submitter: then ends the program after issuing limited number of stickers

I'm not aware of that aspect of it ever having been a secret.

Guy raises some interesting points, but it's mostly an academic exercise. On which level he gets a bit frightening towards the end with his wet dreams of Hummers buying their way into the carpool lane. It's handy, I suppose, to get a feeling for how sickos will pervert ideas meant for the public good.

I have to drive with hybrids every day. And I'd like to propose we change the international symbol for a slow moving vehicle from a red triangle to the silhouette of a Prius.

HOV lanes are bad enough. Hybrids doing 50mph in them at rush hour make them an even worse idea.

Don't hybrids work better in stop and go traffic?

2007-02-19 3:59:39 PM
I get tailgated by Priuses all the time. Little farkers don't understand that that defeats the purpose of the vehicle.

No it doesn't. It's called "drafting."

Simple solution, tax and penalize those who use cars which pollute more. Use that money to expand roadways.

Rather than reward. Just penalize those who don't give a shiat about the environment and their neighbors. If you're willing to pay more to be a Jackass in public no one can argue with that. You'll have paid your dues.

Below this post is where people who are too lazy to carpool will complain about how we should dismantle all HOV lanes so people too lazy to carpool can get to work 3 minutes faster.

Good. I live in LA - HOV lanes help traffic more by getting multiple cars off the road. I don't care how good your mpg is, if you're one person in one car, get out of the carpool lane.

lets just ban cars and plastics and be done with it.

Glass Parking Lot. Get rid of snobby elitist Californians and all of Hollywood.

ArkAngel:

I'll give you southern California for nukeage, but San Francisco on up is nice :-)

Back on topic, the 'limit' must have been pretty high, as EVERY Prius I've seen on the road has the stickers.

Yep EVERYTHING. Lets see them live with out the blessing of the Oil and Gas industry. Lets see those winy Hollywood'ers cope with boiled surgical equipment for their next cosmetic surgery because they are no longer rapped in plastic. Let's make them use only biodegradable and reused material to build their sets! Make them take the boat or a train instead of their private planes. Don't you dare ask me to do without my cloths dryer while you have an army of limos take you to the Oscars. Fark you..

Why would we want to destroy the world's 5th largest economy?

It's called gas tax.

I have an idea, how about the farkin' vampire-esque government of this farkin' state use the (stolen) tax money designated for building and improving roads and other transportation infrastructure for the designated purposes.

Wouldn't it be more environmentally beneficial to get the least efficient cars off the road as quickly as possible and let the hybrids sit in traffic burning gas?

Because we all know that Oklahoma is truly the breadbasket of the United States... ;)

I'd rather see the Oil and Gas industry get gutted and learn how to do business with some humility for once.

People were enticed to buy hybrids because gas prices were costing them an arm and a leg, not because they got to use the HOV lanes. It wasn't a secret that there were limitations on how many stickers were available.

The author begins with a false premise and gradually spirals into batshait crazy.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a hybrid in Nor Cal that doesn't have a sticker. Except for Ford Escape hybrids, since they don't meet the minimum mpg requirements.

I call shenanigans on the whole "limited number" thing

Fart_MachinePeople were enticed to buy hybrids because gas prices were costing them an arm and a leg, not because they got to use the HOV lanes.

If this is true then these people are even more stupid than I thought. Do the math on it and nearly every one of these douchebag hybrid snobs are going to run at a net loss for the next 10 years. At that point they MIGHT break even on their sweet investment.

Taurabora: And watch the world economy collapse in a heartbeat.

Punishing the oil companies would be a long-awaited public comeuppance of the greediest corporate attitudes on earth. They would be forced to sell their product at slightly above market value to profit, but the days of the pie-in-the-sky-no-limit would finally come to a close. No more 500 million dollar golden parachutes, no more private islands, fleets of yachts, skyscrapers...the oil industry would be forced to operate modestly because of their hundred year abuse of the environment and their fellow human beings they ripped off to build their empires.

And each punitive measure would be written as to ensure no effect on supply.

It's time to give back, starting with the elimination of subsidies and tax breaks.

Depends if they bought one when the prices were inflated. But seriously, does anyone buy a car for an "investment"? Lighten up Francis.

Just popped into the thread to make sure the the expected amount of knee-jerk California bashing was happening.

Carry on.

I'm glad they limited the number of stickers.... the demand for stickers was much greater than supply.... its a definite start in the trend towards more fuel efficient cars. you don't want to clog the carpool lanes with retard solo drivers that don't obey the unwritten code of the fast lane.
