Why, after Harriet Miers and Gonzales, would any appointee from this administration be anything to applaud.

Impeach the bastard. Starting with Cheney.

It's the honorable thing to do, America.

I have to admit that when I heard Ashcroft was stepping down, I rejoiced and thought it couldn't get much worse.

I was wrong.

This guy seems better than Ashcroft and a whole hell of a lot better than Gonzales.

I sure hope I'm not wrong again. With Bush's track record of appointees, I'm a little skeptical, but this guy seems OK a priori.

At this point, Tommy Flanagan would be a better AG than what we've had lately. Plus I hear he's dating Morgan Fairchild.

What is interesting is the the ultra-cons are mobilizing, ala Harriet Myers, to take down this nomination becuase the Dems like him.

The bar has been lowered so far that I would be satisfied with ANY nominee that has a JD degree and has never been a personal friend or counsel of President Bush.

This situation ought to show you that we don't criticize Bush when he does things right. Only when he does things wrong.

Which has been nearly always, but this seems like a good move.

and I really admire how much you guys seem to forget what you have said in the past. Honestly if I were Bush I would have nominated whoever the hell I wanted since it will not matter to any democrat what he does. Bush tried the "be nice to democrats and they will be nice to you" thing in his first few years and see what it got him

Harriet Miers was a joke. Harry Reid was just screwing around with Bush when he recommended her, and Bush is such an idiot, he thought Reid was serious.

You claim that everyone is just suffering from "Bush Derangement Syndrome" and will disagree with anything he does just because its Bush, and now that people are actually agreeing with a decision of his you're basically saying "OMG you're all liars and hypocrites for not completely living up to the BDS strawman I've labeled you with!"

And yeah, I certainly remember how kind and generous Bush and his supporters were towards political opposition in the first couple years... Especially that period from late 2001 to early 2003. I honestly don't understand what kind of crazy alternate reality you must be living in.

I know that this will be impossible for you to wrap your sad little head around, but I'm not a liberal. Being a liberal is not required to hate Bush. In factm the only people left that do not hate Bush are hard-right partisans. the middle and left are done with him. You can take him home and suck him off for all I care.

Really sit down and try to let that one sink in now that we are little removed from it. We were just victims of a terrorist attack in NYC and the world was a mess (still is). Anyway, here America is in this new time needing to do the right thing in a confusing situation, and this was one of the huge things. I'm a little bit more optimistic than boomaze, but not much. I think that the whole system of government needs an overhaul. Funny thing is, we have to get people into positions of power who aren't going to mind losing some of that power, and that's counter the nature of people who seek power. The first thing that the next president needs to do is relinquish a good deal of the power that Pres. Bush scared the country and the congress into giving him. Not to mention fire as many Bush appointees as possible within the bounds of law. Which brings us back to the subject of this thread. WE DONT LIKE PEOPLE WHO ABUSE THEIR POWER AND BREAK THE LAW. This new guy hasn't done that yet and doesn't seem as likely to do so as the old guys, so were giving him the benefit of the doubt

Is it just me or does this judge look like Judge Whitey, the WASP Upper Class Twit, on Futurama?

Whitey: The charge is bank robbery. Now, my chauffeur informs me that a bank is a place where people put money that isn't properly invested. Therefore, robbing a bank is tantamount to that most heinous of crimes, theft of money.

This marks the second major appointee of Bush's that I liked (Colin Powell being the first).

Time will be the ultimate judge, of course, of Mukasey, but from his past record, he's qualified and it seems he'll make a good AG.

What's the matter, you just discover your strawman liberals aren't actually real? Even people who hate Bush like it when he makes good decisions. At a first glance, this decision seems like a good one.
