Can I skip the procreate and just do the fornicate thing?

2007-06-28 9:50:48 PM
Figures. It starts when I start puberty and ends when I'm almost middle aged. Another reason to think that if there is a God, He really, really hates me.

This is an interesting development not only for HIV, but for many viruses.

It will probably happen, because it's exactly the sort of treatment the pharmaceutical companies love. Expensive and chronic.

It took 3 months to get the virus out of a petri dish full of cells.

It will take 3 years and cost $50,000 a year for humans.

But you'll pay it, or you'll die.

I'll wait for the "...Still no cure for Cancer" headline submission before I post in one of these threads.

I honestly care more about a herpes cure than I do AIDS. I've turned down some easy lays before because of the herpes skank-o-meter.

2007-06-28 10:17:25 PM
There will never be a cure for AIDS, not now.. not in 10 years.. not in 100 years It is just not going to happen. There will never be a viable vaccine for AIDS thats not going to happen either.

borg

Maybe not--that's certainly possible, but there's no legitimate way to make such a definitive claim in that regard, except as trying to get on that list of "640K ought to be enough for everybody" type quotes.

We've always had a cure... but for some reason "death" isn't the preferred choice.

The day they found a cure for AIDS
Everybody took one little pill and was okay
The day they found a cure

The day they found a cure for AIDS
Everybody took one little pill and was okay
I slept with Cindy and Martha and Sue
i slept with Julie, Melissa and Kate

The day they found a cure for AIDS
Everybody took one little pill and was okay
The people who had plotted to get rid of all the gays
Admitted their guilt and then everything was fine
Everybody else said "I didn't know"
The day they found a cure

For six months
Noone went to work
They all had orgies
Morning after pills
Were sold in grocery stores
And gas stations

The day they found a cure for AIDS
Everybody took one little pill and was okay
We rented dirty movies
And ordered out for food
For three solid weeks
Everyone I met was nude
I slept with Julie, Melissa and Jake
Nobody was afraid

I dunno how much AIDS scares y'all, but I got a theory: the day they come out with a cure for AIDS, a guaranteed one-shot cure, on that day there's gonna be farking in the streets, man.

Somehow I doubt that you would see death as a cure if your son contracted AIDS.

If this is true, it's just another example of modern science defying the will of God. It's like whacking the baby Jesus in the face with a two-by-four, right there in the manger, in front of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the wise men. That's how bad it is. Now aren't you ashamed, modern science?

I'm not even going to touch that, other than to say that may be the most ridiculous statement I have ever read in my entire life.

What makes HIV so deadly, however, is its ability to insert itself into the body's cells and force those cells to produce new infection.

Isn't this true for every virus ever? Isn't this even part of the definition of a virus?

"Computers in the future may weigh no more than 1.5 tons."
-- Popular Mechanics, forecasting the relentless march of science, 1949

They seem to get a lot of flak for that statement. But the thing is, they were right, weren't they? Most computers today don't weigh more than 1.5 tons.

Exactly. What actually makes HIV so deadly is it's targeting the triggers for your immune system, causing the whole thing to fail because it won't start up.

um, herpes and the other stuff that make the peener ooze would still be out there, right?

umm how is this a breakthrough for treating any other sort of virus? unless it shares the same dna as hiv it wont do shiat for other viruses unless this enzyme is not that selective and if so then it is useless for fighting hiv as it would damage the patients actual dna too

i might be wrong though

Yeah. What makes HIV deadly isn't that it can hijack the body's cells (even cold germs can do that). What makes it deadly is that the particular type of cells it hijacks are a critical part of our immune system.

Should this be effective and a cure at some point.
Wouldn't this be the first virus that medical science has overcome and defeated?

PandaKnight: What actually makes HIV so deadly is it's targeting the triggers for your immune system

well, it's attack of CD4 certainly isn't helping anything, but a major difference between HIV and "normal" virus is that it's a . Getting the virus code into the host cell's own DNA is particularly nasty.

Also... the reverse transcriptase needed to make this happen is particularly buggy, so you are getting an abnormally-high mutation rate, that makes the disease somewhat of a moving target.

2007-06-29 2:22:30 AM
Oh, and this theoretical enzyme-treatment sounds pretty clever, though I wonder how it deals with the fact that your host cells still have a copy of the virus in their DNA - that's the nasty part to remove...

/still an interesting idea, though
