What exactly did these people do to warrant their families receiving that much cash? Your child was in the wrong place at the wrong time and a tragedy happened. That does not entitle anyone to receive $2.9 million dollars.

2007-06-19 10:13:16 PM
Obvious tag would work as well. Decency is as rare as a dollar coin nowadays. I'll buy dad a rock if he will go away.

2007-06-19 10:13:43 PM
First of all, 9/11 families shouldn't get extra money just because they had family involved int he attacks. You get whatever insurance and the job gives you, just like the rest of us.

Second, this attractive and successful African-American deserves none of it.

Isn't there a saying that one of the pleasures of heaven is watching the damned in hell or something to that effect?

I agree it's ridiculous that 9/11 victims' families got so much money. It's not like we pay millions of dollars to the family of every innocent person who is murdered or killed in a car wreck, and their lives are no less tragic. And I hear that there's been some outcry since (for example) the families of OKC bombing victims didn't get these multimillion dollar payouts. It's stupid that we value some lives more than others.

2007-06-19 10:19:27 PM
If I were on the jury, I would listen to his bullshirt, let him spend $50,000 or so on legal fees, and award him $5.00

Smartass.

I bet if they calculate the interest at the highest rate for all of the unpaid support ($30 per week for gods sake) they could award him that, then take it away and still charge him more with interest. Or hire the Gotti family to help quiet him down a bit.

/he needs to DIAF

Smooth, he owes tons of alimony, then tries to claim benefits for himself. Yeah, I think Dante is slapping his head going "Damn, I forgot a ring of hell.."

Discord_And_Strife: Too bad the OKC survivors can't get in on that gravy train...

Didn't most of the 9/11 fund come from Americans who were so shocked into donating? My share was I know. I drove past two fire trucks that day with ladders extended to make a cross and threw every penny (read dollars) I had on me at the time into a boot. And I didn't think twice about it at the time. I would have jumped into those boots to help out at the time if I could have.

Not that any other victim in this country deserves less, but more people were touched by 9/11 to give than by OKC (which doesen't make a ton of sense yet it does in some ways) or your average hooker shot on the street.

The money was paid out to families who agreed not to sue the airlines for negligence for failing to fit all of their planes with locks on their cockpit doors. When you consider the number of "air rage" incidents that occured prior to 9/11, where drunk or deranged passengers forced themselves into the cockpit, the failure of airlines to secure the cockpit doors was a prime factor that allowed 9/11 to happen.

No, not one single bit. Not even for that amount of money.

2007-06-19 10:39:06 PM
Who's the "Leon Campbell" the journalist mentions at the end of the article?

2007-06-19 10:41:21 PM
Regardless of the dollar amount, the father has as much right to the money as a deadbeat father would at his share of a FEMA 'debit card' given to a victim of Katrina.

The father is useless. He was in no way a positive influence in the young man's life. I'm amazed he was able to complete the act of procreation.

What he tried to do was wrong.

2007-06-19 10:43:23 PM
So for every person who died in Katrina, their families should be entitled to $3 million or so (yet they still live in FEMA trailers?)?

See thats just not true. Trent Lott got millions to rebuild his home within a couple of weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit. See they should have become senate leaders and they would get paid too, but they are too important for civil service, just because they don't have millions to do a campaign? No they are lazy and lucky they even got trailers. What they think this is, a socialist country?

2007-06-19 10:45:11 PM
Well im atheist, like most of fark, so i'm not too concerned with that.. but HONESTLY... noone is worth three million dollars.

2007-06-19 10:45:58 PM
I don't think they got 3 million from the govt. A lot of firms had huge private payouts for the employees lost.

And it shouldn't be hard to recognize this guy. He has to walk with a wheelbarrow to carry his balls

2007-06-19 10:46:42 PM
If I were the mother I would do a surprise Povich-Nicole Smith maneuver on his ass and claim that he never was the genetic father of the deceased kids. The look on his face would be priceless. He would never dream that one of his babies' mammas would play his own game against him. Not for chump child support either...for millions!

2007-06-19 10:46:51 PM
I'm torn on this one. I'm thinking that unless the people handing out 3mill to the survivors of victims are verifying that they had a happy relationship with the victims, there should be no problem here giving Leon his issue.

I mean, is the question: "Does this victim who left no will have living survivors? If a mom, she gets all of it, if a mom and dad- half and half". Unless there is a 'douchebag' clause, Leon should be able to score his share.
