The bastard is still going to get off scot-free and retire comfortably in speaking fees.

And like Nixon, he will be occasionally asked his opinion of foreign policy matters.

No impeachment, no war crimes, no resigning in disgrace.

Yeah, it sucks.

Look, Bush is just following on of St. Ronnies most sacred tenents: Facts are stupid things.

You know what I've noticed? I don't see The Preznit much. The last time I remember seeing him on the news he was bemoaning the fact that the truth chased his good friend Speedy Gonzalez out of the AG seat. Ayeup, The Preznit called Gonzalez a man of integrity, decency and principle once again proving he has no grasp of the English language.

So, what is he saying about this report now? So far I've heard Tony Snow, just as he was jumping the sinking ship, say that we haven't met the benchmarks but, hey, I've got cancer-- see ya!
Nothing from The Dub. He's feeling frustrated because he didn't get to trutherize the report before it leaked. Or more likely have somebody do it for him, what with his problems with English.

PinkSlinky: You know what I've noticed? I don't see The Preznit much.

I especially like that he can no longer do goodwill gestures like throwing the first pitch out at baseball games.

He won't do it because he would be booed.

Hard.

It was the Washington Post, the GAO and VoteVets that said it. But if FlashLV disagrees, it must have it's basis in reality.

Listening to NPR lastnight they were saying something about it not being correct.

We do understand Flash. I'm all for religious freedom, so worshipping at the foot of the sainted Ronnie R is your right and privilege. Go ahead and disregard facts, they're stupid anyway.

I may even try your religion. There are many facts that I'd like to disregard as stupid too. The FDA tells me that butter crunch ice cream is full of fat and calories but I heard tell on a website I do not recall the address to that the FDA isn't always 100% correct. It could be that butter crunch ice cream as just as much fat and calories as an equal amount of spinach.

Did NPR say if the general tone of the report was correct or is it just way out there wacky?

2007-08-31 3:01:52 PM
Basically, the problem with the GAO report (according to the administration) is:

1) The 18 benchmarks were graded pass/fail; they either had been met, or they had not been met.
2) Due to the above, there was no way to grade or scale things that were in the process of "improving."
3) Because of the above, it painted a bleaker picture of the situation in Iraq than what the administration thinks (or wants to think, or wants us to think, depending on how you look at it) is actually occuring.

That said, the GAO report is supposed to be independent, so the report does have some merit. And I've yet to hear some viable truths from anyone in this administration that weren't obviously truths from the get-go.

Of course, this won't matter to the Bush adherents. The Freepers and the rest of their ilk will talk about conspiracies, and how much the GAO hates Amurika and want our troops to die, or some such.

So overall, the GAO report is, in the long run, completely irrelevent. The war will keep going until it peters out (like Vietnam), we will reach some kind of stale-mate or ceasefire (like Korea), and we will have lost time, people, equipment, money, and international goodwill and capital for no gain (like both Korea and Vietnam).

The fact of the matter is we got hoodwinked. Lied to. Manipulated. We had our emotions played with by fear, nationalism, arrogance. Ah, the irony would be hilarious, if only it were some other country...

Even a broken clock is right every 24 hrs. Actually, SR, they'd have been better off if we'd just bombed the crap out of them and gone home - as would the Afghanis. Wars of occupation have never worked. Not for the Romans, not for the Normans, not for the Soviets, and not for us. If one must fight, fight only your real enemies. Kick their asses thoroughly, dust off your hands, and walk away. It's far more humane and effective, in the long run.

While I do not disagree with your statement in general, in this specific instance I do disagree. 2000 years of empire sounds like it worked out fairly well for them.

jso2897: not for the Normans

Wait, what? No, seriously, what the hell. The Normans are still IN ENGLAND. The current English (actually they're Scots, but shhh) royals are part Norman.

Man, you need better examples.

Yeah, you take a break from playing video games to share your words of wisdom.

He just condescended our military, you idiot.

Watch his blink rate:
Link (new window)

He is under HIGH STRESS because he knows this will get press, why? Because he is undermining the Surge report before it comes out, pretending like ITS NOT EVEN REAL!

"SURGE" as if its a figment of someones imagination.....tell that to the men and women of the armed forces who are enacting it...

This man is lying to you. The stress is in his eyes. He reminds us he is a candidate for president? Thanks, unnecessary, he is headline grabbing, and he knows it...at the expense of serious people making a serious effort to change things in Iraq.

He fails.

I'd say his comment is directed at the Top Dog who sent them into harm's way. And "condescended" isn't a word, BTW.

Because he is undermining the Surge report before it comes out, pretending like ITS NOT EVEN REAL!

The surge is a failure. Learn it, love it, learn it. Nothing we do (except leaving) is going to stop people from hating us over there and wanting us OUT.

This man is lying to you. The stress is in his eyes. He reminds us he is a candidate for president? Thanks, unnecessary, he is headline grabbing, and he knows it...at the expense of serious people making a serious effort to change things in Iraq.

I don't like him. I wouldn't vote for him. But I do know that what he is saying is obvious.

"SURGE" as if its a figment of someones imagination..

No, the "SURGE" like it's actually going to diddly squat in a war we've already lost.

...tell that to the men and women of the armed forces who are enacting it...

Yeah, that reminds me. When are you signing up, again? You know? To put your money where your mouth is?

Which branch? Or if you have already signed up, when do you bug out?

I love these democrat partisans who claim the surge is a failure before the report has come out.

So transparent.

Eh, ain't gonna fault you. Honestly, I'm having a hard time getting even slightly irritated you, with Malum in the thread.

Of course, it could be my 5:00 Friday mellow, since I just got an Amazon gift certificate, I got pizza and root beer at home and Metroid Prime 3 to crack open. Better'n a blunt right now.`
