submitter: All hail tolerance

To hell with tolerance in the marketplace. If a business wants to cater to one eyed, left handed, suicide bombers, that should be their prerogative. They will soon find their doors closed from lack of business.

You have no right to be tolerated anywhere. If you do or say something stupid or ignorant, you have no "toleration rights." You *DO* have a right not to be discriminated against based on the rule of law, and the Constitution, of the United States.

Screw tolerance...and for that matter, subby, screw you too.

If it was a pro-Israel T-shirt then not only should he have gotten service, but all of the American customers in the place should have been charged for his meal.

I thought those bidets were a little close to the floor. I couldn't figure out why I was being forced to squat to clean my ass. My bad.

College has never been about tolerance.
It's been about being an individual, just like everybody else.

The president of the university's Pro-Israel Terrapin Alliance opined, "The arrangement we worked out, while not ideal, is a reasonable accommodation. I would not want to force anyone to act against their own political beliefs."

Cashiers can make political statements?

Is this anything like Christian pharmacists refusing to sell condoms or fill birth control prescriptions?

College students can be self-rightious idiots. I know b/c I see them all the time in my office. One of the lessons I offer them is that the world does not revolve around them. Some get it, but most don't.

No. That's all about saving your christian soul. This is about something or other else that might could have some sort of something or not.

The University should have slapped down the co-op and hard. They should have threatened to pull any funding from them associated with their affiliation until they complied with university policy.

I like how NRO claims this whole situation is the liberals fault. It's just a stupid administrator making a bad decision, nothing to do with liberal or not. Remember the Civil Rights Movement? If you work in the public, you have to behave that way.

Anyway, while this is an isolated incident, I'm sure the pro-life pharmacist crowd is cheering on the cashier. Oy vey.

Once we all look the same, act the same and believe the exact same things about life, the universe and everything - equality and harmony will be achieved. Only the collective is free.

FTA The university's student union director, Gretchen Metzelaars, was, however, unable to convince members of the coop that they had discriminated.

Whole lot of stupid goin' on at the University of Maryland.

It's... teh 'tolerance'.

It's... teh 'diversity'.

It's... teh 'inclusion'.

It's... teh 'open mindedness'.

It's... teh 'free exchange of ideas'.

Just so long as you agree with... teh liberal.
Otherwise...

THERE'S NO HATE LIKE LIBERAL HATE.

I'm wondering how the Republicans are going to recognize this Free Marketeers vs. Fellating Israel dilemma.

I wonder if I complained because I had a shirt that said "I stand for Iran" and didn't get served how sympathetic the bastion of conservative integrity that is NRO would be to my story.

Yes... but will the cashiers have to sell morning after pills?

Since when has being brown been a prerequisite for being muslim? Sounds like you're engaging in profiling.

Seriously.
As a retired "hippy" from the 70's.

HUH??!!

That witty riposte sure makes up for your comments about pissing on Muslims and shiatting in their footbaths. Way to show 'em!

This doesn't bother me at all, serve whoever you want. But, if it was the other way around, most of you would be in an uproar, like you are with the pharmacists who don't want to deal with abortion drugs.

2007-08-14 5:24:13 PM
"no one should have to have contact with people whose views they find hurtful."

So this means I never have to have contact with Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, socialists, monarchists, or homophobes ever again? Cool beans.

Jon Snow: I wonder if I complained because I had a shirt that said "I stand for Iran" and didn't get served how sympathetic the bastion of conservative integrity that is NRO would be to my story.

I doubt they'd be sympathetic at all but I wouldn't call the NRO a bastion of any type of integrity much less "conservative".

But I don't see this as a "Free Marketeer" issue, either. The two groups were somehow able to reach an amicable agreement without any government interference. Mysterious!

The cashier here is similar to the passengers that freaked out over the guy who was wearing a t-shirt with an Arabic phrasing.

BiffDangler: This doesn't bother me at all, serve whoever you want. But, if it was the other way around, most of you would be in an uproar, like you are with the pharmacists who don't want to deal with abortion drugs.

And NRO would be suspiciously silent.

Though you do raise a good point.

However, I'm pretty certain the cafe wasn't state-sponsored, like most pharmacists are.

If it was an anti-Israel shirt the liberals would be freaking out, but seeing it's pro-Israel they think discrimination is OK.

Indeed. And anyone wearing a pro-Palestinian T-shirt should have their food paid for by the EU but the food sent to Sula Arafat's apartmnent in Paris.
