Because Bill Maher hates, hates, when he says something controversial and people start talking about him.

2007-03-04 3:53:38 AM
True, but when you have people having the Secret Service show up at your door for sticking a knife in a cardboard cutout, then nothing is safe to say or do.

2007-03-04 3:57:09 AM
It's a good thing he didn't say that.

HowlingFrog: I think we should consult Conservapedia.

Fox News was started in 1996 in response to the other cable news channels which all had obvious liberal biases. Because of this, Rupert Murdoch decided to start a real new channel which would tell the truth. The success of Fox news over every other news channel is because it is fair and balanced. [1] It has many people on it who work to spread truth such as Sean Hannity who is a great American. [2]. Fox News is best because instead of just telling you what to think, they only report the news unbiased and then allow the viewer to decide. [3].

In 2005 the White House selected Tony Snow from Fox News to be the new White House press secretary which was a great honor for Fox because it showed how well it was presenting the real truth instead of the fake liberal version. [4]

Can we go for three greenlights on this subject? I'm guessing it won't be enough to stop at two.

2007-03-04 5:19:29 AM
In fact, not only is this the exact same subject as was greenlighted before, it's the exact same article!

Thats OK the VP has decided to make nice with Maher and extend a invite to a Dove hunting trip to an undisclosed location in South Texas.
On another note President Bush is organizing a hunting trip to his central Texas ranch.
Those invited so far are Pelosi , Murtha, and Al Gore.
He wants Al to see a Eco friendly home.
The President hunts a little different than the average Texan sticking with his Eco friendly lifestyle away from Washington.
The day starts with biscuits and grits then load up the gear [ spears ] on mountain bikes.
Once at the selected area game is spotted and hunters proceed to run it down and spear it to death.

One secret agent guard to the president was quoted as saying " I Gotta See This ".

CHAZZZ Fox News was started in 1996 in response to the other cable news channels which all had obvious liberal biases. Because of this, Rupert Murdoch decided to start a real new channel which would tell the truth.

Fox News disagrees with that, since they went to court to prove they can falsify the news without any legal repercussions.

Wake up, HBO: one of your hosts said the world would be a safer place if the Vice President of the United States of America had been assassinated.

Bill is a douche nozzel no doubt but he's right about this administration 90% of the time and, frankly on target about this.

2007-03-04 9:04:19 AM
This subby, like the other subby, apparently didn't RTFA. Maher was defending peoples right to say that Cheney should have been killed, all he said himself was that its a fact that the world would be a safer place with Cheney gone, which is true.

2007-03-04 9:05:51 AM
With the VP gone Bush could appoint a VP named JEB to take his place!
What would the lib's say about that!

OK: I now have my flack jacket on.

2007-03-04 9:06:45 AM
TeddyBallGame: Bill is a douche nozzel no doubt but he's right about this administration 90% of the time and, frankly on target about this.

Bill's not the only douch nozzle parroting this BS. I don't like the Bush Administration, but that's just completely farking uncalled for. It doesn't make you clever, or insightful, or profound to advance that, just a run-of-the-mill sociopath.

2007-03-04 9:15:05 AM
I fail to see what the death of the VP would accomplish. Bush wouldn't change his policy towards Iraq for a simple assassination, and I think he'd probably only redouble his efforts to reinforce the troop numbers currently serving in Iraq as a response.

2007-03-04 9:25:18 AM
That's is, attack a defender of free speech.

Read the article.

Watch the video.

Eisenhower was right about the VP. Hint: (M/I Complex)

2007-03-04 9:49:43 AM
God I hate this but, Bill Maher has every right to say what he wants. Arianna Huffington also has the right to remove posts from her blog. Both are examples of free speech. That being said though Bill Maher stating that the world would be better if Cheney had been killed proves how out of touch he is with the United States. Cheneys death would have galvanized the people of this country in a way that would rank up there with 9/11. Maybe then Bush would have the cojones to propsecute this war with out prejudice. So I guess my watching of Bill Maher is over because I used to think he was funny but he has chosen to align him self with the blame america first group. And I defended him for his post 9/11 comments. He was right then and is wrong now.

