Quality I possess something I'm fresh
When my voice goes through the rest
Of the microphone that I am holdin'
Copywritten lyrics so they can't be stolen
If they are Snap
Don't need the police to try to save them
Your voice will sink so please stay off my back
Or I will attack and you don't want that

Yeah, the Canadian system sucks... having only a few weeks between calling an election and the actual vote. It's too bad we don't have an American style where we can watch TV ads for 18 months before voting. At least we'd get to know the players a bit more, because it's only durring a campaign that you get to know the real players. You'd never be able to judge a politician on his record.

Judging by their voter turnout, even Canada doesn't care.

Nothing will change, except Harper will get an even smaller minority.

Hold on...

Harper's party doesn't have majority, so he will, on purpose, try and pass a "hot button" issue (probably being to keep sending troops) to force the Liberals to do one of two things : 1)Vote for the controversial issue or 2) Go in battle ill prepared (the Liberal party is a mess right now).

If the Liberal vote for it, they are screwed, as voter will associate Dion to Harper on the war issue, and if they vote against, they will be thrown in an election they can't win.

THIS is democracy people. No squabble about who is a woman or black, who is more left or right, or who is a true partiotist or not. Just good ol' democracy and politics in action.

Maybe Americans could learn from their so called retarded cousin up north...

Im actually looking forward to watching the speech in a couple of hours. The liberals are farked.

What will probably happen:

Conservatives = YAY
NDP = NAY
BQ = NAY
Liberals = symbolic NAY from thier party leaders with the rest not showing up to vote

Final Results = Conservatives get the go ahead to govern till 2009.

No need for the suit (IMHO). You are right. The presidential election process in the US is a REALLY long 2 years.

2007-10-16 5:36:33 PM
There isn't going to be an election, people. Stéphane Dion all but admitted today, albeit grudgingly, that the Liberals will vote to support the throne speech.

Unless Harper does something stupid, like introducing a motion to extend the mission in Afghanistan by five years, it's going to be another lame duck Parliament for a year. That suits me just fine. Parliament never does anything anyway.

Mix97: I think Harper wants this to go down. The Liberals have no shot! Stephane Dion is a douchebag!

I'm starting to think you're right. With the two recent provincial elections, you're gonna get some amount of voter fatigue. I don't think anyone wants an election right now - except for maybe the Conservatives. They're up in the polls, Dion is busy keeping his own caucus in line, and better yet, if they do it by putting something unsupportable in the throne speech, they can blame the other parties for dragging the country into an election.

What would be fun would be to come up with something wacky for Michaelle Jean to say to piss off the other parties enough to vote against.

Anything to have a chance to get that giant Douchbag Harper out of control. He scares the crap outa me, and is taking Canada down the same road the Bush administration is on. Anyone who can't see that that this a BAD THING needs to be kicked in the balls.

2007-10-16 5:42:27 PM
I'm guessing Harper will provoke an election now, while the liberals are still disorganized. if he can wrangle a majority, then he'll have 5 years of uncontested power. If he waits too long, the liberals might get their shiat together and that would be bad for the conservatives.

I wouldn't mind a majority gov't. They're getting paid they might as well try to accomplish something besides planning elections every other freaking year.

I was just in Sarnia (against my will), and it's pretty much parallel to the southern Oregon, so the weather's likely not too different than it is in a good part of the US.

I could totally get behind a Canadian-style law that limits electioneering to 30 days before the election.

You're not paying attn. Currently the Conservatives are set to recieve an even larger minority or even a majority if an election was called today. This is why the liberals are terrified. They stand to lose quite a few seats. Pull your head out of the sand. Stephane Dion needs his alone time down there.

The hot button issue will not be related to afghanistan. Especially since Harper recently formed a committee to review our mission mandate. For most people the mission there is really a non-issue. Hell, some of the most left wing people i know who think we shouldn't have gone believe we need to stay and finish now that we are there.

The hot button issue will be Kyoto and the environment. Dion is responsible for Canada signing the Kyoto accord and even named his farking dog Kyoto. Since Kyoto has now become a joke internationally, removing Canada from the accord and proposing a conservative "made in canada" solution is the ideal issue to make Dion look like a complete douche.
