Dumbass tag for subby. Need a "Liar" one to go along with it.

FTA:

EDWARDS: I don't know if I know what a rich person is. What I do for my health care plan is roll back the tax cuts for people who make over $200,000 a year. So $200,000 is the figure I use.

2007-06-05 4:21:43 PM
Hey submitter, people who make over $200,000/year wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. Oh, and stay off their lawn too, they don't like the way you smell.

Ah. So he's just guessing and we're supposed to be happy with that?

2007-06-05 4:38:32 PM
I love it when a bunch of rich people get together and talk about how terrible it is to be poor.

Nobody on capital hill is starving. They're not sweating out a mortgage payment and they're not living pay check to pay check hoping to make it to the end of the month with SOMETHING left in their checking account.

And they're gonna sit up there on stage and make noises about fixing our problems. I guess they'll find time to think about it in between jetsetting around to marthas vinyard and $1,000 a plate fundraisers this summer.

2007-06-05 4:39:28 PM
He does not know what a rich guy is? What, he can't look in the mirror?

2007-06-05 4:41:23 PM
Weaver95: And they're gonna sit up there on stage and make noises about fixing our problems.

Would you prefer they sat up there and said they had no interest in solving anyone's problems but their own?

While img.fark.net does describe Wolf Blitzer I think [tool] and [asshole] are better fits

2007-06-05 4:47:52 PM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: Ah. So he's just guessing and we're supposed to be happy with that?

As opposed to coming up with an arbitrary number that you and Weaver can then no doubt get pissy about?

2007-06-05 4:48:41 PM
Did he get slimed?

2007-06-05 4:52:31 PM
Would you prefer they sat up there and said they had no interest in solving anyone's problems but their own?

Yes, actually. I would appreciate the honesty.

None of the presidential hopefuls of EITHER party really connect with you and me. When do think was the last time Hillary spent time shopping for her own groceries? I'm pretty sure Giuliani hasn't had to pull a double shift to put some cash away for his summer vaction trip this year.

I knew Kerry's campaign was doomed when I saw him try to eat a philly cheesesteak. The guy looked like someone handed him a dead trout. Then he had a pained expression on his face for the rest of his photo-op.

I'm not expecting any of these guys to live the same kind of life that I lead...but I *do* find their attempts to identify with me insulting and extremely condescending.

Mordant: Hey submitter, people who make over $200,000/year wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. Oh, and stay off their lawn too, they don't like the way you smell.

exactly, the middle class retards who look out for the welfare of the rich need to STFU...Do these people really think the rich are trying to figure out what is fair or just when they are doing everything possible to duck and dodge taxes or lobbying to eliminate certain taxes?

2007-06-05 4:56:54 PM
Would you prefer they sat up there and said they had no interest in solving anyone's problems but their own?

It would be honest, at least.

You get three main kinds of politicians, the crusader/altruists, the careerists, and the aristocrats (tada!).
The altruists are True Believers, and as bad in that way as any fundamentalist fanatic. . everything is filtered through their internal bias, even when it has nothing to do with it.
The careerists are poll-watchers, baby-kissers, hand-shakers with promises of whatever will put them or keep them in office.
The aristrocrats are much like the careerists, except with a family legacy of political service, and often take on an altruist/crusader mentality to justify their continued political involvement.

2007-06-05 4:57:44 PM
Weaver95: Yes, actually. I would appreciate the honesty.

Actually, me too, if only because it'd be frickin awesome to hear the crowd gasp. But then I'd be scared, because I'd know that things had gotten so bad, they didn't even feel the need to hide it anymore.

None of the presidential hopefuls of EITHER party really connect with you and me. When do think was the last time Hillary spent time shopping for her own groceries? I'm pretty sure Giuliani hasn't had to pull a double shift to put some cash away for his summer vaction trip this year.

Dude, I know. But my point is: What do you expect them to do? You and I might find it condescending, but we're not 90% of the mouth-breathers that live here.

2007-06-05 5:01:56 PM
the middle class retards who look out for the welfare of the rich need to STFU...

I was recently interviewed by the owner of a fifty million dollar company, he makes well over $200,000 a year, eats fast food for lunch, works 16 hour days 5-6 days a week and according to friends of mine already working for him he treats his employees damn good. I'm not voting for any farkhead who wants to stick it to the guy who's put in the time and investment to create good jobs for others, just to make unmotivated cockmonkeys stuck in dead-end jobs feel better about themselves.

Make an exception for those who create employment, and doctors (why icnreas health care costs even more?), and tax the fakr out of the solo bastards works fine for me. . .

2007-06-05 5:04:42 PM
I see my typing skills have left for the day. icnreas=increase in Boo-speak.

2007-06-05 5:08:19 PM
But my point is: What do you expect them to do? You and I might find it condescending, but we're not 90% of the mouth-breathers that live here.

I just want more people to realize that neither party gives a damn about us anymore. we're just money pinatas. Every time the guys in D.C. need funding for one of their pet projects, they beat us 'till candy falls out, then expect us to thank them for the experience.

$200,000/year is not rich. It barely pays the bills in CT.

$200,000/year is not rich. It barely pays the bills in CT.

Whereas one job I looked at in the Oklahoma panhandle would have paid about $80,000, and qualified me as one of the richest people in three counties.

/would have paid for a lot of weekends elsewhere, thats for sure

Boojum2k: he makes well over $200,000 a year, eats fast food for lunch

politics be damned, anyone who makes more than 200,000 a year and eats fast food for lunch is a dumbass...

politics be damned, anyone who makes more than 200,000 a year and eats fast food for lunch is a dumbass...

