That's nothing more than doing your ethical and professional duty... another regular day at work. For us ER types, a week doesn't go by where we don't take care of some hateful, nasty, antisocial joker who'd punch us right in the nose if he/she weren't in restraints and/or badly outnumbered (some still take a swing, though they usually don't make that mistake twice).

Kudos, Ms. Osborne... well done.

-1 for masculine pronouns, subby. Landlord was a 77-year-old woman.

Okay, to everyone complaining.
At 77 she probably had a full on beard anyhow.

Move along folks.

The Grinch: -1 for masculine pronouns, subby. Landlord was a 77-year-old woman.

Yeah, but the brush with death made her a MAN!

Without details on why the landlord was suing her tenant, I find it hard to care. Not about her brush with death, that's sad and I'm glad she'll maybe/possibly she'll see 78, but about the article.

2007-03-15 6:44:11 PM
Too bad TFA doesn't say whether or not the subby's statement is true concerning the complaint. WTF? I wanted to rant about the 77-year-old [man].

What if the nurse was the party at fault?

What if the nurse was the tenant from hell?

What if the nurse caused the stress that led to the landlord's heart attack by, say, lying on the stand? Consider: "As I presented my case, she just started shaking and her eyes rolled back in her head."

Not saying that these things are necessarily true. Just saying that the landlady isn't necessarily a hateful, antisocial joker just because she had a legal dispute with the nurse.

Still, the nurse did the right thing by putting aside their differences for the moment, so kudos for that.

This is America.

All tenants are, by definition, innocent.

All landlords are, by definition, guilty.

You've got some pretty high standards, then. Wanna go into some detail as to how you came by them?

I agree. The CPR and the suit should have no bearing on each other whatsoever, but I'm curious, I'll admit.

Nakito

Maybe I wasn't clear on my point.

I'm not saying the nurse wasn't the tenant from hell... just making a point about taking care of people who persecute/hate you (whether they have a legitimate reason to or not).

It's not easy, but it is your obligation and professional duty. I'm just glad to see the nurse do the right thing and rise to the occasion.

Usually in court (ok, the two times I have been in) they start out with "so and so" the "does what for living" living at "place name" during the intro.

So everybody knew she was a nurse. So it's not like she could have just sat there and watched.

2007-03-15 10:09:59 PM
It's a good thing she lived - otherwise they would have put the nurse in jail saying that she assaulted her.

But still nothing on what the suit's about.

This hardly even addresses the most important question: why don't nurses wear stockings with their uniform anymore?

Most states have a Good Samaritan law, they wouldn't be able to say she assaulted the victim, although they might make a good case about negligence if the victim died. Most states don't give a lot of protection to people who are either trained or declare that they are trained.

Having a CPR cert and an EMT license in my backpocket is a dangerous thing.

Nurses are generally a bunch of insanely cool people. I trust them more than doctors in most cases. They do rock.

dwarfedshadow: Most states don't give a lot of protection to people who are either trained or declare that they are trained.

While anyone can be sued, in order to lose such a suit, you'd have to be proven to have been negligent in the care you provided. Following the "ABC's" of CPR should make it pretty hard to find you negligent, I'd think.
