GODAMN YOU WOMEN!! how come you can't orgasm in under 5 minutes like us men, I missed out on a great movie because of that!! Grrrr....defenetly can't trust something that bleeds for 6 days and doesn't die.

Thegrue: Unfortunately, i have to agree w/ ShaneM. The juice filled alien thing is slowly becoming a pet peeve of mine. Watch the movie again and it should be clear they're NOT aliens (and yes, I only had to go once to get it). I'll try not to call anyone stupid over this one though.

The problem with A.I. isn't the ending, it's that the flow of the movie didn't lead us to the ending. That is what Speilberg farked up.

Still a beautiful movie. I'm actually hoping that a "directors cut" clears some of the flow up.

I haven't seen Memento yet, but it is in my rental queue and I should see it shortly after it is released on DVD. I might catch The Princess and the Warrior this weekend though.

I really really liked AI.. it brought up a lot of things most movies don't in one hit.. religion, death, technology, playing god.. it made me wonder, what would i do if i lost a child? where will we be in 50 years? its a thought provoker more than anything else.. and its good eye candy as well. I'd see it again at the theaters in a heartbeat. Assuming I get some time :)

Someone mentioned sequels, well I just thought I'd say:

American Pie 2

Hey Mon!

Just like saying that.

Hey Mon,

Do you know Jenna?

I love how when a movie bombs the producers BLAME the fans for, not wanting to see "challenging films." Give me a BREAK! Any idiot knows that people want to see a movie that entertains them. Some people are entertained by being challenged, some aren't. Box office numbers do not indicate if a movie is good or bad, but they do tell us if it was entertaining, if only to the common denominator. This movie was OBVIOUSLY not entrtaining to most people for that reason.

Now that said, I think it was a bad movie for so many reasons that I won't go intot them. As for the person who said that if you did not realize that those critters at the end were robots you are some kind of moron I have to disagree. They LOOKED a lot like thos aliens from Close Encounters that that was my first impression, even though it made little sense. I think that whoever made the movie is resonsible for communicating any non-obviouse but key plot elements. It is at least PARTIALLY Speilburgs fault that many people did not get this.

AI was a great movie, but it wasn't one to see for enjoyment.
Dutch: where do you live where people laugh out loud during the whole ending sequence?
This movie raised a lot of profound questions in my mind at least...most especially "When does a machine stop being a machine and start being human?" I'm one who believes that it's impossible to program real human thinking and love into a computer, that they're limited to deduction, but if I'm proved wrong, would it be murder to deactivate them? Should they be given civil rights? Are humans humans because of their brains, or their bodies?

spielberg sucks fat cock!!
2001-07-19 09:01:06 PM
Zagloba: I live in San Diego, CA and people laughed their ASSES off during the entire ending sequence. Once the Damn British Robot Aliens showed up, LAUGHTER. Until the end.
2001-07-19 09:10:07 PM
Maybe it failed cos it sucks. Just a thought.
2001-07-19 09:14:12 PM
Humans are humans because of their consciousness...bodies or otherwise.
2001-07-19 09:33:12 PM
Zagloba: Saw it at Showcase Cinemas in Louisville, KY. What does that have to do with anything, though?

Welcome to the new Hollywood. If a movie is crap, blame the audience and accuse them of not being able to "figure it out". Puhleez.

ellen burstyn was the best thing about requiem for a dream, and it had a lot to like.

as for a.i.- it wasn't very good. it had some great moments that made me want to like it, but as a whole movie it was very flawed. there was no real attempt to make the three parts of the film flow together. the ending (or group of endings that made up the last part of the film) were horrible, boring and didn't make much sense. i have no problem with what spielberg did to the film. he is good with actors, and kubrick could never do something like the scene where david is left in the woods. i don't think it would have been better if kubrick had done it, just different.
what pissed me off, is that it feels like they had no idea what to do with this movie. kubrick spent forever trying to get it right, before passing it over to spielberg. i dodn't think he would ever have done it on his own. i don't think he liked the ending. i don't think spielberg liked it much either. i get the feeling that everyone just went "we give up, it's not going to get any better then this." and decided to throw all the endings they had come up with into a very boring half hour of film, and put it out.

Nope, I don't know Jenna :) There's too many girls around that look like her (to me anyways) to really be able to notice her anyways.. never see any guys in suits (or hawaiian shirts or whatever them secret service boys wear) following a girl around anyways :)
2001-07-19 10:06:42 PM
Just wondering. Thanks. Are you a professor, employee, student?
2001-07-19 10:24:12 PM
To all Farker's: Your refusal to fully enjoy A.I. is in violation of DMCA! The license agreement posted under the 6th seat on 13th row under the wadded up bubble gum clearly states that you must enjoy the film and proclaim it a "cinematic triumph" and "fun for the entire family". Please wait calmly at your computer terminal - the FBI will be along to collect you shortly.
2001-07-19 10:32:42 PM
Cool I never saw the film, nor did I denigrate it, per se. Ha ha escaped the FBI--again!
2001-07-19 10:45:01 PM
ahem. Getting back to A.I......

*possible conceptual spoilers warning*

The beings at the end of the movie are alien mechas. They are exploring the frozen Earth to learn of humanity. Had they been native mechas, there would have been no need to research humanity; their memory systems would have kept all necessary records. Had they been alien orgas, they could not have accessed David's memories without an interface. In addition, the height and willowiness and abilities indicate mechanical origins, mere flesh and blood (or whatever alien equivalent) unable to do be molded this way or exhibit such talents.

So, we have one sad truth. Two different humanities were unable to survive; their only offsprings their machines.

We have one hopeful truth. The two different mechanities search after their progenitors' best, most "human" qualities.

its cuz Haley Joel Asshole is in it
2001-07-19 11:56:45 PM
StickNinja: I thought his name was Haley Joel Hazmat or something like that. To quote from Satirewire.

they're everywhere,
and most don't even know they're dead!"

"AI" was OK, but it's no "Weekend at Bernie's". Now THERE'S a movie that challenges the intellect.
2001-07-20 08:44:06 AM
Weekend at Bernies challenged me to not open up a vein after twenty minutes.
2001-07-20 12:37:26 PM
Don't forget the immortal "Popeye", starring Robin Williams. Forget the popcorn, I have sepaku (harikari)! Pass me the short sword, puhleese.
2001-07-20 09:58:37 PM
nonono.... Popeye doesnt hold a candle to "Good Burger"
2001-07-20 10:32:54 PM

My wife made me watch 'For the Boys' with Bette Midler. Now that's what I call a challenge.
