Dr.Zom: Oh yes you will.

Not me. I have thwarted politics as usual by refusing to vote.

I don't think anyone is getting fooled, but there really isn't much anyone can do about our government. It's like the two parties have a bet to see who can piss off the populace the most without starting widespread rioting.

"As the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice
Sen. Jim DeMint is a Republican from South Carolina."

That isn't quite the way I remember it.

Just do it. Please.

Man, I remember back in 1996, 97 or so. That peace & prosperity thing? Boy was I PISSED.

What amazes me is that polling is something like 80% of america is against this bill. Yet both parties are still trying to push it through.

If that's not a mandate...don't know what is.

Way to ignore your constituency...although if they get them all citizened up before the next election...

Throw'em all out of freaking office!!

/assholes
//DeMint sounds somewhat competent though

from TFA"

"As the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice [END OF ARTICLE]"

I guess DeMint is as stupid as Bush when it comes to using that phrase.

Yeah, sure, if you leave out Mexico. I bet 80% of that country is for amnesty. Anyone who wants to disenfranchise such a huge number of non-citizens must be evil!

What do you say now, Mr. Smartypants?

Snarfangel - you got me, Since I am against Illegal Immigration, I must be racist or a hate monger.

It's hard to enforce an imaginary line.

Clinton was the best Republican president America has ever seen.

Why does an increasingly left-leaning nation keep electing extreme right-wing politicians?

Hang On Voltaire: This bill will not pass.

And you're not getting your Maginot Line along the border either. Suck it.

DeMint should know, he's a fool and part of the problem. Country would be a lot better off if these southern Republicans would excise themselves from the nation.

Saiga410: Hey, I'm not looking to make it real. I think the whole issue is overblown, alarmist shizz designed to divert our attention from issues far more pressing.

Bored Horde: Clinton was the best Republican president America has ever seen.

True enough; he would at times act as such. One of the reasons that I didn't mind him so much.

How about this one:

Bush is the worst Democrat President America has ever seen.

"Why does an increasingly left-leaning nation keep electing extreme right-wing politicians?"

a) thinking the current administration is incompetent and/or criminal does NOT make you a liberal

b) because 100% of rightwing wackos are registered to vote, and show up to vote.

Why does an increasingly left-leaning nation keep electing extreme right-wing politicians?

Maybe you need to change your defintition of "increasingly left-leaning". It doesn't seem to be working the way you think it should.

cartersdad: What amazes me is that polling is something like 80% of america is against this bill. Yet both parties are still trying to push it through.

I can kind of see where congress and the Prez are coming from. We've framed the issue of border security in really extreme terms, war on terror, national security, etc. If that's really what is important to you then the answer should be clear, quit chasing the small fries and concentrate on people who are actually dangerous. The problem is that the way we've framed the issue isn't how we actually want the issue taken care of. 80% of America is more concerned with getting rid of the annoying, poor, job stealing, petty thieving, Spanish speaking Mexicans than they are with stopping terrorism. The two priorities aren't mutually exclusive, but they're damn close.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

NUU - I disagree. I think mainly we want control of the border. We don't want people coming and going as they please.

Put up the freaking wall and then we can look at the other problems.

2007-06-22 5:28:35 PM
cartersdad: I disagree. I think mainly we want control of the border. We don't want people Mexicans coming and going as they please.

Fixed that for you. We don't seem to have these concerns over our far less secure northern border. Securing our borders and controlling the Mexicans are two distinct issues. The American people want the latter, but they've cloaked it in the former. Congress is trying to accomplish the former and for whatever reason are not acknowledging that it's just a pretense for the latter.

2007-06-22 5:33:14 PM
We don't seem to have these concerns over our far less secure northern border.

We will when 10-20 million Canooks come pouring over our border.

2007-06-22 5:39:53 PM
whyarefartslumpy: We will when 10-20 million Canooks come pouring over our border.

But see that's what I mean. Congress is acting as though this is a matter of vital national security. That the Mexican boarder is an open invitation for terrorists and hard core murderers and drug dealers. So they're doing something they think will address that problem by saying to hell with the small time violators, lets focus our attention on people who are intent on actually doing real damage to this nation. The American people though are looking at this as a "we have to control the 10-20 million [racial, ethnic, or national origin slur] pouring into our country." That is a totally different issue from securing our borders and it requires a totally different treatment.

whyarefartslumpy: I don't get it.

Yes you do, you're just in denial.
