This from the Wall St Journal, who says it is a waste of money to have medicare pay for memographys once ayear instead of once every 2 to 5 years for women over 65. In spite of the fact that early ectetion has raised breast cancer cure rate to the high 90's % wise. I wonder if John Fund who is the director of the WSJ opinion page will get his posrate exmained every 3 to 5 years when he is a senior.

Imus is a pig, he has said awful things for years. He should have been dealt with years ago.

Subby I am sureyou are a guy, and not a very open minded guy in terms of treating woman as equals. That's OK, john fund doesn't get it either.

Oh, BTW how would you have like your Mom or sister called a whore?

Well, I wouldn't like it at all--no matter whether Don Imus said it or Ludacris did. Obama apparently doesn't mind the latter too much.

That he never had a chance at in the first place.

Imus is out of line. He's fired.

Ludacris is out of line. I don't buy his music, pay to see his films, etc.

It's about time people stopped farking finger-pointing.

Can't speak for submitter or anyone else, but it bugs me that Imus lost his job while guys like Ludacris get rich--both for saying exactly the same things.

I'm glad Imus was fired. But why is it cool for rappers and others to use such demeaning language while it's not okay for someone else?

I don't agree with Jesse Jackson very often, but I did when he said people of color need to stop using language like that themselves if they're going to complain whenever others do.

Do you go out and protest against Ludacris? That's what people did, and it got Imus fired. They spoke their mind, because like you, what they heard bothered them. If you don't DO something about it, you can't really expect any results, can you?

I just did, didn't I?

Snark off: Yes, I do. Next question, please.

Respect?!?!?? On FARK?!?!!!

Seriously--thanks. I agree with Obama that comments like Imus' demean women and contribute to all sorts of nasty things in our culture. Where I part ways with him is that when it was politically expedient he was all chummy with Ludacris and Nappy Roots and so on when they spew more of that stuff in a week than Imus has in his whole life.

MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: I'm glad Imus was fired. But why is it cool for rappers and others to use such demeaning language while it's not okay for someone else?

The point is context. Rap songs are basically stories, told in the language of the community they come from. When they talk about a ho, they are talking about a certain type of woman in their hood, not a direct attack on a certain person. If Ludacris writes a rap called "Condi Rice is a Nappy Headed Ho", then the argument might hold water. Imus directed his poor attempt at humor at specific young students. It's all in the context of the comments.

I think we should appreciate this sudden fascination with rap lyrics and let the new little champions run with it. It may be an issue they didn't give a flying fark about last week, and will probably have been forgotten about as soon as the next scandal needs to be defended... but for now if they really want to address the matter and do some good then let's encourage them.

Ah. So when I hear this from Ludacris...

Ho (Ho)
You'z a Ho, (Ho)
You'z a Ho, I said that you'z a Ho (Ho)
You'z a Ho, (Ho)

You'z a Ho, (Ho)
You'z a Ho, I said that you'z a Ho (Ho)

You doing Ho activities
With Ho tendencies
Hos are your friends,
Hos are your enemies

...I just need to keep in mind that he's a troubadour--a modern-day Bob Dylan? And that he's not contributing to the objectification of women or the general crudity of modern culture?

Good ol' context. What would we do without it?

You realize that Imus and Ludacris have differnt jobs, right?

A Male Stripper gets paid to dance around to music and take his clothes off. If he did that at his job, he would not be fired. Conversely, If I stood up on my desk right now and started dancing to music and taking my clothes off, I would be fired.

There's your answer.

please, because rappers are never known to start beefs with one another....

That said, all the "Where's the outrage over rappers?" people need to stop deflecting the issue onto those who weren't even involved in the first place and quit acting like there was never any offense taken over a rapper's lyrics.

Imus made a mistake but this is freedom of speech people, a concept that you on the left claim to represent and cherish.

Did you join any of the protests or boycotts against him? When he gets a new job will you protest or boycott them as well?

If not, why do you consider him more worthy than Ludacris (who you have protested)?