Considering he's usually eating with his employees, I'll consider your judgement to be somewhat lacking.

They love jobs, but hate employers.

I don't know what that has to do with the fact that stuffing your maw with poison everyday is pretty stupid if you can afford an alternative.

I don't know what that has to do with the fact

Yeah, pretty much.

I wonder if Edwards knows what a "disingenuous asshole" is?

2007-06-05 5:41:23 PM
Is $200K "rich"? I don't thinks so - damned well off, regardless of where you work, but rich requires a few million in the bank.

/Not quite making $200k, only $300K+ in my retirement plan/not rich

Weaver95: I love it when a bunch of rich people get together and talk about how terrible it is to be poor.

"Edwards was born on June 10, 1953 to Wallace Reid Edwards and Catharine Juanita "Bobbie" Wade in Seneca, South Carolina. The family moved several times during Edwards' childhood, eventually settling in Robbins, North Carolina, where his father worked as a textile mill floor worker, eventually promoted to supervisor; his mother worked as a postal letter carrier when his father left his job. Edwards was the first person in his family to attend college."

Yeah, sounds like a silver spoon story. He became wealthy as an adult, but that doesn't mean he forgets his upbringing and can no longer relate to it.

Poverty has been Edwards' main issue in his political career. He's written a couple of books for it, written and lobbied for legislation, worked at a poverty think tank, etc. I'm not sure what your problem is with him there-- he's done more on that front than any of the other candidates from either party.

Yeah, sounds like a silver spoon story. He became wealthy as an adult, but that doesn't mean he forgets his upbringing and can no longer relate to it.

Ever heard of Dennis Kozlowski? same kind of story - born poor, worked his way up to the top...then raped and pillaged his guts out once he got to the top of the corporate heap.

I'm not sure what your problem is with him there-- he's done more on that front than any of the other candidates from either party.

My 'problem' is that every time someone in a $2000 suit and tie starts talking about 'solving poverty', they always want to do it with my money.

I knew Kerry's campaign was doomed when I saw him try to eat a philly cheesesteak. The guy looked like someone handed him a dead trout. Then he had a pained expression on his face for the rest of his photo-op.

Oh God, I remember that. The guy actually ordered a cheeseteak hoagie. The thing had lettuce and provolone on it, for christ sakes.

I remember thinking that he had to fire his advance team. Philadelphia is known for one thing anymore, and that's cheesesteaks. Any nationally televised sporting event or program focusing on philly cuts to a guy making cheesesteaks before just about every commercial.

How can they not have a person checking out the proper way to eat one? There are (sadly) probably thousands of people who wouldn't vote for him based on that one picture alone.

Mordant: Hey submitter, people who make over $200,000/year wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. Oh, and stay off their lawn too, they don't like the way you smell.

Nothing like a little class warfare.

Just because someone earns over $200,000/year does not make one a bad person, just as someone who earns less than $30,000/year isn't a bad person either.

Oh God, I remember that. The guy actually ordered a cheeseteak hoagie. The thing had lettuce and provolone on it, for christ sakes.

if memory serves, it was even worse: kerry ordered it with swiss.

he might of well just worn a dallas cowboys sweatshirt while eating.

So, we are still discussing the Dem debate on Sunday? Is that why there isnt an open thread for the Pub debate going on right now?

On topic, Edwards did answer the question, didnt say IDK. Why was this even greenlit?

IStateTheObvious: Is that why there isnt an open thread for the Pub debate going on right now?

We're doing one on TF, but its not green -- sorry.

I just hope that all the republican candidates get their food stamps this month.

2007-06-05 8:40:49 PM
So, Pubs have to pay to discuss their party, Dems get it for free? Ooook...I'm sure the Mods realize that does look a bit biased on their part. Not saying they are biased, as they do greenlight some right wing trolls from time to time...but it still looks bad.

Weaver95: money pinatas

I punched myself in the gut and all I got back was some corn.

2007-06-05 8:49:03 PM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: Ah. So he's just guessing and we're supposed to be happy with that?

Without asking what area of the country you are in the flat number is kind of pointless.

I could live like a king on 100k per year in a mid size midwestern city but that amount of money wont even get me in the door in NY or CA.

Then vote for the crooks that only want to take your money away, not the ones that want to take your money and your rights away.

2007-06-05 9:02:00 PM
Its not how much you make, its how much you spend.
If your not makeinging it on 200k a year.. your doing something wrong.
Yes cost of liveing in an area is a factor, but I dont know anyplace in the usa where you cant feed a family of 4 on 200k.
Rember folks, Live below your means an you will have a lot less money stress.

how do you define rich anyway?
as a mater of wealth I guess I'd put it as that point where you no longer have to work and can provide for yourself and loved ones to live comfortably.

2007-06-05 9:11:50 PM
Hey PorkPies, I'll define rich for ya -(better listen now):
When you're a congressman/senator, who can spout bullshiat while pretending to care about poor/middle class whitey/blacky, WHILE you are getting your kickbacks from the lobbyists, and you had a 7 figure bank/investment account prior to entering office, but you lied through your teeth to gain the seat you hold, and yet you still claim to know what the 'unwashed masses' need.

Then, you're rich. And a filthy pig.

Mcavity

how do you define rich anyway?

That just shifts the problem to the definition of "comfortable". Some people would consider themselves impoverished if they couldn't jet off to France for the summer, while others would consider themselves wealthy if they could afford to keep their kids fed and clothed while saving for them to get the collage education that they didn't have. I'd say $200,000/yr is not just "rich" but "farking loaded".
