Yeah. Actually, they say this means the GOP as a whole is declaring open war on brown people.

Pogrom: a form of riot directed against a particular group, whether ethnic, religious or other, and characterized by destruction of their homes, businesses and religious centers. Usually pogroms are accompanied by physical violence against the targeted people and even murder or massacre. The term has historically been used to denote extensive violence, either spontaneous or premeditated, against Jews, but has been applied to similar incidents against other, mostly minority, groups. Since Gingrich isn't a Rep anymore, I think it's somewhat less than a dead lock that "Gingrich overstates danger of illegal immigrants" = "the GOP declares open war on brown people" and/or "pogroms are coming."

Well, even as a brown person, I didn't take it as a declaration of war or the start of a pogrom on people who happen to have my skin color....I took it that he wants some real action, a la law enforcement when it comes to illegal aliens.

that one always screwed with me as well. theres really no difference in using the two terms, they are interchangeable in this instance.

and yeah, for those that think the huffington is being assinine, there are white power groups using this RIGHT NOW here in arizona to recruit. the guy who was talking ot me sounded like they were going to start driving through ghettos and lynching suspected illegals.

I can't stand this argument, not because it's against illegal immigrants but because it's such a straw-man.
A person's immigration status has nothing to do with killing three people, it has nothing to do with that DUI accident they were involved in, it has nothing to do with the bank they just robbed.
It's a bullshiat appeal to emotion, nothing more.

I saw this BS on tv the other night...I think it might have been Hannity going on and on about how terrible it was this guy was an illegal alien.

IIRC, it was 3 guys who committed the murder.

1 of them was illegal.

2/3 of the murderers were LEGAL citizens SO STFU ALREADY!!!

No, but we do have cities full of immigrants that used to be fairly safe places to live and now are hotbeds of gang violence and poverty because of the demographic change.

I'm not saying that Mexicans are bad. Legal immigrants help make this country a great place to live and work. Most of the people immigrating illegally are extremely poor. A city or town can absorb a certain percentage of them with very little ill effect. When those people are fully integrated, their standard of living approaches the average standard of living for that area. Then that city can absorb more. The problems start happening when a city or town is forced to absorb a large number of people at or below the poverty line.

I think the point is that the murders would have likely never have happened if the state had reported his illegal status to the Feds like they were legally obligated to do. But letting a child rapist out on bail is probably a bad thing no matter what his immigration status.

Cannot remember where I saw it...but he is right. The number of US Casualties in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan total are equal to the number of US deaths caused by illegal's in one year.

I hate Newt...but in this case, he is correct.

Here is my question...a child rapist + Illegal Alien = Bail?? How in the hell does that work. Shouldn't you get hauled off to jail, get tried and go back to jail? Once your free you get a ticket back to Peru.

Whys is this so difficult?

There's a small step you missed there.

Back when my grandparents came over from Italy, the boat docked, you gave the nice man your name (sometimes he changed it to make it sound more American) and they listened to your chest to see if you had any diseases. Basically, everybody got in - no criminal checks (they weren't capable of international criminal checks back then) and you went on your merry way to be abused in the mills, or the mines and even to build railroads, depending on where you landed.

Those were the immigrants you referred to as having helped build this country - and you are right, they did.

But somewhere along the way here we made it difficult to impossible to emigrate here. As someone who watched a friend of mine go through the process, and this is a very well educated, highly skilled person, it is beyond painful.

I can tell you that once you declare someone illegal, take away their driver's license and make it almost impossible for them to work honestly - guess what - they tend to do what they have to, including turning to crime.

Fix the problem.
That's the answer.

I got this crazy new idea the other day. What if we only started punishing the people that commit crimes when they commit crimes. For example, when some Mexican shoots people, we throw him in prison instead of running into Taco Bell and yelling "get out of our country!1". What if, when a black person stole something, we put him in jail instead of telling children that "dem nigz" walking down the street will try to mug them. What if, when some oil tycoon leader of a CIA funded insurgent group crashes planes into buildings, we warned people about his small, apocalyptic religious sect and tried to stop his militant group, rather than invading completely unrelated countries and telling citizens that everyone that says "God" in a different language is secretly plotting to kill them.

Never mind that Many more Americans die at the hands of other Americans. so in essence he is saying that there are relatively few American deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.
