The WORST part is, the oaks have been playing it for the amusement of the trees... but the maples really don't like it (yet the oaks ignore their pleas!)

submitter: columist blames it on the publics' poor taste.

What does the guy who wrote the column blame it on?
2007-05-09 04:40:27 PM
84,000? So every Rush fan bought one. What are they complaining about?
2007-05-09 04:41:46 PM
I am a female, and also younger than 30. I don't get the headline. Can someone explain?
2007-05-09 04:42:30 PM
Me and the supervisor were listening to Rush about 5 seconds before I read this article and I could only think why is this columnist such a flaming biatch?
2007-05-09 04:43:01 PM
And the men who hold high places must be the ones to start to mould a new reality

No love for Rush from the media - never has been and never will be.

You know, I don't think this article has been linked enough today...One or two more times should do it.
2007-05-09 04:43:05 PM
Someone tell the columnist 84.000 in first week sales isn't bad. Works out to gold status in six weeks. Which is way more than most albms ever sell.
2007-05-09 04:43:28 PM
What is he going to sing about? Politics and painkillers? Actually that sounds like a good album title. Go for it fat guy!
2007-05-09 04:43:32 PM
Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.

A bunch of published opinions about the quality of music is asinine. If you enjoy listening to music, then do so.
2007-05-09 04:43:44 PM
Adman12: Except for the "falsetto" part, you've almost got to wonder if this guy is thinking of another band entirely, or perhaps an amalgam of several bands that made him cover his ears and wince when he was a nerdy youth.

Yet another too cool for school critic.

Rush still exists?

I was a huge fan of theirs when I was about 12-15 and had every album up to Power Windows, when the synth heaviness was getting to be too much. But that was in 1985.

They must be dinosaurs by now.

Oh well, you can't get something for nothing.
2007-05-09 04:45:04 PM
Blah blah blah, "So what do you listen to, Mr. Bigshot reviewer," etc etc.

Truthfully, about the last album I really liked from them was either "Counterparts" or "Test for Echo." Ever since then, I haven't heard anything from them I've really cared for all that much.

I did get to see them in concert that one year where they went all the way through 2112, from start to finish (late 90's?). Never have attended another concert of theirs since then, as I think that was about as good as it would ever get.
2007-05-09 04:45:12 PM
The album was obviously released in order to train the next generation of Space Invaders players, so we will be sufficiently defended in the next large scale assault.
2007-05-09 04:45:19 PM
I don't understand that Tom Sawyer song.

I began the day with a friendly voice, a companion unobstrusive... and then I read this assclowns comments.

I don't believe in destiny, or the guiding hand of fate
I don't believe in forever, or love as a mystical state
I don't believe in the stars or the planets, or angels watching from above
But I believe that's a hell of a headline, even if this last line doesn't really rhyme
2007-05-09 04:46:21 PM
If you hadn't heard about the new album until today, it must have been cruising under your radar.

/And I worry about you

All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted.
Not so coldly charted
It's really just a question of your honesty, yeah,
Your honesty.
One likes to believe in the freedom of music,
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity.

FarkinHostile, request received and complied with. I was getting tired of seeing it there anyway. :)

I see them every year. I just heart Rush

Rush is back. The big hair, fake falsetto heavy metal group that made the 1980s so irrelevant musically blah blah blah...

This asshat knows nothing about Rush.

I spent my lunch hour today listening to Snakes and Arrows. On first listen, I like it better than I did Vapor Trails on first listen, but that one has certainly grown on me. If this does the same, it's another great album.

I blame it on the singer sounding like an 120 year old woman morphed with a banshee.

TFA: heavy metal group that made the 1980s so irrelevant

Where to start, where to start...
* Not heavy metal
* Not from the 1980s
* 1980s music was some of the best

But I'm sure all that was covered

Rush is one of those bands that everybody tells me I should enjoy. Then, I put on an album and man they suck.

char_boy: They must be dinosaurs by now.

They've dropped the synths and rock as good as ever. Funny thing is they put on more of a show now than they did say 20 years ago. They move around like teenagers not guys who've had their band together for 30 years.
2007-05-09 04:51:24 PM
As a side note, I heard a sample of the new GNR album that's been in production for the last 15 years this morning on the radio. Holy crap it was terrible.
