(Some Guy)   Nancy Pelosi is furious at President Bush's "cruel veto pen." Would it help if he signed the veto with a little smiley face instead?   (speaker.gov) divider line

Does she hate his veto crayon too? He uses red when he's mad and blue when he's feeling sad. And green when he envious of all the people that are smarter than him.

Maybe she should buy him a pen that's not so cruel. Maybe one of those ones with the little hoolah dancer in it, and her top comes off when you turn the pen upside down. Those are funny. Well, Bush seems like a guy that would find them funny, anyway.

Okay, Congress. Now is your chance to redeem yourself. Overturn it.

Wait, what? Can't even get unanimous so-called Democrat support?

Go examine your approval rating. See if you can find a correlation.

I think she's just furious because more people didn't buy her little ruse that Bush was denying healthcare to kids.

Come on Nancy, we're smarter than that. Try again, and be less wasteful this time.

I don't smoke cigars, but is that on all of them?

My understanding is that the tax would cap out at $3, but a large share of premium cigars would be hit with the full tax.

It was even scarier when the Senate proposed $10 per stick. Honestly....I think those people enjoy farking over small business owners.

2007-10-05 6:30:46 PM
One more thing:

I know some people on Fark might think that $3 per stick isn't a lot....but since cigars frequently come in boxes of 25, we're talking $75 in taxes!!!

If a beer tax had been proposed instead, I think the majority of Farkers would finally get the point.

Another example of why we are farked. Dems finally get control back and they put Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in charge. There is a movement afoot ON THE LEFT to impeach Reid, and it is probably as plausible as impeaching Bush.

America gets closer and closer to being a failed experiment.

Ironically, we could take a cue from them and ROLL BACK this veto if congress weren't a bunch of cowards...

/should've voted "None of the above"

Shiat. It's easy for them considering all the cigars they smoke are free.

2007-10-05 6:41:20 PM
If this is such a great plan and is necessary for insuring kids why are they only taxing cigars/cigarettes? Couldn't they spread it over a more widely used commodity to make it more the responsibility of society as a whole not just smokers?

2007-10-05 6:44:35 PM
"I am shocked, SHOCKED! that the president vetoed this bill!"

If they really wanted the bill passed, they would have written one that would meet white house approval. Instead, they wrote one they knew would get vetoed in an attempt to score cheap political points and propaganda.

And try not to put the mom 'n' pop cigar stores out of business this time, will ya?

they're all afraid of Bush. He's had 6 yrs of unfettered ,unchecked power to dig up dirt on anyone he pleases. People think Nixon had files on people? Bush knows all. That's why they always make a lot of racket but bend to his will. They're afraid of his partisan NSA/Justice depts.
Reid,Pelosi,Boxer,Feinstien they are all afraid of him.

Stick a cork in it uppity biatch. You wouldn't go after the Cheney/Bush cabal and you ain't helping Henry Waxman, that great American. You ain't worth a damn as speaker of the house.

The republicans recognize what is going on; this is the beginning of the political war between health care for Americans and corporate welfare for the military industrial complex. A classic case of the guns versus butter argument from ECON 101. If this squirrelly reject from the peter principle would recognize this and act accordingly we would all be better off.

The Cato institute put out a paper on this very subject a month ago. Link

We waited years for the democrats to take over and put an end to the neocon nightmare and the democrats give us this corrupt idiot.

That's what a lot of us having been saying all along....why are you taxing a product that has nothing to do with childrens' health? I'm against ALL tax increases...but taxing fast foot and soda would have made more sense....since those items are much more damaging to children.

/There is not a kid out there who has been exposed to my cigar smoke.

I've got to figure out how to move my 401-k money completely offshore, because when there's a Democratic Congress and a Democrat President on board, the very first thing they're going to do is figure out how to distribute all that cash the "fatcats" have been "hoarding" in retirement savings.

Think of the children, people!

Umm... My uncle Pete lost his retirement when Enron screwed him over.

I don't think you can quite blame the Dems for that one. At least his money all went into one or two rich entitled pockets. That's what the tard party is all about, right?

I'm not talking about crooks stealing retirement funds. That's been going on for decades.

I'm talking about when Social Security goes belly-up some time around 2020 because all the Baby Boomers have retired and over half of them didn't bother with saving for old age.

So, where will they get the money to buy votes provide for the over-borrowed oldsters who will re-elect them? Why, the nasty, selfish people who were silly enough to save cash for later! *That* is where all the Social Security Replacement Fund money is coming from.
