"Yeah he was in a rush for some reason," said Rob.

Niiice.

Ummm...

What?

2007-10-04 12:19:18 AM
he sounds like he is inviting them in so that he can shoot them

2007-10-04 12:35:47 AM
needs HERO tag

how cool would that be to have the time to look that f*cker in the eye, level your gun at him, and say "You're a dead man."

LOL

That's wrong? :)

Assuming you're not being an asshat troll: You got that backwards, bub. The asshat doing the breaking-and-entering is purely at fault.

Tom is not an asshat troll. I can vouch for that.

what makes you assume that?

FTA: Why me? I don't know, said Rob. There are no street lights out here; it's pretty desolate.

Ya! He should build some street lights and, like, a neighborhood!

2007-10-04 3:35:55 AM
This guy's a farking nut.
FTA:
Rob shot the burglar's car a couple times but the burglar got away untouched.
WTF?
The guy'd already run away so what's up with the target practice?
If you're going to point a gun at somebody you need to be prepared to use it.

2007-10-04 3:38:19 AM
daychilde: The asshat doing the breaking-and-entering is purely at fault.

Memorize this phrase: "I feared for my own life and for the lives of those around me."

Then open fire.

2007-10-04 3:40:40 AM
He ran so fast he left his car in the driveway, the engine still running.
"Yeah he was in a rush for some reason," said Rob.
Rob shot the burglar's car a couple times but the burglar got away untouched.

At least he got to shoot something. Not quite as satisfying as flesh, but the ricochets are cool.

2007-10-04 4:57:06 AM
"So I step out from behind the wall and say 'you're a dead man.' He screams as loud as he can, drives through the window and takes off running," said Rob.

That is pretty funny.

Homeowner's an idiot. Not for defending his home with a gun, but for mouthing off about it to the press (and probably the cops, too) so soon afterwards.
You fire your weapon at someone in self-defense, STFU, and politely inform the police that you wish to seek legal counsel.
Your attorney will let you know if and when you can start bragging about it.

2007-10-04 5:05:03 AM
FTFA:

"Rob shot the burglar's car a couple times but the burglar got away untouched."

Sorry, but the second he and his property was no longer in any danger, he went from protecting his property and life in a manner that I have zero problems with to being one of the asshats who shouldn't own a firearm because they give responsible gun owners a bad name.

2007-10-04 5:06:47 AM
"I think that people just know that they have the right to protect themselves, and they're exercising that right," said Sgt. Tim Curran, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

Barnacles! needs HERO tag. how cool would that be to have the time to look that f*cker in the eye, level your gun at him, and say "You're a dead man."

For me? None whatsoever, but then again I am happy with the size of my dick.

Now, if I was in the same situation I would have wanted a gun in my hand. No denying that. But I would hope I would be less of an asshole about it; perhaps a lot to expect in the heat of the moment (I am sure I would have shouted a lot worse), but certainly after. I would also hope I would stop shooting once the guy had turned his back and fled, especially because the article makes no mention of him even being armed.

So if that is your version of a hero...great. I have higher expectations I suppose.

"Why me? I don't know," said Rob. "There are no street lights out here; it's pretty desolate."

there's your answer right there Rob.

2007-10-04 5:14:18 AM
He shot the car?
WTF?
I would have claimed the car as mine, and dared the punk to try to get it back.
Either that or sold it to a chop shop.

Yay! The benefit of a occasional landowner protecting his posessions / family far outweighs the downside of thousands and thousands killed each year (homicide / accident) because of easy access to firearms in the USA. Because, as you know, when you place sensible restrictions on gun ownership, only criminals will have guns to terrorize an unarmed populace, as evidenced by the (compared to the USA) virtual lack of any gun crime whatsoever in Europe.

Yeah, but if a dictatorial government ever takes power in the States and starts ignoring the Constitution, those gun owners will be our last....

They identify the homeowner only as "Rob", but give no explanation for this. Did he ask to be named that way? Does he have only one name? The journalistreporter has some explaining to do, and fast.

Oh no!! He had a gun! He shot at that poor man who was only trying to steal food so he could feed his family! what a mean old bastard! let's take his house and give it to that poor defenseless unarmed criminal! And he shot his car? The horror!!!

HE DEFENDED HIS PROPERTY. Don't wanna get shot at? DONT BREAK INTO SOMEONE ELSE'S HOUSE!!! GET A JOB!!! You farking anti-gun pussies make me wanna puke. Feeling sorry for the piece of shiat that probably would have killed the homeowner if given the chance. You go ahead and offer him some counseling and pray he doesn't hurt you or your family. Those of us with a brain will pop a couple of rounds in his ass and call it a day. My family comes first. fark him and his. The only shame here is that he didn't drop the farker in the living room. Save us the court costs.

He is violating our Constitutional right to break into his house.

Same thing happened to me last Friday.

I was walking in to my G/F's driveway, when I saw something moving out the corner of my eye, it was a little knacker, (about 5'3", skinny and about 15 or 16) trying to wheel her Vespa out the driveway (he didn't see me because it was dark and he was looking at the ground - he had smashed the steering lock and the handle bars and wheel were no longer aligned so he had to concentrate on steering it), so I stood still.

When he was about 6' or 7' away from me I screamed at him "I'm going to break every farking bone in your body you little farking *unt" he looked up and I would seriously say he shat himself (I'm 6'3" and 15 st., not saying I'm a big tough guy or anything, just trying to paint a picture..), he dropped the bike and ran into the front garden, I had to run around the bike and the car to get to the garden so he had a head start on me, anyhoo he vaulted the hedge and ran down the road before turning the corner and disappearing into a neighbours garden.

I stayed hidden in the shadows of that street for about 20 mins waiting for the little shiat to appear but he never did. Bike's just gone off for repairs today, he smashed a panel on the bike, broke the steering lock and wrecked the ignition.

Thinking back about it I'm kind of glad I didn't catch him as a/ I would have killed him or b/he would have killed me - he would had needed a screwdriver to fark up the ignition.

Sounds like a lazy, lazy pussy to me. If he's getting repeatedly broken in to, surely the correct course of action is to, and call me crazy, get some decent locks on your doors and get some police presence in the area. The guy who broke in needs help, not to be shot at. I doubt any of us here have been so unfortunate in our lives that we've had to resort to breaking-and-entering. Hero is not what this guy is.

dave420: get some decent locks on your doors

TFA: Rob's home has been broken into. One window is still boarded up from the last time it happened.

Your plan is brilliant.

I kid, a bit. I think he was within his right to act as he did, but I don't see much need or reason to chest-thump about the whole affair, and having successfully defended one's life and property without killing anyone sounds like a decent outcome to me.

Door looks won't stop anyone from breaking a window (FTFA), and the police won't work as your bodyguard service. They will chalk outline your corpse for free, though.

So, you are crazy. ;-)

Are you kidding? Since when do cops respond with greater presence for one guy?
Hell, it took the bastards 45 minutes to respond in Tucson when I called in a b and e

Relatively Obscure
I don't see much need or reason to chest-thump about the whole affair

His house has been broken into several times. I would post my address in the paper with the article. "You break in here, I'll kill you." Put it in the public notice section.

Have you ever been the victim of a home invasion (or even just a break-in)? How about 3 times in 3 months?

Oh, and drop the romanticized notion of criminal action (it makes you look naive); the vast majority of it isn't perpetrated by individuals who are simply "so unfortunate in [their] lives."

/Perspective: it really is important.

Um....the last time, they came through the windows. I don't think you thought your cunning plan through.

The only difference between this guy and me is I have better aim.
