Yep, unions have been bastions of corruption, champions of mediocrity, and the KKK in disguise for quite some time. It still floors me that they are allowed to take money from people and call what they do legitimate.

Unions, Churches, Businesses

They can all have bad management

Good leadership and making sure decisions are made openly help all of them perform best.

True. However, churches have the interesting situation of having a perpetually absent CEO.

Sounds like he should revamp his Human Resources department then to weed out some of the bad apples. Unfortunately, as everyone knows it's Satan that controls all HR departments.

wow. Amazing how you folks can take a story showing how liberal, Democrat voting unions have been filled for racists for most of a hundred years and turn those facts around into assaults on
businesses, churches and God.

But then narrow-minded people always have issues with truths that
don't match their own hate-filled agendas.

This actually does include blacks, women and several other demographic groups. Reality sucks. Equality and Liberty require sacrifice, something the privileged fear.

While some of the more specialized unions have been keen on keeping a lily white composition, by and large, unions have been one of the primary forces for racial integration in US history. This common cause is perfectly sensible - unions comprise workers who're less educated or skilled and racial minorities have historically been disenfranchised from higher schooling and apprenticeships. It's a win-win for both groups.

I don't recall ever recieving a fee from a church. Not for the weekly services, not for weddings, nor for funerals. Some members choose to give, some do not. This setup never yields a profit, but hence non-profit. By your logic any nonprofit would be sham, those homeless shelters and soup kitchens must be rolling in the dough. PBS and NPR?

No, you get the job if you're the best. Not if you're white. Not if you're black. Not if you're a man. Not if you're a woman.

You and me both. The fact of life I most hated to accept was: "It's not what you know; it's who you know."

That always seemed inherently unjust.

Atillathepun:It's not racist as long as it helps out blacks people who are legitimately under-represented in the political and economic success of this country.

So racism is't racism as long as the person being oppressed is the same race as someone with a good education? Here's a heads up: WHITE PEOPLE LIVE IN shiatTY AREAS TOO. They are also poor. They also go to shiatty schools. The fact that some of you think that only minorities have it rough shows exactly how ignorant you are. and no. i'm not white. I merely hate this double standard.

UrsaMajor: This setup never yields a profit, but hence non-profit.

Religion is one of the biggest money-making businesses in the country. There are mega-churches going up all over the country. Churches are creating their own religious oriented theme parks. They're creating museums to espouse their cherished beliefs and they're getting paid handsomely for it. The ones that don't seem to do as well are the ones who don't turn their services into multimedia presentations beamed out by satellite to millions of potential suckers, I mean worshipers.

The word of the Lord has been changed to say that if you are rich, God is blessing you and you have no requirement to help the poor.

I'm kind of sick of being on construction sites where I can't understand the workers and have to get someone to translate. Damn cheap sub-contractors with sub par work. Don't buy a house built after the 1970's the construction is atrocious. Pre-WWII homes are far superior in construction to anything built after WWII. But anything built after the 70's is made with the cheapest contractors and materials possible.

Learn Spanish. It's not hard. Aside from that whole noun gender thing, it's actually a much more logically structured language.

Castillian Spanish is different from Mexican Sapnishiatook a couple years of Spanish and can understand a little more of it when I talk to someone from Spain. In fact, I could I understand the Catolonians more when they spoke Spanish then the lower class Mexicans.

And in addition why should I have to learn Spanish to work in my own country?

In my previous comment Sapnishiatook is not how it appeared in the preview box. '...Spanishiatook...'

Very true. I don't expect that you'd run into many Argentinians or Spaniards on construction sites, though. Doesn't make much sense to learn Castillian Spanish.

And in addition why should I have to learn Spanish to work in my own country?

Because "your country" is a nation founded on the concept of freedom, and that means that you have no right to use government force to enact whatever social changes you deem necessary, and that includes deciding which language is predominant. If Spanish is the predominant language at a construction site, it makes sense for you to learn Spanish if you want to work there. That's how a free market works. The same way if English is the predominant language at an office, it makes sense for anyone who wishes to work there to be capable of speaking English. It is not the proper role of the government to be forcing the predominance of any language.

Fourthly,

I tried speaking Spanish to people in TJ and they responded in English and spoke it better then people I have encountered in gas stations and construction sites in the US. Please don't tell me that the residents of Tijuana can learn English better then Foreign Nationals in the US.

My grandad was German, he learnt English. My grandma on the other side was Slovakian, she learnt English. What is the big problem with learning the common language?

Do you know that the largest ethnic group in America is German? Why don't we all speak German, now?

The principles of freedom are not related completely tied to language. I understand your point and disagree, but I will defend your right to say it.

Nothing. On that construction site, from what you tell me, the common language is Spanish.

Because German immigration was much more spread out over the centuries than many other ethnic groups.

There are 6 billion people on the planet Earth.

90% of us don't do anything worthwhile.

Thus, your ideal version of labor is silly.

The common language on construction sites is still English, but some of the sub-contractors employees can't communicate and it creates safety issues.
