(Yahoo)   Reporter asks Obama about his favorite TV show. Obama replies that he doesn't really watch much TV. This is a big problem for the Huffington Post   (news.yahoo.com) divider line

FTA: Pop culture unites us. Pop culture divides us. Most importantly, it gives us a reading on the candidate that position papers never will...

Here's what Sen. Obama answered: "Other than the U.S. Senate on C-SPAN? I don't watch them too often."...

...I'm a rabid American Idol fan, and now, I just might look at Mitt Romney a little differently because we share this show in common; it's like, wow, he likes something that I happen to be passionate about.

Because the writer is a vapid twit. First, she is a vapid twit because she watches American Idol. Second, she is a vapid twit because she would consider voting for a candidate because he watches the same dumb show that she does.

If we want to know why the political discourse in this country has degraded into something akin to two first graders calling each other dooky heads, we need look no further that farktards like this.

2007-05-03 12:16:10 PM
Did she not see some of the other responses? Wasn't Kucinich's the same pretty much? A couple answered none.

Idiot reporter.

2007-05-03 12:27:28 PM
moran reporter.

I haver never seen a single reality show.

2007-05-03 12:47:04 PM
maudibjr:

I haver never seen a single reality show.

When I haver, well you know I'm going to be, I'm going to be the man who's havering to American Idol.

I'm six weeks back of the States, so I still get to see Haley-pants.

2007-05-03 12:54:45 PM
I want to slap the author of this article for at least two reasons.

2007-05-03 12:54:52 PM
This question is just as retarded as the one about the desert island.

2007-05-03 12:57:39 PM
I sorta agree with the reporter on this level:

I like to know my president is somewhat human. Saying "I don't watch TV" is either
a) a vain attempt to look important
b) somebody who isn't confident enough about themselves to share what they watch on TV or
C) a sign that the person is much different than the rest of the country.

You either watch TV or you don't. I doubt he watches only CSPAN. Imagine if he was doing his job more often, he wouldn't have to watch his job on TV.

2007-05-03 12:58:28 PM
So here's to him answering the question next time he's asked!

He did answer the question, you ignorant ass.

Next up: "you won't get my vote if you don't know who stuck a flute in their pussy at band camp!"

2007-05-03 12:58:40 PM
Such a loaded question. If he had answered with any specific show, then he would have been blasted for spending too much time on trivial and unimportant things.

2007-05-03 1:00:30 PM
From TFA:

UPDATE: Thank you, AsaNisMasa, I stand corrected. The question was about reality TV shows in particular. Still, he could have said something. Or he could have stood up for hungry comedy/drama writers put out of work by the reality show craze...

So HuffPo publishes a whole column on a candidate's answer to a question which gets the question wrong? What's next, a column about black people eating corpses?

2007-05-03 1:01:57 PM
Two things:

1) The reporter is an idiot for expecting to be entertained

2) It isn't like he said he doesn't read the newspaper.

2007-05-03 1:05:35 PM
What the 100 hours a week on the campaign trail doesn't leave time for tv?

2007-05-03 1:09:12 PM
I would love it if he responded as follows:

"I don't watch TV. In my experience, it turns people into ignorant farktards who are more concerned with a presidential candidate's position on Sanjaya than his or her position on Iraq, healthcare, or any of the other actual meaningful issues confronting our country. Any other questions?"

2007-05-03 1:09:19 PM
The correct answer to that question is:
"Why do you people in the press ask me such inane questions? Don't you have any pride in your profession? Don't you want to use this opportunity to find out my strategies, plans, and goals should I be elected? Are you in business to educate and inform the public, or just to entertain each other in the press club?"

2007-05-03 1:09:29 PM
Had Obama said Heroes, he would have gotten an automatic vote from me. This week's episode was absolutely insane-awesome

/probably going to vote for him anyway
//Hilary saying American Idol drops her down a few notches

2007-05-03 1:09:32 PM
ne2d So HuffPo publishes a whole column on a candidate's answer to a question which gets the question wrong? What's next, a column about black people eating corpses?

I hope not. It's well-known they have the problem relatively under control.

2007-05-03 1:10:11 PM
I'm a rabid American Idol fan,

please kill yourself...

2007-05-03 1:10:47 PM
there hasn't been a goddamn thing on tv worth watching for as long as i can remember.
If my TV is even on, its on the history channel.

2007-05-03 1:11:25 PM
Sir Vanderhoot

You would automatically vote for someone who thought that Heroes was a reality show?

2007-05-03 1:12:39 PM
The writer is a farking douchebag.

You're an American Idol fan? Oooh, that's original. Anyone who votes on a candidate based on bullshiat like that, we don't need here.

He was smart not to answer the question because people are actually exactly that farking vapid as to base their opinion on what insipid TV show they watch.

2007-05-03 1:13:30 PM
Is this parody? I don't want to believe it's real.

