Funny, if you actually read the article, it doesn't actually mention anything of the sort. Closest equivalent is a truck that has "Down with the US" written on it, which I kind of doubt he did himself.

Really, who gives a flying fark? After the attacks by Sunni extremists against the US on September 11th, 2001 to which the Iranians responded with candlelight vigils of support and solidarity, we label them part of the Axis of Evil. Us, the country that overthrew their democratically elected leader and paved the way for the religious assholes in power now, just to get oil that much cheaper. And I'm supposed to find it upsetting that Iran can muster up anti-American sentiment?

The bigger question I'd like to ask is why did the Bush administration ignore the letter he sent us in 2003 agreeing to recognize Israel, to ensure their nuclear program was peaceful, to stop funding Hezbollah and Hamas, in order to end sanctions.

Why doesn't that piss you off?

Do you know why they put the UN in the US, because we were the greatest country in the world at the time. We were pragmatists, we figured out what was the best solution and we followed it regardless of who came up with it or how much it offended our ideology.

reminds me of something I read about a couple of the most vociferouse debaters in the evolution vs creationism debates during the mid 90s. Some journalist followed the pair of supposed mortal (intellectual) enemies to a few campus debates and noted that they would make the same plays, the same attack and defense, the same back and forth, word for word, each and every time. You see, they worked together, trading jabs like a couple of card sharks trade aces under the table to screw the mark out of the pot.

World politics isn't that different. It's a game to our leaders, who live safe, comfortable lives, protected from any real threats, knowing their family members and business asociates will never be in harms way. Meanwhile the ordinary citizens are impressed, or scared, and will keep voting along the same lines, as long as they have an unwavering leader who shouts all the right phrases.

simpsonfan: The biggest mistake starting the UN was having it in New York. With all the uninhabited islands in the world, they should have picked one big enough, bought if from whoever owned it, and put the UN there. Declare it neutral territory, belonging to no nation, belonging to all. No locals to worry about, no parking problems, any leader could go there.

Sounds good. Its not too late. We could even build said island. Wouldn't have to be big.
