At the risk of sounding like a suck-up, this is a pretty decent interview - Drew makes some real very good points about the mass media ... and how they provide tons of fodder for ... Fark!

2007-05-23 11:48:19 AM
I forgot what I came here to say.

2007-05-23 11:49:06 AM
You ever wonder if news sites try to get stories on Fark so they can boost their viewers? Y'know, as a way to garner advertising by saying, "Look, my story about retarded goldfish got 23,457 hits and now there are photos on it with captions all over the web". I think about that sometimes.

/does not think often

2007-05-23 11:49:23 AM
who cares?

2007-05-23 11:50:04 AM
How does running a website with a bunch of links qualify you to talk about what's wrong with the media?

2007-05-23 11:51:23 AM
Yay for Drew!

/still waiting for that Big Sack of White Castles...
//still waiting...
///and still waiting
////the slashies are getting hungry...

L.B. Jeffries ..but who are the reporters that read fark and farkalikes and say "Ooooh, that looks like a good story for our paper!"

2007-05-23 11:51:52 AM
all ive got to ask is, what the farks this gotta do with a squirrel's nutsack?

2007-05-23 11:51:52 AM
Drew's really turned this web thing into an actual business. I am sure his father was shaking his head when Drew said, "...but dad, I'm gonna be a webmaster!"

Fark's been getting alot of airplay lately. Good for Drew.

2007-05-23 11:52:30 AM
You're the best blog ever, Fark.com. (see URL above)

Well... you're going to his website; he's not going to your.

Jesus Christ - God of War: Fark's been getting alot of airplay lately. Good for Drew.

BRING BACK TEH BOOBIES

that is all.

2007-05-23 11:54:37 AM
Did they ask him why he's sanitized the site for advertisers to the point of removing the squirrel that started it all?

2007-05-23 11:55:14 AM
If it weren't for the 'crap news,' Drew would have to work a real job, say like being a web designer.

2007-05-23 11:55:36 AM
JRHoward

He is a product of the very thing that he complains about.

2007-05-23 11:57:36 AM
Speaker2Animals Well... you're going to his website; he's not going to your

Ok, so how does me coming to his website with a bunch of links qualify him to talk about what's wrong with the media?

2007-05-23 11:57:54 AM
superoogie: sanitized the site for advertisers to the point of removing the squirrel that started it all?

word has it you can't even post the 'free cat' picture =(

/fark didn't get great by being milquetoast

frontbutt:

And, let's not forget...Drew is also generous enough to give all of us Farkers ample opportunity to poke fun at the very things he complains about.

StrikitRich: If it weren't for the 'crap news,' Drew would have to work a real job, say like being a web designer.

From what I am to believe, he's not even very good at that.

/I wonder if the redesign was his idea...

Wait....
So is running an interview from a guy who runs a website (who is joining the trend of writing a book) news?

It's not boobs, its Fark.com

Which gets edited and deleted at will to make sure the advertiser money is secure.

2007-05-23 12:01:41 PM
That was a pretty good read, but, yeah, I'd like to see more boobies allowed back on Fark.

All ad-supported sites love to have a 'fark-spike'

if you have a leaderboard and a rectangle and are charging a rough cpm of 10 and 15 respectively, every 1000 views=25.00
23,457*25/1000= 586.43 Free money!
and increased Unique users per month which helps them up prices.

You consider this "generous"? Ohhh, I feel so blessed. :)

A book about people promoting crap news written by a person that has made a living from the very crap news that he considers as bad journalism.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

No, no. As in, on a slow news day when no one is reading the news story about a cat eating its owner, the webmasters submits it to Fark and boosts his ratings.

It's just a conspiracy theory. I used to think the mods only approved headlines of new farkers to try and get them to sign up for Total Fark accounts. But then, y'know, I realized that was stupid.

/or is it?

2007-05-23 12:05:04 PM
Drew's in ur media, uh...

yeah. got nothing.

good interview, though.

Seriously Drew, you just can't erase this stuff from the FARQ.
Never forget where you come from.

I LOVE Drew's "Come Hither" look.

[image from cbsnews.com too old to be available]

It totally hides the bald spots.

i can't think of any three letter words that fit the new newscrap.

HAHAHA Drew went to GlamourShots

2007-05-23 12:18:39 PM
Decent interview, I must say. But yeah, I agree that this isn't the same Fark anymore. No, not just the redesign. Just not as, I don't know, edgy I guess.

2007-05-23 12:20:47 PM
Drew:
not waste time discussing drunk Germans getting arrested driving down the street in motorized wheelchairs.

Sure...leave me hanging already...geeesh!

2007-05-23 12:21:47 PM
I love it when people question someone's qualifications to voice an opinion.

Where does one go to get this coveted title? Was it "Qualifying to Speak on Issues 101" in college? I must have slept through that.

Here's a question: how does posting comments on Fark qualify you to question the qualifications of another human being?

Maybe we should all keep our thoughts to ourselves until someone tells us we are qualified to talk about the.

Farking idiot.

How does running a website with a bunch of links qualify you to talk about what's wrong with the media?

The same way Gaius Plinius Secundus' perspective on vulcanology is important.

2007-05-23 12:27:29 PM
I'm qualified to question the qualifications of another human being by the fact that I'm a human being.

Drew's qualified to voice his opinion on the media because he is part of the media.

Drew and I are both qualified to give valid opinions on beer because we both drink it.

Life is so simple.

JRHoward: Ok, so how does me coming to his website with a bunch of links qualify him to talk about what's wrong with the media?

It doesn't, but lots of people are given platforms to voice their opinions even though there's no good reason. Me? I listen to what Jarod from Subway has to say about geopolitics.

2007-05-23 12:28:30 PM
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

i suppose it's more interesting than, say...Perez Hilton...

except for the hair and the total lack of guyliner

other than that...yeah....zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

a whore is a whore is a whore

JRHoward: How does running a website with a bunch of links qualify you to talk about what's wrong with the media?

Point out to me where he claims to be "qualified" to do anything.

He wrote a book, it touched a nerve with some people, which generates interest, which results in interviews like this one. Duh.

You can't be "The Most Trusted Name in News" and run lead stories on tattooed fish or musical condoms.

QFT

2007-05-23 12:33:41 PM
Drew:

Why are you commenting on what news should be? Doesn't this site specialize, glorify, and send traffic to the "Not News" articles?

I just find it ironic. His products are a part of the very same crap media that they admonish. Even more so they are worse offenders because they perpetuate the trend.

We're not allowed to see dead cats here, now?

I, for one, am disturbed by this censorship

/though you prolly won't see this...

I don't give a tin shiat what Drew thinks about this or that, but he has every right in the world to speak his mind.

That's all there is to it.