2007-05-03 1:13:53 PM
I will only vote for Presidential candidates who recognizes the true comedic genius of Scrubs!

// Somtimes I think about that episode of Sliders were all news was tabloids, and there was an underground news exchange BBS
// Sometimes I think it's happening

2007-05-03 1:14:37 PM
This piece of junk gets published?

2007-05-03 1:15:19 PM
Eh, it's not an important question and doesn't really say much about a candidate. But it'd still been cool if he said something like the Wire, Daily Show, or Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Still I think you guys are reaching. The article seemed pretty light-hearted. Oh and btw, the reporter updated the article to reflect that the question was about reality TV shows and not TV shows in general.

2007-05-03 1:15:21 PM
I'm a rabid American Idol fan,

Vote yourself off the planet, emo-style.

/what Headso said

2007-05-03 1:16:25 PM
Newbaca

None of the shows you cited are reality shows.

2007-05-03 1:16:33 PM
"Vapid twit" is the perfect description here, Boobieser nailed it. Hell, I'll vote twice for the candidate who promises to outlaw reality TV.

2007-05-03 1:16:55 PM
Yeah, what we need is a smart and in-touch President who cares about American Idol, someone the people can love.

You know, like the guy who appeared on it this week.

/keep your television out of my news

2007-05-03 1:17:15 PM
All this tells me is that Obama, like most politicians, is more interested in amassing power and influence than watching poor entertainment. Unfortunately, that doesn't tell me whether or not he deserves that power. Probably not.

2007-05-03 1:19:11 PM
FrancoFile

QFT.

Frankly, I don't want a president that watches too much TV: I don't want a "regular guy" in the White House. Regular guys can go drive trucks, teach school, work IT, dig ditches, etc. but I want the smartest and most dedicated mother farker in America as president. Failing that, Obama should be just fine.

2007-05-03 1:23:18 PM
its actually refreshing the man doesn't watch the stupidity that is reality TV... i'm MORE likely to vote for him because it proves his IQ is over 15

2007-05-03 1:24:39 PM

You would automatically vote for someone who thought that Heroes was a reality show?

My bad. TFA said TV show, but the actual survey said reality show.

2007-05-03 1:28:28 PM
So nobody likes American Idol?...so who the fark is watching it?

2007-05-03 1:30:16 PM
Typical for Huffington Post!

2007-05-03 1:33:45 PM
"How much does bread cost" is a stupid question and how dare reporters ask that!
"What's your favorite reality TV show" is a great question and Obama blew it!

That's pretty much what she said.

2007-05-03 1:34:34 PM
So nobody likes American Idol?...so who the fark is watching it?

Nobody really likes McDonald's.

2007-05-03 1:36:00 PM
huffington post will publish anything

2007-05-03 1:36:20 PM
Nobody really likes any of the politicians either. You make a good point tomcatadam.

2007-05-03 1:45:40 PM
The writer is a twit for farks sake.

If anything Obama just won my vote (if and when) for this statement.

\kill your tv
\\bit-torrent the good stuff
\\\heroes ftw

2007-05-03 1:48:22 PM
and people are trying to sneak INTO this country...

2007-05-03 1:53:35 PM
About 5 years ago, I didn't have cable. I still don't watch TV that much, though I can safely say I do watch more TV now and have a favorite show (or three).

Still, it not that unusual for someone with a busy schedule to just pass on TV entirely.

I will use my daily wish to ask that the author of this article be magically transported to an alternate dimension where all the people who don't love American Idol have been removed, and can watch as anything remotely functional grinds to a halt.

Failing that, death by paper cuts. Thank you, God.

/God grants daily wishes, right? or was that someone else?

Are you retarded? A lot of people don't watch TV now. The man's a farking senator, he's busy doing stuff. shiat, I don't even watch TV- I get my news from Fark, /., and a couple other places. If I'm bored, I play video games.

You either watch TV or you don't. I doubt he watches only CSPAN. Imagine if he was doing his job more often, he wouldn't have to watch his job on TV.

Yep, you're retarded.

2007-05-03 2:14:45 PM
When the best criticism you have is "he smokes," "his middle name is Hussein" and "he went by the name 'Barry' in grade school," yeah, this is pretty much par for the course.

2007-05-03 2:18:40 PM
Hillary artfully dodged the Sanjaya question, so she gets my vote.

And the majority of America probably thinks that is a good article.

How is it possible for people to be so simple minded? Don't you have any concern for the world around you?????????????

cltbuilder: So nobody likes American Idol?...so who the fark is watching it?

My guess would be...people that don't pay much attention to politics threads.

One question mark is sufficient!

Oh and no, they don't have any concern for the world whatsoever.

You must be gay. Now shut up! "Ow, My Balls!" is on!

(That was from the movie "Idiocracy" btw. No offense.)