TFA: In 2002, ABC made the decision to not renew Bill Maher's contract after he made some disgraceful comments on his program "Politically Incorrect" concerning America's military response to 9/11.

What were Maher's "disgraceful" comments about the military in 2002? All I remember is his saying in 2001 that the 9/11 terrorists weren't cowards, which I agreed with even though you aren't supposed to say that in a post-9/11 world.

Fox News went to court to argue that the government does not get to decide what is the official truth that is allowed to be reported as news.

Will Explode : As much as I believe in my heart that most of our elected officials have our security as well as their own and their family's as a priority as well they should.
But!
That said looking at the examples of Vietnam and our current endeavor it looks suspiciously like along with our new found definition of PC warfare where we spend billions of dollars and loose many people needlessly and cause this spending and dieing to go on for many years longer than necessary it really does look like a cash cow to the MIC.
I know the answer but since 1978 it's not legal nor a popular answer.
We can thank the Japanese for the modern suicide bomber which has upped the use of terror as a tool of war.

2007-03-04 10:05:19 AM
See the constitution is and should be immutable. Freedom should be the default position of this country. But every day the government tries to chip away bit by bit at our freedoms. Look at the scientist, mostly government supported, who complain when ever someon does a story/study that triess to debunk global warming. A free press means that it does not report to the government on anything less than treason. That is why Mr. Maher has every right to say what he said and, honestly, duty if he so believes it true. I also have the right to call and complain to H. B. O. if I feel he has stepped over the line. Trust me the people given the right access to information can and will figure out whats best.

submitter: Bill Maher is sorry the assassination attempt on Cheney failed, but not as sorry as he will be for having said on TV that he's sorry the assassination attempt on Cheney failed

Why worry? Considering how many right-wing morons seem to think that shooting anyone who disagrees with the war and glorious leader is a good idea: Why should I care?

Pah, political discourse died in the mid 70's.

He never said it. The right wing garbage gets more tired every time it hits the fan. Their consistency is really admirable. If not a complete and total lie, any accusation will turn out to be based on implication instead of the actual words or facts. False outrage is all they've got left because they are now working with 100% hot air.

2007-03-04 10:57:07 AM
hey jules_siegel, did you hear that Bush said that the constitution is a goddamned piece of paper? A lot of people believe that too. What do you think of that?

Would you consider that "left wing garbage?"

When conservatives every single day say they wish liberals would die... nothing is ever said.

But a moderate (Maher is a libertarian, not a democrat and its obvious if you actually watched his show), who quotes someone else, vaguely implying that if someone was dead (or never having been elected in the first place) the world would be a better place... everyone goes crazy.

Stop posting repeats of this silly thing.

/Sigh.

One other thing. Can we impose two rules if you a) Don't read the article but continue to comment about it you are banned or b) you read it and clearly don't understand what was said, yet continue to comment you are banned.

It will save anyone who has the intelligence to communicate so much trouble. Thanks a bunch.

classicliberal: the blame america first group

That very accurately describes the B-B-BUT WACO and B-B-BUT KOSOVO group of right wingers who BLAMED AMERICA FIRST all throughout both of those cases. And of course don't forget oldies but goodies like "It's America's fault for bombing an aspirin factory" and "sending cruise missiles is just wagging the dog!"

the_gospel_of_thomas: Ann Coulter: "We should bomb their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity."

I just think that she was an idiot for giving aid to the enemy by making that remark. It has to be all over their recruiting material.

I'm not a natural leader. I'm too intellectual; I'm too abstract; I think too much.

Newt Gingrich

"If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological
problems staying in a ditch for thirty days because they
get infections and they don't have upper body strength. I
mean, some do, but they're relatively rare. On the other hand,
men are basically little piglets, you drop them in the ditch,
they roll around in it, doesn't matter, you know. These things
are very real. On the other hand, if combat means being on an
Aegis-class cruiser managing the computer controls for twelve
ships and their rockets, a female may be again dramatically
better than a male who gets very, very frustrated sitting in
a chair all the time because males are biologically driven to
go out and hunt giraffes."

Sorry, i was bored with teh Cheney thread yesterday.
