Just buy from the butcher counter.
All my stuff is either fresh cut, or aged on site (you can see the stuff hanging from the counter.

I swear Wal-Mart uses a Wagner Power Painter on their ground beef. I bought a package that was obviously shipped in already ground and packaged, and it was so bright red I knew it had to be fake. When I browned it in a pan, the pan was stained red for a while from all the artifical color. I will never buy meat from WalMart again.

If the eco-weenies, the NIMBYS, and the rest of the whiners could just get a moment of rationality, we could just irradiate all of the meat sold in the USA and completely eliminate E. coli issues in packaged meat.

But no, people are so terrified at the mention of RADIATION that they think they're going to glow green and grow a tail if they eat meat that's been briefly exposed to gamma rays.

The issue is; whether it should be ok to change the color of meat to help it sell.

But since you mentioned it... I find it sad that people accept the fact that there is e. coli in their food and have bought into the line that it's ok to eat as long as you cook it through. E. coli is found in FECAL matter. So instead of cleaning up the producers and packaging plants it's ok to eat shait as long as you cook it enough.

/Whoa...almost lunch time...gotta go.

Well, it IS perfectly safe. And it's not like everything you come into contact with (including you) isn't covered in fecal coliform bacteria anyway...

I agree thought also think the issue is more about them making food look deceivingly fresher. Though a little OT, it is strange that it is perfectly acceptable to receive irradiated blood products for transfusions: http://www.bloodbook.com/products.html#Irradiated but you can't buy food to eat that has been irradiated.
