typical.

Contrast that with the fact that only Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) agreed to come to a Republican debate held by Univisión, causing the network to cancel it for a lack of interest.

Typical TF "conservative" headline, I agree.

Article headline is slightly misleading, but far more accurate than what subby came up with.

Our brave Republicans pygmies have scheduling issues. Someone has to fill 24 hours a day for the sheep viewing Pox

Article headline is patently false.

The headline is demonstrably false - Republicans were invited to a debate, but refused because speaking any language other than Amurrcan would piss off their xenophobic base.

Really poor attempt, trollmitter. Next time try not lying.

2007-09-09 2:18:49 PM
Why does this not surprise me? Republicans are scared of those brown people and have no desire to associate with them, unless they are mowing their lawn.

White is right?

I do wonder, however, if the Dems' plans to reduce or cease campaigning in FL would extend the Univision debates.

mistersite: Really poor attempt, trollmitter. Next time try not lying.

Indeed. Problem is, that headline got greenlighted for a reason. Stick around and witness that reason for a while. The Admin responsible will be fapping all afternoon, I'm sure.
Kind of a half-hearted attempt, though - it would go main page if it weren't a simple issue of fetish.

"Republicans Ignore People of Color" = We hate the white men who did not pass the legislation that a foreign country wanted them to.

CaptainFatass: And to think, just a few short years ago, Republicans were gloating about how they were going to pick up larger and larger segments of the Latino population.

2006 really gave them a kick in the pants on that one. Bush wouldn't have been elected without his Latino support. The Republicans are aiming exclusively at a white conservative male audience this election cycle, when that demographic is shrinking day by day, and it's going to doom them in 2008.

Sounds yummy. What are the percentages of refried beans, ground beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and corn tortillas?

They miscalculated the extent of their base's paranoid xenophobia.

Exactly. Gotta get page hits somehow.

Donald_McRonald: Here's the Republican NAACP debate:

The fact that Tancredo showed up for that when none of the other Republicans did, earned him his first (and only) ounce of respect from me. Not that he cares, but still he showed some real stones that night, in the face of what he knew was going to be a hostile audience.

Now, if he could stop being such a doucherocket about everything else...

2007-09-09 3:36:48 PM
I know I'm going to get flamed to death for even suggesting this but:

You realize both Republicans and Democrats avoid making appearances which are stacked against them right?

Democrats avoid Fox news for the same reasons Republicans decline invitations from certain groups.

Also, if I were the head of such an organization, I would go out of my way to schedule a debate/event at a time I knew the people I opposed couldn't make just so I could get the incendiary headlines. Headlines about "Republicans hate brown people" and "Democrats hate family values" are far more effective than actually hosting the debate to further your cause.

Um, perhaps this is a silly question, but are the candidates going to debate in Spanish? I know Bill Richardson speaks it, so is he going to speak Spanish while the rest get translated? Isn't that a bit awkward?
And this is a bit off-topic, but why is America the only country where bilingualism has a negative connotation, as in: "You can't make my child learn Spanish..." etc. etc.

Dios mio...

2007-09-09 3:47:23 PM
Last I checked it was the Republicans who were trying to pass an amnesty bill for the illegals, and may be pushing for the N.A.U.

Can Mexican political races have some of their debates in English? It would be interesting to see, and they could carry it on C-SPANish.

The truth: only mccain accepted the invite.

both richardson and dodd are fluent in spanish. they have been asked to speak in english. i bet they go for spanglish when it will score points.

Snarfangel: Can Mexican political races have some of their debates in English? It would be interesting to see, and they could carry it on C-SPANish.

They probably could do it in English, which is more than can be said for the candidates in the US being able to do it in another language. What's wrong with being able to debate someone in another language? Doesn't that signal more education and more openness in the backgrounds of the candidate?

2007-09-09 4:05:40 PM
Actually, lack of interest may also have been misleading. I'd have been interested in watching McCain debate himself. The political value would be questionable, but it'd be great entertainment.

TheCid

Actually, its ethnocentrism not xenophobia.

The thought process is something like this: America is better than other countries. If people from other countries come here, they should adopt our 'good' way of life and leave their 'bad' way of life at the door.

They're similar, but distinct. A xenophobe says "no foreigners" an ethnocentrist says "foreigners need to act like Americans".

And it isn't just America. France is probably more ethnocentric than us.

coco ebert: Um, perhaps this is a silly question, but are the candidates going to debate in Spanish? I know Bill Richardson speaks it, so is he going to speak Spanish while the rest get translated? Isn't that a bit awkward?

From what I heard, they were going to require all candidates (Dodd also speaks spanish) to reply in English, then translate (when broadcast on tc)

Anyone who uses the term "people of color" in anything but a historical context is an asshat, period.

From what I've seen on Univision, the debate will be moderated by a big breasted hottie in a bikini and a fat bald guy wearing a diaper.

FTFA: The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials invited all Republican presidential hopefuls to its annual convention at Disney World at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Only one showed up -- Rep. Duncan Hunter, of California

I bet that's a real radical group. They were right to stay away.
