(Yahoo)   Huff Post angrily insists Mitt Romney is unfit for the White House because his dog poops and eBay sells old Playboys. After that the article gets a little weird. Bonus: Unclosed italic tag in article for more reading pleasure   (news.yahoo.com) divider line

There's no hate like dog poop hate.

Mitt Romney is unfit because he has promised to double the size of Gitmo and use torture. He's unfit because Massachusetts hates him. I would not trust any Presidential candidate whose former constituents would not elect again.

/Bonus for calling the son of a former governor who also ran for president a "non-Washington guy."

Do you really have to go to school to be a reporter these days?

Because his dog poops?

Well.

THAT is certainly quickly glossing over a rather interesting topic.

Hell, you don't even have to know what you're talking about to be a reporter these days.

Heh, that was the most incoherent Huffington Post article I've ever read.

It was so bad, I almost thought it was a troll. Or someone's attempt to purposely make a bad article.

Mitt Romney doesn't like pornography. But eBay sells it! Therefore, Mitt Romney is dumb...

wow.. article has a lot of paranoia and crazy in it. lol

Not to dismiss your funny, but it was an Op/Ed piece

helix400: Mitt Romney doesn't like pornography. But eBay sells it! Therefore, Mitt Romney is dumb.

I think the opinion piece was ridiculing Romney's hipocracy by his condemning porn, but gladly taking the money from corporations that profit from it.

I am now dumber from reading that article.

I would never strap my dog to the roof of my car for a 12 hour tour. How about you?

Which he is well-known for, considering he owns a good amount of the Marriott, which profits a lot off of porn.

scseth I think the opinion piece was ridiculing Romney's hipocracy by his condemning porn, but gladly taking the money from corporations that profit from it.

But it's so hard to tell what the author meant, because it rambles and jumps to a new topic every sentence. For example, the last paragraph (and especially the last sentence) is comedy gold:

"I really like the idea that there was a precise date when everything went seriously to hell. Justice Stewart only recognized obscenity when he saw it. Meg Whitman, Mitt Romney's National Finance Chair, knows the whole country turned into a filthy toilet it 1980."

Why not? He even rigged a windscreen. Dog would have been more comfortable and better protected than the average motorcycle rider. Provided the dog carrier was well secured, they made appropriate rest stops (which may be a problem in this case, the dog apparently crapped on the way), and the weather wasn't atrocious, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

'Course I'm from a rural area, unsecured dogs in the back of a pickup truck are par for the course around here.

According to the Washington Post, he didn't know how much money Marriott made from in-room porn, even though he was chairman of their audit committee.
(dramatic space)
For nine years.

So what?

I know that the article is a bit incoherent, but the message wasnt that hard to follow.

Romney doesn't like porn (and doesnt want you to like porn either). Marriott makes money off porn. Marriott has been a major campaign contributor of Romney's. Romney has served on an Marriott's auditing committee for 9 years.

It seems hard to believe that Romney wouldn't understand that Marriott makes money off of in-room porn. But still takes their money just the same.

Mitt Romney is pretty much awful - he's too socialist to be a Republican (new window) and too "enforce moral values by suppressing free speech" (new window) to be a Democrat. How could anybody like this guy?

FlashLV: The people are Huffington Post are starting to be as bad as the people at KOS. What are they afraid of exactly?

Huffington Post is more like Drudge than Kos. Half of the content is breathless celebrity gossip, the other half is breathless partisan gossip. What makes Huffington Post uniquely worse than Drudge is the unbearable amalgamation of those things - celebrities writing breathless partisan gossip. Does anyone really give a shiat what Corey Feldman thinks about extraordinary rendition?

Also, Ariana Huffington's voice makes me want to claw my face off.

Anyone who straps their family dog to the top of their vehicle for a cross-country drive is a total freaking idiot. If nothing else, it shows a complete lack of common sense and judgment.

Oh wait, those are Republican presidential requirements.

Carry on.

