You can't debate creationists. Why even bother?

Fundamentalists make up a small minority of Christians and one of their favorite ploys is to equate evolution with atheism. This is far from the truth.

Summon you-know-who.

If anybody pulls that whole "why is there nothing instead of something" parsimony crap in an attempt to defend creationism, just explain that they are confusing "parsimonious" with "least complex"... here's an interesting read on this argument:

A general prediction of what will happen in this thread:

-Lots of people will post the "Summon Bevets" card
-Bevets will post his usual canned links which assert that it's more important to believe in the supernatural than to seek scientific explanations
-Activist SkinnyHead will propose teaching intelligent design "along side" evolution but refuse to explain why we also shouldn't teach astrology, numerology, or non-Christian theories of creation.
-Random science types such as AlanSmithee will appear to post snazzy pictures of fossils and mock the platipusses (platupi?)
-Godwin?

I'm pretty sure God evolved bigger and tastier balls in order to survive amongst gods with small and nasty balls.

an acceptance of evolution is entirely compatible with an authentic and living Christian faith

The Episcipols did it right. What scares 'true believers' is the idea that by embracing evolution, they must accept that the 'Garden of Eden' was not a true story. The thought process is: If one part of the Bible is wrong, why couldn't other parts be wrong? Not like they take everything from their old book literally anyways, I don't understand the outrage...

Are you saying creationists are Masterdebaters?

On a serious note. Most of the issues raised by intelligent design are actually solved with Chaos theory. In point of fact, the Universe is NOT completely random, and certain outcomes are more likely than others because we are dealing with a large complex system of interactions. Not merely a brownian movement of atoms.

According to a prominent evolutionist leader, if you believe in "theistic evolution," you are nothing more that a creationist willing to abandon your faith when challenged:

"I'm sorry, but theistic evolutionists are creationists. They're just creationists who accept evidence and readily back off from specific claims about their creator god, but they still place faith in unwarranted assumptions about the existence and interventions of a supernatural being, they just tuck it into the gaps in our knowledge. What makes theistic evolution somewhat acceptable to scientists is that its proponents are so willing to run away from their faith when challenged." ~ Prominent evolutionist leader, PZ Myers.
In other words, if you believe that God played any role in the evolution of man, atheistic evolutionists look upon you not only as a creationist, but as a spineless suck-up willing to run away from your faith when challenged.

There is no debate on this issue, it was settled beyond any doubt many decades ago. Literally thousands of instances of new supporting evidence are found per day in the US alone.

If you know a creationist, just make sure something bad happens to them before they reproduce. Humankind isn't likely to fare well if such mental defectiveness is tolerated.

No. Eugenics is nothing to laugh about. And frankly as far as I'm concerned (when my followers take over and I rule the world with an iron fist) if you perform some vital role, I don't care what the hell kind of graven images you worship.

Just pay your damn taxes and show up to work.

What major religions officially do not recognize evolution? Are there any? I know Catholics do, Presbyterians do, and Episcopals do. I believe that is a majority of Christians.

I'm just trying to keep them from polluting the gene pool further.

How about every time a creationist open his mouth we debate sterilizing idiots. Just as valid as their moronic arguments

DeltaPunch: If anybody pulls that whole "why is there nothing instead of something" parsimony crap in an attempt to defend creationism, just explain that they are confusing "parsimonious" with "least complex"...

Not to mention that the idea that God is behind it all is NOT the least complex solution. In fact, it doesn't actually explain anything, but instead pushes off the complexity of understanding the universe into the complexity of understanding "God". The "God did it" explanation is completely empty of explanatory power, because it just shifts the complexity elsewhere. Worse, many people will claim that God is inherently impossible to understand, which by implication means that they are saying we just shouldn't even try to understand the universe around us.

"God did it" is only a satisfying explanation for the most feeble of minds. At least the more intelligent theists realize that; many of the dumber ones don't.
