Zooming out on the picture and rotating it around, still can't figure out what that's supposed to actually be.

It's not a streetlight cause there's one just to the right of it.

It's an optical artifact from the position of the sun and the equipment used to create the panorama.

Move down the street... it follow you until you get under the overpass, then re-appears.

Anybody have a picture of what the Google vehicle looks like that captures these images?

Here's a few pics. It's actually a TeleAtlas vehicle, the company that sells the data to Google.

It looks like some kind of intergalactic space-laser to me. The "ET" is just the smoke trail from it cutting our precious Earth in twain. You might want to pack your bags for Mars.
