(Sun Sentinel)   Now this is a piquant Chardonnay, with a bold, fruity nose and smooth aftertaste with strong notes of vanilla and sturgeon bladder... Wait, what?   (sun-sentinel.com) divider line

It helps to understand the world if you actually get out in it once in a while. Remember, this is the "not news" site, not the "it's news to me" site.

submitter here.

I make my own wine and beer at home. I know exactly what isinglass is, along with carageenen and other ingredients used even in homemade wines and beers.

I know that Belgian yeast smells more than a little bit like sewage but tastes wonderful when you ferment beer with it.

I know that you polish wine with things made of fish bladders, seashells and/or seaweed.

I know how to boil oak sawdust into tea so my wine tastes just like it was aged in a cask.

I know that hops look more than a little like pot and/or hash, depending on the variety. I know that putting whirlfloc in your wort creates large amounts of protein gunk that looks like the slime dripping out of mouths of the aliens in Alien. I know that Scottish malt is roasted over a peat moss fire, meaning it's got more than a little carbonaceous cowshiat in it.

All I can say in response is "Yum!"

But Fark wonderful as it is, does not have a tag that reads "Everyday things you've been doing or consuming for years without harm that some media guy just heard of it and wants some attention so he makes it sound scary and/or gross."

So I simplified it a little. Sue me.
