When will people wake up and realize that any politician, anywhere, anytime, will say whatever is politically expedient? This should be no surprise to anyone.

Hillary Clinton yesterday: *Something that makes her look good in that company*

Hillary Clinton today: *Something that makers he look good in that company, regardless of what she may have previously said*

Meh. Bad example of flip-flopping. Both statements are correct and don't necessarily cancel each other out.
People really do congregate at day-labor pick up spots. This is not a solution to our immigration problems. And the GOP really has fostered a lot of shiat-talk about Latinos. Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter come to mind.

Nice try, submitter. Excellent job completely making up a quote to make her look worse.

Headline quote: "I'm sick of seeing illegals standing around on street corners looking for yard work"
ACTUAL quote: "People have to stop employing illegal immigrants. ... I mean, come up to Westchester, go to Suffolk and Nassau counties, stand on the street corners in Brooklyn or the Bronx; you're going to see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work and construction work and domestic work."

There's nothing racist about the actual quote, whereas the headline quote seems to imply that she's disgusted by the sight of brown people waiting on the corner looking for work.

Also, I can't farking stand Kaus... He's like Slate's Lou Dobbs, except he thankfully gets much less coverage.

I gotta disagree. There are a LOT of politicians who do. But there are still principled people out there. I think Hillary is a power-obsessed shrew who will do or say whatever it takes to be president-period. Once she's in-who knows what she'd actually do?

But in contrast, look at someone like Dennis Kucinich. I disagree with that moonbat on just about everything he says. But he IS principled. He doesn't change his message to accommodate the winds of the moment. He doesn't try to appear to be "more conservative," or "more liberal," or whatever the daily polls say he should be. He delivers his (looney) message consistently, and sincerely. So although I would NEVER vote for the guy-I respect him for that.

Hilary Clinton--and any other candidate--will lose the Presidency if they are not hard on crime and hard on illegal aliens. If they run a "feel good" candidate that thinks illegals are the same as legal immigrants, we are gonna have 4 more years of a Republican White House.

The word you're searching for is "leftist" - since deliberately confusing the two concepts is the left's usual method of attacking the right's immigration policies.

No matter how much we explain that we don't care about the race of the immigrants, just that we need to make sure we have SOME modicum of screening and legality in the process - it always seems to end with our opponents screaming "racism" over it. Just look at any Fark thread about illegal immigration.

It's a pretty common tactic. Republican talks about how we desperately need to take action on illegal immigration, Democrat or "Hispanic activist" complains about how Republicans are being "unfriendly" to Hispanic people with their anti-illegal immigration policies and are racist - successfully confusing the two seperate concepts. In fact, you can see that in the quoted exchange in TFA.

But... it's not racism when a leftist talks about illegal immigration, apparently.

Oh, and "meh". Would I be surprised a transparently cynical politician contradicted herself at some point? No. In fact, I'm not much surprised when most politicians contradict themselves... Most of them are pretty cynical.

No, those people are called liberals who want to stigmatize folks (including many Latino citizens) who think the law should be upheld.

But its a chicken/egg scenario with candidates like Kucinich when it comes to national elections. Why doesn't/didn't the repubs in control start arresting white people that employ these guys? The laws are there. If you'd just enforce the law as it is, illegal immigration could be over TOMMOROW. But, that would mean arresting TONS of nice white people. Tell how this statement is false, and I'll buy that the Republican leadership doesn't pander to racism.

Interesting you'd mention Kucinich. I agree with him on a number of issues (and disagree on plenty too) The point I was trying to make (and Kucinich makes it nicely) is that if you don't pile on the bullshiat, you're unelectable.

For every off-the-book illegal employee, a business makes a lot of profit. Also, Social Security doesn't receive taxes from either the business or the illegal employee.

It doesn't matter.

The Republicans blew it, and they know it, and the Democrats know it.

Before the anti-illegal immigrant Proposition 187 passed in 1994, California was, at best, a purple state. Remember that Nixon and Reagan were both governors here.

After proposition 187 passed, California became permanently blue, because a whole bunch of Latinos who were citizens but didn't previously vote started to do so (or became citizens so they could vote), and voted straight Democratic tickets .

The Republicans loved losing California so much they decided to replicate this particular trick throughout the entire country, with the border fence and crap. Why do you think Bush was against this? Because Rove was screaming up and down that it was a bad idea.

The Democrats have never been particularly good at winning elections. However, all of a sudden, the Republicans have been particularly good at losing them.

Yep. this is so obvious that everytime somebody mentions illegal immigration without just asking why the laws now aren't enforced, I realize that they have no business voting. They are total sheep. This is one of the biggest lies going.

2007-09-17 7:42:14 PM
And what about the ancillary crimes that are part and parcel of illegal presence in the US? Chief among these is identity theft. I think some of the illegal alien defenders/Republican bashers in this thread would be singing a different tune when one of these dudes wrecks their credit, gets them in trouble with the IRS, etc. Or maybe you would like a nuke that was smuggled in over the porous border to be detonated in your town.

This is not a partisan issue. Both parties are against the citizen.
