Wow, Fark is leaning way to the right today.

2007-10-15 6:14:21 PM
This time it was the Israelis who invoked Bush's doctrine, determining that what they believed was a nascent Syrian effort to build a nuclear reactor could not be tolerated.

As the headline says, more like Bush adopted the early 1980's Israeli policy.

2007-10-15 6:18:01 PM
Well, what if Israel jumped off a bridge? Would you jump off too? Hmmpf!

2007-10-15 6:21:32 PM
Not to mention - even if the headline was truthful, wasn't Bush I vice president in 1981? Could have been his foreign policy...

I suspect Benjamin Disraeli was directed by the New York Times.

Saddam was mentally demented. A man like him shouldn't be allowed to carry a slingshot. Left alone nukes.

If he was to get WMDs, I have no doubt he would have nuked Tehran before Tel-Aviv. He was a man who enjoyed executing Iranian POW when he felt depressed. Glad his dead.

wow that is horribly written. if anything, Israel showed that preemptive strikes can be a good thing. The silence from the other Arab countries shows tacit agreement, as tfa says. Long drawn out diplomacy only allows countries to further their weapons programs, as North Korea has shown over and over.

You do know they agreed to disarm, right? You can't be that stupid.

Chances are that same silence is what would be the result if the Israelis (or anyone for that matter) were able to do the same thing to the allegedly-burgeoning Iranian nuclear program.

No, it shows that they know better than to anger a country with a shaky trigger finger and an armed forces equipped by the US. No one wants to piss off a country that has shown repeatedly it is willing to preemptively attack anyone it pleases without suffering any repercussions from the international community.

Right, because other Arab and Middle Eastern countries are so hesitant in their condemnation of Israel. Gotcha.

Let me amend that -- they are so hesitant in their condemnation of Israeli military action.

Unilateralism contributes to the proliferation of nuclear weapons

This, with the caveat that Israel once before acted (Helwan) and was, according to some experts, only days short of failing to prevent the actual use of nuclear weapons against them.

I'm no Bush fan, I think that's on record here, and there's PLENTY wrong with Israeli policy these days, but at least here there was a demonstrable and clear danger...unlike reactors in Iran which haven't been proven to be doing anything beyond a flashback to 2002's "Look at the trucks!" finger pointing by the U.S. Government. We've all seen how well THAT sort of intelligence data played out.

As far as I am concerned the NY times is one of the reasons why we're losing this war. The liberal media back home is damaging the war effort far more than any insurgents ever could.

The fact is that without the incessant complaining and whining about U.S. casulaties coming from the lefties the mission would've been accomplished years ago. We would've had more troops there, we would've been able to wage the war in a forceful manner (abu gharib anyone) and last but not least; the morale would've been higher. The liberals have forced the President to wage a half-assed war. It's not working.

The NY times: You have blood on your hands, American blood.

On the one hand, most of those idiotic statements are pretty well in-character. However, you fail because 1) You stated immediately that "we're losing this war"- a position held by no one who supports (or even defends) Bush and criticizes the New York Times in the way you did. 2) You mentioned Abu Ghraib. Conservatives have tossed that down their respective memory holes.

I wonder how long it's going to take for someone to say Israel wasn't justified to strike Saddam...

Many foreign governments, including the United States, condemned the operation, and the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed UN Security Council Resolution 487, which "strongly condemns the military attack by Israel in clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of international conduct." (S/RES/487).

What a laugh. It was the Bush administration that ignored calls from his generals that more troops were needed.

But nice try in trying to pin the blame on the liberals - the party of personal responsibility at work.

Near as I can recall, both parties have been in DC during this whole fiasco. Time to man up folks, own your part in supporting your half of the farked up congresscritters in that city we all love to hate called DC.

Let's leave the floor to Sir Bob Dylan

Well, the neighborhood bully, he's just one man
His enemies say he's on their land
They got him outnumbered about a million to one
He got no place to escape to, no place to run
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully he just lives to survive
He's criticized and condemned for being alive
He's not supposed to fight back, he's supposed to have thick skin
He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land
He's wandered the earth an exiled man
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn
He's always on trial for just being born
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized
Old women condemned him, said he could apologize
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad
The bombs were meant for him. He was supposed to feel bad
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, the chances are against it, and the odds are slim
That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him
'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a licence to kill him is given out to every maniac
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he got no allies to really speak of
What he gets he must pay for, he don't get it out of love
He buys obsolete weapons and he won't be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he's surrounded by pacifists who all want peace
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease
Now, they wouldn't hurt a fly. To hurt one they would weep
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep
He's the neighborhood bully.
Every empire that's enslaved him is gone
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon
He's made a garden of paradise in the desert sand
In bed with nobody, under no one's command
He's the neighborhood bully.

Now his holiest books have been trampled upon
No contract that he signed was worth that what it was written on
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health
He's the neighborhood bully.

What's anybody indebted to him for ?
Nothing, they say. He just likes to cause war
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed
He's the neighborhood bully.

What has he done to wear so many scars ?
Does he change the course of rivers ? Does he pollute the moon and stars ?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill
Running out the clock, time standing still
Neighborhood bully.
