This headline is so full of fail, I'm not sure where to start.

Executive Order 9066 was issued in 1942. The more you know...the less often you'll submit something so stupid.

I think subby is trying to say that FDR was no stranger to overreaction, not that Japanese internment immediately followed the "War of the Worlds" broadcast...

Paedophile_Deluxe: I think subby is trying to say that FDR was no stranger to overreaction, not that Japanese internment immediately followed the "War of the Worlds" broadcast...

well yeah, but he's making no distinction between the reactions to a radio broadcast and to a world war. that's where it's fail-y.

F*ck Bush!! At least FDR would've stood up to those pesky Martians!!!!!

What...?

He was...?

Well...

Okay... let's forget about all that "standing" nonsense I was spouting earlier. Deal?

Bush would have had Orson Welles arrested, strip searched, buttplugged and waterboarded, then executed for being a terrorist.

You think it's not possible? Just imagine if you did such a broadcast today.

//sigh

I could picture Bush going the radio and declaring martian law. prepping the military to attack iraq and afghnistan and cuba.

silly man

Radio isn't the only source of news now. It would take five seconds to figure out it was a hoax. In the early 30s people had one source of info at home at night until the paper arrived the next morning.

I don't think any mention of the president should really qualify an article for the politics tab.

I hate Chevy: It would take five seconds to figure out it was a hoax

and fifteen minutes for Drudge to take down his little "alert" whirley-thing...

What does the author think Bush would have done? I think he needs some medication.

Fair enough. Here's a properly redacted headline:

==

Wired: "Good thing 'War of the Worlds' aired when Roosevelt was president rather than Bush--no one did anything hysterical." Japanese internment camp survivors unavailable for comment. The preceding headline in no way implies that WWII started right after the WotW broadcast, nor that any given reaction to a misunderstood broadcast is equivalent to prosecuting a war. No animals were harmed in the creation of this headline. Void where prohibited. Reading this headline underwater could result in loss of breath and/or electrocution. May not be shipped to CA, MA, NY or HI. Do not autoclave.

Better?

The writer was implying that the Bush would have over reacted but not FDR when FDR DID IN FACT overreact. Proving once again that moonbats know nothing of history

i could get on board with that.

Actually, if I remember correctly, weren't there reports of people jumping out windows and traffic-jams of people trying to get out of cities?

This is what I was trying to say in my post. Stupid head cold.

Anyone catch Cold Case last night? Pretty cool. I like when they go back more than 20 years ago

There may have been some overreaction.

I feel sure I left something out:

Actually, there are camps currently being built out in the desert, and while they may originally house illegal immigrants or Islamic terrorists, there may arise a need to have them used for domestic unrest. Roosevelt knew this the same as Bush.

My grandmother knew it was just a show all along. Or so
she always said.

My wife's grandmother, OTOH, had all her kids bundled
into their car and got about 2 or 3 blocks away before
she heard the disclaimer at the middle hour.

MARTIAN law? Really? Did you really type that?

Nope:

Welles would have been fired after CBS went bankrupt from all the lawsuits.
