I like how the guy manages to fit this into the article:

It reminds me of the time I was JCR President of Corpus Christi College, Oxford...

I guess that makes me a scab.

Israel produces stuff? I know they receive, they have that down pat but I didn't know they gave too.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, a BBC journalist kidnapped in Gaza by palestinian militants has likely been executed.

Ah yes, and there was a big debate here a few days ago about whether or not the BBC was biased.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have our answer.

Only about $14 billion ot the US in 2005.

If you are writing from a PC, take a good look at where your CPU was designed.

Also, if you have Zonealarm firewall, you may want to track down Checkpoint who made it.

Using IM? The first popular IM was ICQ, Mirabilis, Israel.

Ever zip a file? Ever open a TIFF file? Yup, good ol' lempel-ziv-welch algorithm...

Of course there's arms, diamonds, produce (mainly to Europe)

Interestingly enough they are not boycotting North Korea, or Sudan. A cursory search brings up no condemnations of either. Lots of Israel material, however. Seems Israel is a popular issue for them.

Mugato

the CIA factbook claims that:

Cut diamonds, high-technology equipment, and agricultural products (fruits and vegetables) are the leading exports.

also

Exports:
$42.86 billion f.o.b. (2006 est.)
Exports - commodities:
machinery and equipment, software, cut diamonds, agricultural products, chemicals, textiles and apparel

Was that at all necessary? STFU.

BBC = NUJ?

Israel can be something of a "sore subject" for some British as I guess they feel somewhat responsible for things there.

British Jewish feeling is not exactly overwhelmingly positive about what's happening with the Palestinians and Lebanon, IIRC.

I don't believe that there is the same feeling of connection to the problems in NK or Sudan...

This isn't about the BBC at all. I suggest re-resing the article. This is a union of journalists boycotting Israel.

I have to wonder how journalistically ethical it is to boycott an entire nation? Wouldn't that affect your ability to get the whole story? That would presumably prevent you from traveling there to talk to people as that would be financing the Israeli economy.

Am I wrong?

Jon Snow

absolutely. I just have to wonder if this is an ethical thing for journalists to be doing? Imagine if you boycotted America because of what's happening in Iraq. Could you accurately report the internal debate regarding Iraq if you were unable to visit America (since that would put $$ into american hands).

I'm not sure that this is ethical for a union of journalists to be doing. What's your opinion?

Hey, wtf, did my post just get pulled? I got Imus'd? Lame...

Attention Whoring. If they gave a shiat about Israel's reputation, the welfare of the Lebanese or Palestinians, they'd do more than protest Israeli goods.

It's threads like these that usually end up with me being hilariously accused of being a militant Zionist or Israel apologist.

I just try to call things like they see them.

2007-04-16 8:40:12 PM
And by more, I mean report on all of the injustices in the region.

Not just "Blimey, no Israeli goods for me! I'm principled!"

Why not protest goods from all places that you find to be unjust? Try starting with the US and China, guys.

Union leader: "I've an idea! Let's undermine any reputation our members have for journalistic integrity by announcing our political biases with an ineffectual boycott!"

Scruffy: "Second."

Motion passes.

It's pretty easy for a group of journalists to talk shiat about a group of people that doesn't have a tendency to kidnap journalists.

It's the ironic form of Godwin. You just compare Palestine to the holocaust. It's pretty easy. The best way is to post pictures of the wall or border crossings (prefererably one with barbed wire) and then post pictures of Auschwitz.

Obviously then you say "pwned," and then Jewish people will be all "zomg teh anti-Semitism."

/If you want to get really ironic say that Jews won't marry outside Judaism because think they're the master race. That'll definitely drive them up wall.

Quite the opposite.
