll bring s'mores.

what exactly is a "christian office and educational supply store". can i get staplers shaped like a crucifix there, or do they sell bibles especially designed for office use?

If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to.

Snark aside, It is possible that he wants to give it to the University and not the Roberts family, who hopefully are on the way out. He might feel for the kids trying to get an education and not simply want to bail out that bunch of crooked farks.

When my grandfather died, he was worth millions and left it all to his grandkids. Unfortunately, he made my grandmother executor of the estate. She had the discretion to disburse the funds as she saw fit, including donating it to charity in our names.

Several months later, I received a form letter from Oral Roberts thanking me for my donation of $250,000.

I wanted to strangle the b*tch.

Sex crimes, oh how I love those Bible beating sex crimes!

They should give the money back and divest all interests.

There isn't one iota of Christianity in any of this.

If people aren't deterred by the fact that the university was founded by a guy who dropped out of college after two years to become a faith healer, then nothing will deter them.

/think of what good that money could have done if it went to an actual charity.

2007-11-28 11:15:43 AM
what is it with that idiot family and rich people? i was so rootin for the Senior Oral Roberts to be called home and some dumb ass goes and donates the last bit at the last minute.

2007-11-28 11:16:54 AM
Why is it that people always fall all over themselves to give money to these con men? And they never learn. Every time one of these crooks is exposed, another one pops up to replace him.

I'm looking at you Joel Osteen.

Ha! Ha!........ Oral.

2007-11-28 11:17:08 AM
Here's the catch: "Green . . . is requesting at least two seats on the board of regents for his family members." So it's not really a donation, is it? It is more like he is buying his way into the school board so he can "manage" the university? And that's all fine and good, but don't try to paint ORU as a "real" university. And I use the term "university" very loosely. The concept of "evangelical" and "university" is an oxymoron. (How exactly do they teach biology and anthropology without all tests answers being "God"?)

So I'm back in my hotel room with Johnnie Coltrane and the love supreme. In the next room I hear some woman scream out
that her lover's turning off, turning on the television. And I can't tell the difference between ABC news, Hill Street Blues and a
preacher on the old time gospel hour, stealing money from the sick and the old. Well the God I believe in isn't short of cash,
mister!

FTA: Green said his family must approve the financial review before the $62 million is given and is requesting at least two seats on the board of regents for his family members.

So it's not as altruistic as it seems.

Yes, because if there is no Heaven, when he dies, he'll be all like "Hey, why isn't there an afterlife...." and then he'll um, well, see, he doesn't exist anymore, so maybe he'll....... post intelligent things on fark.

Isn't that the same school the old lady in "The Ladykillers" was always donating money to?

You might as well flush your money down the damn toilet.

Who's to say professers aren't using school funds for gay sex/meth trysts in local hotels?

2007-11-28 11:22:49 AM
Yep, I can't imagine where that $50 Million went..... oh, that's right on the ORU Board currently are Creflo Dollar, Benny Hinn and Kenneth Copeland, 3 of the richest god-hustlers on the planet.

BTW, this guy also owns Hobby Lobby, so his fortune isn't all from Christian book stores and office supplies.

Read tfa or worst_login_ever's post and you understand that this $70 mil donation is buying influence at bargain basement prices... i.e. if the university was not in desparate straits, the same donation would not garner the amount of influence the donor will likely gain. So, unless you think donating to universities is always stupid, or you think that donating to universities whose mission you don't endorse is stupid, I'd say that the headline is wrong. It's misleading anyway, because it's putting the horse after the cart. The Uni squandered the $50 mil, so now this guy rides to the rescue with $70 mil.

And, really, not as bad as it seems, either. I mean, a change of management can't possibly make the school any worse, so I'd say statistics are skewed to this improving the quality of the place. I hesitate to call it a university because I understand that their programs aren't, for the most part, accredited.

Because you didn't get the money, or because of who she gave it to?

I have a rich relative, and I'd be irate if she donated a bunch of money to that bunch in my name too. It wouldn't be because she didn't give it to me. It would be because she gave it to THAT lot. I'd rather see it go almost anywhere other than to a bunch of christians.

I recall reading about private jets to the carribean for their kids, among other things.

And yet not a single penny went to the 700 club. How odd.

No surprise to me, subby, I live across the street from a house owned by incredibly stupid rich people. They don't live there; their mansion is in a crappy school district, and they bought it so their kids could attend school in this district. They've been "lending" the house to a procession of their white-trash friends for years.

This is fine by me. Provided that they are not elderly, senile, and poor, I have absolutely zero problems with people getting bilked by religious scam artists. At least the money isn't going to far/extreme-right organizations that are capable of doing actual harm to the country.

My friend's wife worked at Richard Robert's house as a housecleaner about ten years ago. She says the wife is one of those shopaholics. She has closets filled to the brim with dresses and shoes that still have the price tags on them. And she continues to buy stuff that she has no room for.
And then I see on the news that she denied any wrongdoing when she was accused of spending university money for her own personal gain.
