(AFP)   If you really need to relax, you could buy this newfangled "stress-free" milk. Because there's nothing stressful about paying $43 for a quart of milk   (news.yahoo.com) divider line

I guess their milkshake is bringing all the boys to the yard.

They are certainly charging.

I've been waiting all of my life for milk+...

I've seen some vile stuff involving milk from Japan. I'll pass.

Unless they have a free preview..

Couldn't they just add melatonin to regular milk?

This is, of course, assuming that ingesting melatonin would do fark all to reduce your stress levels. Which I doubt.

That is a high price to pay for "contented cows." But then, people pay even more for Kobe beef. Personally, I am willing to pay for organic bananas (on the theory that they are one of the worst offenders when it comes to pesticides, and in one of the most sensitive ecologies in the world); I will sometimes pay a premium for organic tomatoes (or simply tomatoes "on the vine"), but there's no way I'd pay $43 for milk even if the Angels of the Lord came down and bore the cattle around so their tender hooves needn't scrap against a stone.

My mother used to buy milk straight from the farm of a schoolhood chum and her husband. Pasture-fed cattle, feck-all in the way of antibiotics and hormones. Forage grown right in the next field. It didn't cost $43 even allowing for inflation. I think we thought $1 a quart was high. It was still warm from the pasturizer (I liked to think, from the cow). You had to shake the glass bottle to mix the cream and milk.

Not even mountain cheese (alpege, as they call it in Switzerland) is totally free of "stress" in the form of pollution.

I guess I should have read the article. They're adding natural hormone to the people via the cows intentionally. You can BUY melatonin as a sleep aid over the counter in the drugstore, by the way, for a few bucks. What you have as a chaser is your business. You shouldn't over rely on it, though, as it will throw your melatonin production out of whack over long periods of use.

Still something I wouldn't pay for, but those Japanese and their crazy fads. You'd think it takes less than five generations to pay off a mortgage in Tokyo or something, the way they burn through the Yen on gimmicky products. And Americans are supposed to the Masters of the Universe of Marketing.

It's better than the bloody, mucousy, pusy milk most of you buy.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm not sure where you're getting your groceries, but you should look around a bit more.

$43 for a quart of milk, still better than paying a $1 for bottled tap water

I saw this on the news this morning and it came across as a crock of shiat. My roommate (who comes from a dairy farm) and I (non-diary farm) just started laughing.

I'll pay $43 a quart for milk if I get to suck it directly out of Selma Hayek's tit.

Just keep your eyes closed when you're done.

I'd try it.
I've been eating cage-free eggs for years, and I have yet to get stuck in a cage!

And now I see that geauxtigers101 and AuralArgument, and possibly other, beat me to it.

It is said to contain three to four times as much melatonin as usual milk.

At only 30 times the price? What a bargain!

Hmmmmm..... puss, blood, and mucus. Drink up!

I think what SumoJeb is talking about comes from sources like this.
I have a friend who gave up dairy because of what goes on in dairy farms.

/not willing to give up milk
//soy milk is only ok in chai

It might be like the "perfect cantaloupe" melons on sale there for ~30 dollars. People buy them as gifts. It's supposed to symbolize your respect for the receiver of the gift.

That's part of the reason I started drinking soy milk & randomly taking calcium pills. Now if I can just kick my meat eating habits.
