So, you're saying it is about where it was when Clinton left office?

2007-07-31 11:38:50 AM
Six years ago was 2001. So, it's still not as high as during the Clinton administration?

Yeah, subby, something to be really proud of.

eqtworld: So, you're saying it is about where it was when Clinton left office?

Maybe it's getting back to pre 9/11 levels.

lunchinlewis: Maybe it's getting back to pre 9/11 levels.

According to the numbers
(new window), the fall started immediately after the 2000 election, well before 9/11.

Ooh, I blame Bush for people hoping that things will get better in a little while!

2007-07-31 11:46:33 AM
it is about where it was when Clinton left office?

When he left office it was around 130-140. Now it'shiatting 112 and people are creaming their jeans

What's the point of digging? I think I'll just blame Bush for all the treacherous sh*t he does.

2007-07-31 11:56:46 AM
I for one am more than happy to praise the f*cking moron if he can actually get things back to where they were before he starting making decisions. That would be one heck of a job.

John Paul Jones: According to the numbers (new window), the fall started immediately after the 2000 election, well before 9/11.

Well it was just a guess. But if I'm interpolating the charts right, it is pretty close to the late summer 2001 levels.

I'll blame talk radio.

screw good news! I'm freaking tired of feeling completely at ease with our economy!!! god damn can I get some kind of shiat going down?

You'd think a guy could get some bad news these days. I heard today that things in Iraq are getting better!?!?!?

Somebody go swipe a white girl so we can all live in horror for a week!!! And she better not end up alive and working at White Castle!!!

/sarcasm
//buy wal-mart!!!

I would normally give the President some credit for running the government, but running it into the ground doesn't count.

Consumer confidence surveys are largely crap, and seem to have little predictive power as to consumer spending. This is also true when consumers say they are NOT confident - they keep spending, anyway.

2007-07-31 1:06:48 PM
Bush is a f#cking tool. I can't believe you voted for him. Especially the second time, you are branded an idiot for life. Community service for stupidity please. It probably is Bush's fault.

2007-07-31 1:07:10 PM
But, Reagan?!

2007-07-31 1:07:37 PM
My confidence in consumers is at a personal 6 year high. I had more faith in them back in the Clinton Administration with that whole intarweb bubble thing. You know the one with all the tubes. They'd buy anything back then.

/more faith in consumers than the government

Americans shrugged off falling home prices to focus on a healthy jobs market, instead.

Uh huh...

Reagan gave amnesty to 3 of the 9/11 terrorists.

Bush will give the next wave amnesty, since Congress won't pass his immigration bill.

Seriously...There's no need to blame him for anything more than being an embarassment to the everything this nation holds in esteem.

The man farked up so hardcore it's hard NOT to blame him for everything.

How about you blame him and his cronies for almost 4000 dead Americans? That should be enough to have him charged with treason, putting corporate profits ahead of lives.

Obviously: I think Clinton was in office when Al Gore invented the Intartubes, too.

Actually, Gore voted to fund the research that would eventually lead to the creation of today's Internet long before Clinton was in office.

Consumer Confidence? Hey, a graph of my income over the same period looks the same! That couldn't have anything to do with consumer confidence, could it?

Good news in the economy and the war in Iraq is bad news for the Dems.

No submitter, you've got it wrong. Farkers respond quickly to good economic news. The better the news, the swifter the reaction is in these threads why the econonmy is actually bad and getting worse.

Besides, good economic news may spur optimism, and as we all know, optimism is a dangerous thing. It leads to people ignoring all the economic problems that this "good" news glosses over.

a dingo ate me baby's graph proves it.

The blame for everything can be laid squarely on the Challenger Explosion.

You care to elaborate on something that Bush is repsonsible for that has gone right, without obfuscating the facts or spinning them so hard your point flies into the next galaxy?

Sure, but how's confidence in him? Still an all-time low? Yeah, thought so.

Yeah, but it was in a lock box until the Bill Clinton years.

a dingo :

nice chart. don't forget that blip in Reagan II was funded by massive defense spending. Deficits used to created jobs until Bush/Cheney figured out how to screw it up.

Sunny Ray: Good news in the economy and the war in Iraq is bad news for the Dems.

I really don't think that any good news in Iraq at this point is going to offset the complete failure of all the current administration's plans up to now.

Day late, dollar short.

Confidence levels coming back to where they were 6 years ago is something to crow about?

This only proves the Bush regime's scare tactics aren't working any longer.

Along with hundreds of others in Congress, but Gore gets ALL of the credit for inventing it. WTF BS is that?

My consumer confidence is much higher under Bush than Clinton.
I couldn't afford a house, health care, retirement fund. Was unemployed twice, laid off twice.
I have all that under Bush. Seven years with a company that has had record growth every year (breeding industry, no pun) that gives me a 15% profit sharing. So suck it libs.

dbaggins:

Don't forget. A lot of Bush's worst guys came from the Nixon white house. The young guns that are working for Bush right now will be back in power in 20 years or so. Frightening ain't it? Imagine what kind of people would actually want to work for Gonzales or Rumsfeld or Cheney? Now imagine them in power. Yeccchhh.

Ok, ill admit I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while. I was going to respond with "consumers are idiots", but I think you bested me. You, sir, win the thread.