2007-08-01 2:34:41 PM
The writer tries a little too hard to be funny. Here is the article I would have written:

It seems that what Mitt Romney says is not always in step with what he does.

Mitt Romney hired the head of Ebay, a company which sells violent and sexual products that Romney supposedly opposes. In addition, Romney used to be on the board of Marriott, which profits from ponographic film rentals.

The End

choice and consequence: Course I'm from a rural area, unsecured dogs in the back of a pickup truck are par for the course around here.

Yea. They put them in the bed of the pickup truck. Not on the roof. Riding on the roof is substantially different from riding in the bed.

Nobody with any common sense would do something that ridiculous. I don't care what you think of Romney as a politician, strapping an animal to the roof of a car at all is stupid. Strapping it to the roof of the car for a cross-country trip is just plain sick.

It's hardly as if he tied the dog to the roof. The dog was in a carrier, protected from the wind. What's the big deal? No different from putting a dog in a carrier and putting the carrier in an airplane's pressurized luggage hold.

Mitt Romney is not Jesus Christ. But how 'bout we quit pretending he's Old Scratch himself because his dog got sick in a dog carrier?

I think the word article encompasses all pieces written in a paper, both opinion and actual stories. The fact that it's an opinion article in a known biased source makes the content even more expected.

MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: No different from putting a dog in a carrier and putting the carrier in an airplane's pressurized luggage hold.

Aside from the fact that an airplane's enclosed luggage hold is not the roof a car...

But how 'bout we quit pretending he's Old Scratch himself because his dog got sick in a dog carrier?

How "'bout" we admit that anybody who would strap a living animal to the roof of a car at all, much less for a cross-country trip, has shown a profound lack of judgement?

Strapping animals to the roofs cars is a profoundly stupid thing to do. Inventing ridiculous dichotomies involving "Jesus Christ" and whatever the hell "Old Scratch" is doesn't change that fact.

Nobody is saying that he should be forever condemned beyond retribution for it, but the fact remains that the behavior showed a profound lack of decency and common sense. If presidential candidates do something that shows a profound lack of decency and common sense, that should be one of the many things you consider when evaluating their fitness for the presidency.

If you do something stupid, and you run for president, it's not unfair that people should consider what stupid thing you did when evaluating you. Strapping a dog to the roof of a car for a cross-country trip is not just stupid, it's stupid in a way that few other people generally accomplish. That says a lot to me about his character and his common sense.

How "'bout" we admit that anybody who would strap a living animal to the roof of a car at all, much less for a cross-country trip, has shown a profound lack of judgement?

Pardon me, but this is the second time I have pointed out that he didn't strap an animal to the roof of a car. He strapped a dog carrier to the roof of a car. And as established, the animal inside was shielded from wind, so given that the weather was mild (and it was), I think it's rather grasping at straws to make an issue of it. Even his harshest detractors aren't trying to pretend he broke any laws.

But hey, if you want the way a candidate transports a pet to determine your vote, don't let me rain on your reality.

Dude, any guy that's going to put a dog in a cage and strap the cage on top of the roof and drive across the country with the dog on top (even with a wind screen) is just not my idea of an animal lover. And we Americans do like our Presidents to be animal lovers.

And it's not like this is the only problem I have with Romney. Even I didn't know this about him, there's plenty of other reasons not to like him.

Some of you have said that Romney is a hypocrite because he disapproves of pornography but makes money from an institution that sells porn.

Think about the two alternatives:

If he tried to use his position within the institution to eliminate the sale of pornography from Mariott then two things would happen. First, people would condemn him for trying to force his beliefs on others. Second, people would say he's not doing his fiduciary duty to Mariott.

He could just step out of every buisness that is in any way connected to making money from porn. However, the whole reason that he doesn't approve of porn is that he's a Christain. If anything, one clear teaching of Christianity is that the incorrect response to sin is to withdraw from the secular world and shun it.

I'm not saying he's spotless, I'm just saying that people would find fault with him no matter what he tries to do. The only elegant solution I can see for him is to take whatever of his cut comes from that revenue and either reject it or donate it.
