I, for one, believe it is about time that we reclaim the musical theater from the clutches of the homosexual cabal!

Exhibit A: not gay (new window)

/well, Sondheim is, dammit)

Wow. I... I can't believe I just read that.

I thought musicals were automatically gay by nature?

/Broadwayyyyyyy!!

I'm so sick of this! Not everything is a gay metaphor, not all attractive male celebs are gay nor is any woman who isn't a slut. Not everything is gay!

This is really gay, though.

FTFA: the person who wrote this then u suck and u are gay!!!! people like this and u put them down because they are cool and famous and u r a loser and maybe ur gay and a loser and u live in ur mother's basement!!!! stupid loser!!!

The comments on the blog are hilarious. I liked the comment from the girl who said the writer must be gay to see gay themes in the movie (as if the writer is trying to hide his sexuality writing for queersighted.com). The best, though, is the girl who objected to the writer calling the movie "gay," not understanding that the word gay actually means homosexual, not just used interchangeably with "bad." Just amazing.

This one time I saw these two guys making out in the woods, and that was the gayest thing I'd ever seen until I read those comments from those clueless little kids.

Everything is super when you're gay.

2007-08-21 9:54:17 PM
This is a stupid article. Maybe you're the one who is gay since you like to talk about it so much. :-)

I call shenanigans anytime I see proper apostrophe use in a comment on a blog.

2007-08-21 10:07:28 PM
The reaction to that article is likely more entertaining than the movies AND the article itself.

I have the nagging sensation that High School Musical is some kind of incredible phenomenon that has passed me by completely.

That dude should be slapped.
Not for the gay, but for actually watching that pile of trash.

I'm not gay, but the guy I have hardcore anal sex is. He watched HSM2 and told me that it wasn't nearly gay enough for him.

2007-08-21 11:26:23 PM
My sister went to a HSM2 party; apparently she never saw HSM, but it was the cool thing to do, supposedly.

Never saw either one, but I can see where some gay subtexts, accidental or intentional, would clearly fit into a movie with the high school themes, cliques, etc.

I'm still reeling from last week's revelation that Siegfried and Roy have secretly been gay all these years.

as a bisexual canadian i am really getting a kick out of theses blog comments...

ROFL, so there was gay subtext big deal there can be subtext read into anything, like how harry potter is a christian metaphore with dumbledore as god or conversely a heathanistic how to for witchcraft which should be burned en masse. c'mon ppl a musical.... i realize it doesnt immediately mean the guys were gay but you just know someone was going to ask the question. perhaps the asian fascination with yaoi (google if you dont get it ;) ) is moving into mainstream american culture :P *points at all the 13 yr old tweenyboopers parents and laugs*

/tweenyboppers those occupying a space between childhood and being a teenager, because child, youth, minor and teenager didnt cover the spectrum well enough... or hollywood wanted another demographic to market to so created one.
//sees both sides to argument and feels the homophobic children posting comments on the blog are SOOOO GAY!!! LIKE OMG OMG OMG!!!!

I'm gay and I write musical theater (truly), so I'm getting a big kick out of these responses here (and especially on the blog).

I refuse to watch these steaming piles of crap they're trying to pass off as the new wave of musicals, but yeah, they're gay. The actors may not be gay, but tell me how these semi-androgynous underdeveloped teens are not meant to appeal to both 13 year-old girls and 25 year-old gays.

Everything above and below this post is gay.

I was forced to watch this with my four-year old daughter so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies...

Watching this movie only served to confirm my heterosexuality. Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Anne Hudgens HAWT...

/not a pervert
//both are legal

2007-08-22 11:42:08 AM
Whoa. Had a brief mental image of Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens...together...

//have a 10 year old, so I'm familiar with Disney Channel
///bunk, now, don't bother me

Which musicals are you referring to?

I work with the Gayest Editor Ever, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies...

Until recently, I thought that High School Musical was some sort of documentary about a, high school musical. Then I find out that it's basically A Chorus Line. So by definiton, gay.

/Must find a way to boost pageviews -- need some golden calves of my own to slaughter.

2007-08-22 3:03:25 PM
Watching HSM is gayer than a Golden Girls Marathon.

Possibly gayer than having fifteen immagrants run a buttsecks train through your anus.

Give these kids a break, they're young, white suburbanites who have either never met a gay man or aren't aware enough to realize their uncle with the popsicle sticks taped to his wrists doesn't really have 34 "special friends."

2007-08-22 3:23:07 PM
Corbin Bleu...
he needed the money!

Uh what?

2007-08-22 3:33:24 PM
i told my 6 year old son that the new movie was on TV, he just looked at me and said "uh, I don't watch that, I don't like it, it is for girls."

Never before has my son made a distinction like this out loud. Don't know the point of this, but I guess I can assume he will be going to prom with a girl now.

p the boiler: Don't know the point of this, but I guess I can assume he will be going to prom with a girl now.

or that there's a possibility that he has good taste, or at least not shiatty taste.

Seriously, the appeal of High School Musical is completely lost on me. Even if I were in the age demographic, I don't think it would be my thing.

2007-08-22 11:29:46 PM
You can get any subtext from almost anything.

BTW, the amount of people who posted stuff along the lines of "OMG, no you must be gay if you see gay stuff in HSM!!!" were really funny. (These are just the ones who actually knew what a homosexual actually was.) It's like they missed the whole theme of the website...

2007-08-23 3:18:34 AM
I'm not gay, but watching that might make me switch. GHEY!

I just saw the commercial on TV and my wrists went all limp for nearly an hour.

2007-08-23 10:32:23 PM
those comments would be hilarious if they weren't so utterly stupid...
