(Yahoo)   The Huffington Post really, really wants Bush to pardon Libby because then we'd have to impeach Cheney. After that the article gets a bit incoherent   (news.yahoo.com) divider line

A pardon might happen, but there's no way he'll sing to Fitzgerald. Yeah, 2 1/2 years in a cushy federal white-collar prison sucks, but he's set for life now as a martyr with the die-hard Bush/Cheney crowd.

I'm sorry, but any writer who opens with Libby knows where all Cheney's bodies are buried can't expect anyone to take him seriously.

Huh? It's a figure of speech. Haven't you heard it before?

Huffington Post? Incoherent?

Paging Mr. Romero, Mr. Ric Romero...

Pass the popcorn, please.

Hey sshhhhh, don't give them ideas now!

If he's pardoned, he can't invoke the 5th.

If he can't invoke the 5th, its into jail on contempt like Susan MacDougal, unless he talks.

That's why he will not be pardoned.

I am certain everyone on all sides of the Libby-Cheney-Plame affair gets it.

Wait. Scooter, Dick and Valerie had a threeway? HAWT.

A Huffington article that becomes a bit incoherent?!?! Why I nevar~!

As a lefty, let me say that I take the Huffington Post about as seriously as NewsMax.

By the way, the conservative writer Bruce Fein makes an excellent case for impeaching Cheney, regardless of Libby's fate.

The ONLY reason to send Libby to jail during his appeal is to pressure him to sing, and the ONLY incentive to pardon him if he is forced to go to jail is to buy his silence.

Wow, this person is an idiot.

I think congress defunding the VP is actually better then impeachment.

It's probably easier to do and easier to justify.

Yeah, I liked that idea myself. I doubt it'll happen, but still.

Corvus: So you just like calling people names or do you ever state your reasoning?

The reason is obvious.

2007-06-29 2:26:23 PM
The Huffington Post really needs to go away.

2007-06-29 2:26:40 PM
Corvus: But he's not taking the 5th. He is saying he doesn't remember.

They can't put him in double jeopardy.

That's not double jeopardy. If he continues to lie about things now they are new crimes that merely share some evidence with the old crimes. Pardons don't get you out of this trap, in fact as pointed out they make it worse because a pardon, especially a blanket pardon, would mean you'd have no 5th Amendment right anymore for those incidents

"The reason is obvious.

i.e., it's beneath me to explain anything so any poor communication on my part is your fault. Typical pseudo-conservative "reasoning.".

But Clinton got a BJ in the Oval Office.

It implies wrongdoing. These lefty writers need to go back to UFO watching.

Conservatives are evil and Liberals are gay!!!

/know who I'd have my money on

Hooray for broadly attacking the entirety of a political party because of an irrelevant and completely apolitical argument on an internet message board!

That'll learn 'em!

What I find interesting is that Fitzgerald was the prosecutor in the Marc Rich case. He may get trumped by consecutive presidents.

Yeah. There was nothing wrong with leaking Plame's name.

2007-06-29 3:26:21 PM
Yeah, right. Like Libby's appeal will actually be over and Bush will have to make a decision on it before he leaves office.

So long as Alberto(spit)Gonzales is the Attorney General of the United States of America, the case will be delayed for trivial reasons. It's only 570 days.

doyner: Yeah. There was nothing wrong with leaking Plame's name.

Which neither Libby nor Cheney did. Armitage--the guy who actually did--hasn't even been investigated.

corvus: They can't put him in double jeopardy.

It's not double jeopardy if he does it again.

Let me sum up the majority of the apologists posts up to this point:
Move along, nothing to see here.

Why does anything from Huffington Post get greenlit?

It's really left wing tinfoil hat stuff.....

Option 4: He could publish a book entitled "If I Had Outed A CIA Agent, This Is How I Would Have Done It".

2007-06-29 6:41:02 PM
The columnist has little factual basis for his opinion.

2007-06-29 8:59:21 PM
Actually, the article was quite coherent.

He's absolutely wrong--but it's at least clear why he's wrong.

2007-07-03 10:44:15 AM
Well...Bush just gave Libby the "get out of jail free card".

Anyone who still doubts Bush wasn't behind the leak can kindly STFU now.

2007-07-03 10:44:51 AM
er...WAS behind the leak.
