IS this going to be the next "will it blend" craze?

kruuth: IS this going to be the next "will it blend" craze?

I hope so. Slow-mo cameras are kickass. I don't even care that it's an ad, because it's just awesome.

Oh that's great! I love the gumball machine.

i love the ice sculpture one.

That's pretty awesome. The Lava Lamp one isn't even the best - I really like the Jello one.

I actually have wondered what would happen if you fired a golf ball through a lava lamp.

I would also like to see what would happen if someone made a potato cannon but used full cans of soda or canned food as projectiles instead of potatoes.

The jar of mayonnaise was the most intersting.

MissFeasance: Oh that's great! I love the gumball machine.

The gumball machine didn't really do anything for me. I have no idea why anyone would want to put a golfball through a gumball machine. It just doesn't make any sense. Most of the other ones seemed pretty logical.

Other than the ice sculpture, those were all painfully predictable.

Yeah, I agree.

Who in their life hasn't wanted to see a can of cranberry jelly hit by a golf ball? That just makes sense. The gumball machine, I mean, WTF were they thinking?

Sheesh.

Call me crazy, but I my favorite part of each video is hearing that guy say the name of whatever is about to be made awesome.

/Please don't call me crazy...

SilentStrider, the Ice Sculpture segment is my favorite.

The decapitated bunny was inexplicably satisfying.

Man, that was really cool.

Heh, super sweet!

some really great high speed still photography by Andy Davidhazy (pops)

He's like MacGyver for cameras - the man is a genius. I was lucky enough to take classes with him in college. :)

I'm [pretty sure this has been posted before, I remember seeing the bunny get decapitated.

I was thinking the same thing.

Agreed. These videos would be nowhere near as awesome if the guy introducing them didn't sound like Len Cella, creator of the Moron Movies.

when ads are that cool, i don't care that they're ads...

lava lamp!
jar of mayonnaise!
cranberry sauce!
FRESH cantaloupe!

@Starryeyes- thanks for the Davidhazy link! I went to his faculty page, that guy is a maniac! I would love to see how he shot some of those.

2007-11-04 5:43:08 PM
The mayonnaise one makes me think of Peter North for some reason.

You're welcome :) I could describe how they're done, but i think my hands would get tired from all the typing.

His class was great, I learned a lot from him, and cool tricks to do with cameras.

What I have learned today: somebody needs to make a full-length film of this sort of thing. In 3D. IMAX 3D. I would pay to watch it every weekend until my natural death.

I'd watch just to hear the guy say the name of what he's going to destroy.

/"Birthday cake."

Nice.
That is the absolute coolest thing to come from this link.

I can tell you that if you tape the end of a cardboard tube so the golf ball doesn't fall out and hit the golf ball with a rawhide mallet there will be a golf ball sized hole in the window on the other side of the room. You will also be laughing hysterically as the golf ball bounces across the roof outside of the window.

These ads don't seem to be working correctly. I don't feel any desire for golf balls, but I, and everyone I know, suddenly want super slow-motion cameras.

And that IMAX 3d thing.

2007-11-05 1:26:40 AM
All I want for Christmas is a high-speed camera like that. There is so much stuff I would do with it. Almost everything would look awesome under it.

I loved the Mayonasse and the Ice Sculpture, and I thought the guy saying the thing that was about to be destroyed was hillarious. "A bunny," made me LOL.