2007-04-13 4:18:55 PM
Headso,

"Did I miss all the rappers who featured the most powerful politicians in America on their albums?"

No, you missed the rappers that the powerful politicians have to pay tribute to by using their services and giving them glowing reviews afterwards.

I like the ho on the team that said she was scarred for life by his words. If I had skin that thin, I'd have been cut to pieces now by Spic, Potato puller, and Dago jokes.

Alien Syndrome: Imus made a mistake but this is freedom of speech people, a concept that you on the left claim to represent and cherish.

Absolutely, and he continues to be free to speak wherever he chooses. And media outlets are free to pay him to speak. And they can also choose not to pay him.

There is no free speech issue here. At all.

Of course not. read the entire post. That's a screechy little screed.

Harpies of a feather, and all that? *s*

Alien Syndrome: Imus made a mistake but this is freedom of speech people, a concept that you on the left claim to represent and cherish.

*Bangs head on desk*

This is not a freedom of speech issue. The government didn't punish Imus for what he said, his employer(s) did. That's what "Freedom of Speech" is - the *government* cannot punish you for your speech.

Your employer can do whatever the fark he wants, to claim that he can't would be a violation of *his* freedom of speech.

To test this theory, go in to work on Monday wearing a shirt that says "I hate Black People." When they fire you, see how far exclaiming "Freedom of Speech!" will get you.

Speaker2Animals: Admit it: Obama got pwned.

If he had ever even said one word of praise or respect for Ludacris' lyrics, you *might* have a point.

The truth is that Obama met with Ludacris to ask him to write a rap about safe sex: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20061130/ai_n16910147

Odd that that was left out of the Hannity version of the story.

Headso,

"oh, I didn't realize that he was only compared to rappers after the obama quote came to light.."

I personally don't care that Obama met with the rappers and said good things. I don't care much about rap, and of the Dems, I'd vote for 'Bamma over the others anyway.

What I originally said is we've become a thin skinned bunch of pussies if we (as a society) have made such an issue out of this. You could have leveled San fran and it wouldn't have been covered because we had ourselves a little race "discussion" going on.

I'm glad I grew up in a time where my mom would tell me to suck it up when someone would call me a greaser or the like.

After further review, it turns out that four of the Fortune 500 companies have black CEOs. BunkoSquad regrets the error.

2007-04-13 4:32:08 PM
The only racist thing about this whole debacle is that Imus is under fire because he's WHITE. His comment was smack talk, that's it. Had a black guy said it, it would have been viewed for what it is.

"How many times to Jesse and Oprah have to tell you? Only white people can be racist!"

2007-04-13 4:32:19 PM
first off, why is a farking wall street journal piece linked as "some guy?" that's farking asinine, MODS.

second off, i think there's a good point to be made here. obama goes after imus for using negative language about black people and embraces ludacris without condemning his use of language. if the point is that white people can't say racist shiat that black people can (which is fine with me...i don't see an urban black comic getting away with jeff foxworthy's routine), then obama should say that when he calls for imus' white ass to be fired.

if not, it'd be great if obama met with someone like ludacris and afterwards said, "we talked about uplifting the black community and i pushed him to start with the words he uses in his lyrics" or something.

...it's possible to find common ground with people without losing your integrity is the point.

/it's also possible to get greenlit without sacrificing your integrity, subber

LOL. I love it when a link from WSJ or NRO gets greenlit under "Some Guy" and people start sniveling about someone sneaking a conservative headline into the queue.

I'd complain similarly when links from Media Matters, Huff Post, Daily Kos or a brazillion other liberal sources get greenlit, but I have better ways to spend 50 hours a week.

Seems to be the trend these days. WSJ, WND, Newsmax, LGF are all being linked as "some guy." If I was of a conspiratorial mindset I would think that it was intentional obfuscation.

The Homer Tax

The media can choose to fire him (which it does to any one it considers even remotely "un-pc"), I'm not arguing that. What I was referring to is the constant hate, whining and personal attacks towards Imus. Give the man a break and focus on something more newsworthy.
