(Guardian)   If you bet today is when someone would publicly blame Bush for the wildfires in California, you just won the office pool   (guardian.co.uk) divider line

Well we've had people blaming Al Queda so lets jump to the other end of the spectrum and see what those nutters are going on about.

Where in that article did anyone blame Bush?

I bet that today some whiny little pussy would get his panties in a twist trying to protect his Glorious Hero... I won.

Croooow!: Where in that article did anyone blame Bush?

Nowhere. The closest I could see to blaming Bush was the comment about the national guard being in Iraq.

I RTFA and didn't see where anyone blamed Bush for the fires.

California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer complained on Capitol Hill Tuesday that the ability of the state's National Guard to respond to disasters like the fires has been compromised because too much of its equipment and personnel are committed in Iraq.

Yep. Read that. She's not blaming him for the fires.

I toured Alcatraz this summer for the second time and was saddened to see how badly decayed it had become because of lack of funds from the government.

Since it's maintained by the National Park Service, like the forests around SoCal, I'm not surprised that the resources aren't there.

Whose fault? There's plenty of blame to go around.

Aren't bushes and trees and houses and cars all burning? Why isolate just the bushes? I don't get it....

2007-10-24 5:42:59 PM
Oh course the fires are not Bush's fault. Anyone that says they are is an idiot.

The blame for the fires clearly lies with Bill Clinton.

I see what you did there, subby. Read the headline on TFA people, it's a joke. J-O-K-E.

If a burning bush started the fire, then you are right. This fire is pretty biblical.

Wow, not only is the headline completely inconsistent with reality, it's also a repeat.

Boxer was straight-faced lying, however. Cali has all the national guard troops they need, plus extra, and are not lacking in supplies, according to those in charge of the situation. And from what I've seen on news interviews with people out there, despite the fact that they've lost their homes (some of them anyway), their stadium experience has been more like an extended vacation and carnival. Some even expressed having "fun" despite the tough situation.

The Kos Kids don't fail to deliver:

tony the American Mutt well he [ Arnold ] could donate all his Hummers (9+ / 0-)
They could tow many tons of water there, or he could use all the money he had saved from vetoing health care to have helped prevent these fires. Or he could do something except sit in his tent 'office' smoking his stoogies and promoting steroids.

But hey, that's just me, I still think he owes the Bay Area millions (personally, from his bank account) for his little game with the bridge (stopping construction cold because he thought it was "too fancy" so cost soared) so I may be a tad down on the non-acting movie 'star'.

Ah yeah, its like you have to be outraged 24/7 to "post" on "DailyKos". Why doesn't Mutt just admit that arnold's doing a good job?

Dude, seriously you should watch something besides Fox News.
Try reading some of the local online papers.

How do you not think the thousands of Calif national guardsmen and their equipment that are in Iraq couldn't help is beyond any rational logic I can imagine.

2007-10-24 11:03:22 PM
No need. National guard aren't fire fighters. And there is virtually no looting or need for crowd control. When the governor, mayors and other local officials do their jobs, there's not a need for the feds.

``They have an emergency situation and the last thing California needs right now is a trip from the president to take away assets,'' she said.

Man, does she realize how stupid that statement sounds?

The North County Times in Escondido hinted at some blame, but focused on the positive reaction by residents and emergency crews. "It's too early to tell whether the actions taken by the county and other government agencies in the three years since the last conflagration made a difference this time around," an editorial stated. "We'll leave that analysis for the days and weeks to come. What we can say without reservation is that the response to the fires by regular folk has, once again, been remarkable."

A North County Times story, however, cited examples of a lack of manpower for the fire resistance, using the same source as a Los Angeles Times story, Fire Chief Chip Prather, who told reporters that firefighters' lives were threatened because too few crews were on the ground.

The Los Angeles Times included a quote from the governor in a TV interview denying a poor aerial response: "Anyone that is complaining about the planes just wants to complain, because there's a bunch of nonsense. The fact is that we could have all the planes in the world here -- we have 90 aircraft here and six that we got especially from the federal government -- and they can't fly because of the wind situation
."

The second Union-Tribune editorial observed: "From rural Ramona to the heavily populated coastal zone, hundreds of thousands of residents fled their homes, most carrying just a few hastily packed valuables and many others with precious pets in tow. Remarkably, this broad exodus was carried out in orderly fashion, with tens of thousands of reverse 911 calls providing advance warning to residents and helping to keep the loss of life mercifully low."

Perhaps you should actually read the local news

The only thing they seem to needing lacking is firefighter manpower. Not national guard. Like I said, they have all the national guard they need.

jake3988: Man, does she realize how stupid that statement sounds?

Considering that's more or less the same thing the WH press secretary said about why Bush wasn't going to California at this time...I'd have to say that she's not the stupid one.
